Regarding that Talon; My buddy had the same thing happen to his and it ended up being this gigantic saga of trying to get it repaired. The techs had to call out some special Honda guys to trouble shoot it and eventually, after months, figured out it was some kind of manufacturing defect in the Mid Plate. Basically, the transmission isn't getting enough oil pressure to work right. Also, it's a big repair, requiring the engine to get pulled. Upvote this so the Talon owner sees it, because otherwise, it's going to be a long and frustrating road to get that thing fixed.

The synchro 4x4 Vanagons are pretty capable. Had a neighbor that was obsessed with them. He had one that was lifted with big off road tires and a pop top. Kind of scary with how top heavy it was, but it could go most places without issues.

VW Syncro - Great for getting stuck in places most cars can’t get to. 😂 But this vanagon is not a Syncro, a it’s a camper, which means a lot heavier, and he still made it to someplace he shouldna been. 😊

We had those in South Africa and they were called VW Microbus. They were immensely popular and initially they had air cooled boxer (flat 4) motors and much later on it came with water cooled motors. They were eventually used for what we call minibus taxis where they cram as many people as they can into them and they were eventually outlawed for that purpose because of the horrific accidents they got involved in.

We've seen all these videos but just imagine if you're a customer who's never seen any of Matt's videos ( yes these people exist) with your $20k vehicle and a little kid not even remotely near drivers license age jumps in and expertly drives your vehicle. I hope some time they'll record those customers reactions.

There's this time I was riding my bike at some road and I approached this railway crossing. There was a Toyota Corolla that had stopped in front so I decided to just overtake since there was no train crossing at the time. When I took a glance at the driver I was awed,a small boy probably at an age of eight to ten years old was behind the wheel. An elderly man probably his father was sat at the passenger seat and a woman and some girls were sat in the rear seat (wondering how I was able to see all that at a glance). The point is this, teach your kids to do what you do. Be their first driving/riding instructor.

The Vanagon is also known as the Westfalia for the most part, I believe the majority of them sold in the USA were Westies. There is even a super rare one out there known as a Syncro, it had a fantastic 4WD system in it, probably the same as what was used in the VW Iltis which was a military vehicle, we even made licensed Iltis's here in Canada at a Bombardier plant for the Canadian Armed Forces. The Iltis was dubbed the Europa Jeep for what it's worth.

What Rhett doesn't know is that power steering has a different ratio and smaller steering wheel so you have less leverage. That's why it is so hard to steer power steering with no power. Same thing with power brakes.

Observation & suggestion. It seems most vehicles have recovery points on the left or right sides in the front and some rear also and when connected to the towing vehicle in the center while pulling it tends to pull the towed vehicle to the side and they try to steer to compensate and it all goes bad especially if the road drops off on the side. My suggestion, add tow points to both sides of the tow vehicle like maybe adding hitch receivers so you could move the pintal hook where needed. I don't know what do you think Matt.

I am guessing the sone of the judges will be at key areas along the trail to judge particular segments. More judges means more segments can be judged instead of shuttling judges ahead to the next event. Their vehicles would have to arrive before the wreckers which may slow things down and drag the whole event out.

If the diesel, it's a waterboxer. Only available in the US for 2 years, '82/83, according to Wikipedia if I read that right. By 83, the US models were water cooled. I knew this was an earlier version as it has the older round sealed beam headlights. Very early vans were air cooled, some with carbs, some with FI.

  • @christopherbrown6697

The gasoline engines from 1983.5 up are water boxers, the diesels are inline, same engine as FWD VW cars at the time, mounted at a 50 degree angle with a funky angled oil pan. Every US market VW van from 1975 and up was fuel injected due to emissions requirements. Carburetors continued in other international markets. Last year for OE round headlights in the US was 1985, but those, like diesel engines and other things, remained available in other countries.
