"You shouldn't love that bike so much..." - A celebration of a 1972 Moto Guzzi Eldorado

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Over the years my 1972 Moto Guzzi Eldorado has won a special place in my heart. She's my bike of choice for long journeys to the middle of nowhere. She puts a smile on my face even when (or perhaps especially) when there's no one there to see. Video clips from Labrador, Newfoundland, eastern Ontario, Northern Ontario and northern Quebec.

Nice video. Takes me back to my 73 Black and chrome with Wixom fairing and bags. Rode it from Ohio to Florida for spring break in 76. One of my 62 bikes I have owned.

MOTO GUZZI V7 700, AMBASSADOR, V7 SPECIAL and V7 850 GT: the best cruisers ever !!! I had one of these jewels many years ago, when I was 19 year old; during my voyages in EUROPE, on the night usually I slept laied along on my Moto Guzzi V7 850 GT; my head on a pillow on dashboard, my ass on the seat and and my feet on the rack; no other bike is so fantastic; I slept in service stations along the highways only, of course, sometimes with policemen in those places .... Now I have a MOTO GUZZI CALIFORNIA 1100 SPECIAL SPORT tuned by Hepco & Becker directly in Germany, .... the most beautyful bike I ever seen, but it is not the same ... this bike had a central stand, of course, cromed by tuner ... amazing

Hey Nick, love the videos. This one brought me back in the first 30 seconds. My first bike was a 1971 Honda CB 350. Brand new, I think it cost me $1200. My uncle had a Moto Guzzi, I don't remember the model, but he let me ride it. Big deal for a girl back then. It was fun but too tall for me and I had a little trouble keeping it upright at a stop. So I just kept going haha. I actually had my motorcycle license before my car license, at age 17. Rode a few old Harleys back then that had the opposite shifting pattern, 1 up and 3 down. In my 20s I rode the Alaska Highway on a bicycle. Now in my 60s my ride is a V-star 950. Nice touring bike on the paved roads. You got me thinking I'd like to do some more rugged stuff again this summer. And maybe a different bike. Thanks.

Alternator kit - worth the effort and expense (and lighter than the massively heavy generator).

I am guilty, too. I love my '71 Ambassador: updated with a '72 Eldorado VP 850 engine (Verzione Policia). I am not as brave as you, though. We only head out on sunny and dry weather. The only water it sees is at the end of a warm soapy sponge and the only dirt it sees is the dust that settles on it in the garage. You have a gorgeous machine.

Great video, Nick. Yes, you and the bike do go well together. My 81 year old dad still rides his 73-1/2 Eldorado and, about three years ago, I bought a '74 disc brake Eldo to ride with him. It's currently being brought back to original condition. Oh yes, and my oldest brother has two 73's and a '74 Eldorado, all of them in various states of restoration. They are wonderful bikes.

Dan - It was a great pleasure to meet you at Lavigne. Too bad I didn't have longer to stay and chat. That was a monumental trip you took. I hope the return journey was as trouble free and enjoyable as the trip up. They really are great bikes - mine is still going strong - I hope yours is too. Nick

Will do - although it might be a while - I don't think I've dropped the pan yet! I use Dunlop K70's. I find they are good on the road and surprisingly good on gravel + I like the way they look.

Great videos once again. I chatted with you before on your oil filter - just forgot to ask if next time you remove the oil pan, could you please snap a photo of the work the prior owner did? I bet they tapped into the crossover. Also what tires do you run? Thx!

Tell me , is there a cure for Looping Moto Guzzitis ?🤒 I've just caught the fourth variant, Eldo' 74 winter restoricon . I caught it whilst travelling 14 hours from home . Apparently the vaccine 😷doesn't work for Italian V twins . I will just have to endure it and hope to feel better in the spring . I hold you responsible of course .🤣 [ It could be worse though , at least I haven't got Panthermania thumperitis ] 🐱

Hi Nick , a question if you don't mind . Do you have the original chrome bores in your bike ? I have pulled the heads off my bike and she still has [ what I believe ] [ non magnetic ] chrome bores . They are in good condition though , just wondering if I should run her like this . I shall have to be careful if I travel east if there is a Panther that has been set free .

Mine had already been replaced with 950cc iron lined cylinders when i got it. I replaced them with nikisil 850 cylinders at about 100,000 miles. Look for Gilardoni stamped into the base of the cylinders. Yours might already have been done. If not, its a wise move and the cost will be recovered at resale. I wouldn't even look at a bike which still was running chrome.
