now ma' friends, prepare for. . . THE M2 GARAND!!!!
Wow! I actually had an M2 and the liner too and didn’t know it until now. My Dad have it to me in 1973, along with a bunch of other military gear and I played Army all day long. I had to give it away when we moved away the next year, but I remember those features. What a shame.

I've never heard of an M2 Helmet. I have heard of an M1-C
@WorldWarWisdom
Жыл бұрын
They were similar, but the M1-C wasn’t issued until January of 1945.
However, the m2 was only issued to paratroopers, so it was less common.
And then there was the M1C which replaced the welded-on bales with hinged versions which were less likely to break and snap off than the fixed versions.
Helmet, Steel, M1 U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30, M1 U.S. Carbine, Caliber .30, M1 M1 Bayonet ik there's a ton of other "M1" designated things I just can't remember them all.

Yeah early war paratroopers had a hard time as, when they jumped out, all the equipment (which was all loaded up on them, including supplies and the rifle) was ripped off from the shock of hitting the air and the chute deploying. They then hit the ground in pretty much their base uniform and had nothing more than a knife if they were lucky. Sometimes they'd land near others or by the equipment or a ways away from enemies, so they had some kind of advantage, but yeah. They then started to reinforce their jump gear and the mentality behind the M2 eventually spread to the rest of the uniform. Early 82nd airborne to late war 82nd airborne is quite different and drastically improved.

The funny part is I have heard about the m1 but never heard about the m2 😂

Do the M3, M4, and M5 used by the USAAF as flak helmets
Now that you've heard of the M2 there is yet another improved M1 helmet for use with Bomber crews.
Me with my 1950s M1 steel pot and fox repro inner.
The chin strap is why it made it way better, it's way more sturdy & why the design is what it is now
You need an American Model 8. It's a WW1 helmet but it's one of the coolest helmets ever used by the US.

I went through Airborne School in 1986 with the Steel Pot with the 1950s or Post WWII design without the leather chin cup. Used all the way through Vietnam till I think 1986. Some of my guys who went through Airborne School had the PASGT with the modifications for a Paratrooper helmet which was nothing more than a crash pad at the back of the helmet bolted on with a Velcro strap that goes just above the chin strap. Paratroopers always had a special helmet liner with straps made for jumping with the general issue M1 steel helmet, all modified and simplified after WWII.

Is the rim seam on the front or back? Are the bales welded to the shell or are they on swivels? If it’s early war 1940 to ~1943 helmets had fixed bales then from 1943 onward they were swivel bales in late 1945 the rim seam was moved to the front its mostly considered a post war helmet and no one is sure any were ever issued to any theater.

i prefer my stahlhelm tho
I saw a Tele - movie a few years ago when the spy being dropped into France by parachute was wearing a standard British Brodie helmet. The makers of the show were extremely lazy with their research and any half witted military historian would know that this type of helmet would be blown off as soon as you hit the slipstream. Oddly enough no one wrote in and corrected them on this.
If he would say just M1, he would mean 2/3 of the us army
I just learned the helmet I was gifted by my grandfather is an M2 helmet that has been missing the chin cup.
wow mario enemy's were in ww2
But did they stop soldies necks from breaking? I assume you've watched the video "Why American soldiers didn't strap their helmets in World War 2" In the video it explains that the design of the M1 would catch the force of an explosion and snap the wearers neck as a result, if they were close enough to the blast obviously.
I prefer the stahlhelm
I'm sure the boys in the 101 loved these
American and German helmets were better than bowel shaped British helmets for shrapnel protection.
