If i didn't click on the video to find out more, i would've assumed the creator to have been one of the biggest idiots on earth. As in: OF COURSE you should replace your timing belt, it's part of regular maintenace as well! But yes, a lot of times you should replace other necessary parts along with it, such as the water pump, idler pulleys tensioner ect. I replaced my chain, guides, exhaust cam gear and the tensioner. I didn't do the water pump, because it's separate from the engine timing, so i will proooobably do it while i replace the coolant and the thermostat. Y'know, to ensure an optimally operating cooling system.

I just finished a 06 rx330 timing job and I can say Toyota added extra steps like having to remove the timing gears and rear cover to take out the water pump vs Honda less brackets and less specialty tools needed very simple... I did a Chevy 1.8 timing belt last week needed to lock the crank and cams in 3 different spots ... All same install and removal procedures jus different ways you interact with the cams

Don't buy aftermarket parts, buy a factory timing belt for best results and longevity.🙄

Changing the belt is a massive job costing 3 or more hours of labour for what are cheap parts. My latest car has a chain and some new cars have shaft drive. Rubber bands are a bad idea.

You forgot the most crucial thing you have to put the engine in TDC (top dead center) before taking the timing belt offafter marking it

@@leightonlawrence8832 TDC would be cylinder #1 every engine is different so find info on said engine. The reason you want it on TDC is to see where the cylinder is and to line up the timing marks without doing that your gonna mess the engine up

EXACTLY! He just skipped over that part with a "Make sure you have the timing marks lined up." Seems irresponsible, b/c unless you already KNOW about TDS, you may assume its just general advice and ignore it.

I replaced the timing belt, the tensioner pully, and the idler pulley, belt wasn't tight enough so I turned the motor over with the starter to get it to center. The job took me 9 fucking hours, I ain't got 4 days to take the entire engine apart to change all the related components and reset timing. Car's been running fine.
