Bit of a long one here, but worth the upload for the utter tripe he spouted about how much room he gave me. The UK government doesn't agree with you, Mr MV12MZF, as it teaches cyclists to ride in the middle of the lane on narrow lanes like this. That's why when we overtake horses, we always do so very slowly (engine noise) and wide (horses don't like it they can't see behind them, we always get a thank you from the rider. Dan Clark Rubbish. I'm just asking to ride to and from work safely and without the minority of bad drivers risking my life or intentionally trying to teach me a lesson by close passing me. Many thousands of cyclists run video cameras to help drivers behave like grownups on the road, not like this driver. See my consequences and convictions playlist for examples of some of the many drivers who've been convicted and/or sacked from their jobs for misbehaving around cyclists.
They always seem to make such a big deal out of having their "perfect" driving shown on video. I wonder why?
I was waiting for the VED comment from the driver but his argument if he used it would have been shot down in pieces as he doesn't pay it either, the car's a hybrid.
The guy PARKS in a BUS STOP then says his driving is perfect. LOL!
As a cyclist and a car driver i really appreciate considerate drivers and try to thank them when possible. We all share the roads and no one has special rights so a bit of courtesy goes a long way.
@CyclingMikey

There are many considerate drivers and cyclists. The driver in this video was an unpleasant arse of a bad driver, at least when he passed me.
am i the only one who's seeing that as the video goes on, the cyclist gets closer and closer to the middle of the lane?
@CyclingMikey
9 жыл бұрын
LurkingFinger Indeed, from just past the petrol station I do take the lane because it becomes too narrow to share. Before that, it's wide enough for me to ride safely to the left. After that, taking the lane is correct cycling. You do realise that's good cycling, yes? www.motoring.co.uk/car-news/cyclists-why-do-they-ride-in-the-middle-of-the-road-_62617
Now that was very bad cycling! By cycling in the middle of a wide carrageway you are forcing other road users to overtake you on the other side of the road putting themselves & oncoming traffic in serious danger when there should be no need to as you should be riding to the left. This man in the video should've gone to the police to report your insane antics on the road. You need to be stopped & educated on road safety before you cause a serious accident.

Yea omg he was forcing cars to overtake him properly while endangering oncoming traffic (wtf did I just read? I wonder how many people on here siding with the cyclist actually agrees with his demand that traffic should overtake him not just with a wide enough berth but in the other lane? It's an over-the-top and often impossible demand on many busy streets. I always take great care when passing cyclists as I am one and my father is one and I've witnessed abuse of cyclists by car users, but there's no way I'd give an entire lane of space when overtaking, it's simply unnecessary and often actually impossible. Personally when I am on my bike I am happy when I am given about a yard of space.
@CyclingMikey
9 жыл бұрын
3 feet is OK if the speed is low. Here, in this narrow lane, it's not acceptable to share the lane with a cyclist. You won't be able to pass me with 3 feet and still be in the same lane as me, which is why you need to go in the other lane. Moreover, with the speed at which this driver passed me, he should be doubling that to at least 6 feet of space. The lane is only about 3m wide, or 10 feet. And you don't have to agree with me, but then you'll be disagreeing with the highway code and with normal driving practises. You'd fail your driving test passing like this driver did.
"He's been driving for nearly 60 years", yet he hasn't learnt how to overtake safely to a cyclist. What a thicko.

Hi, As much as I find you are I the right here, you deal with some (as this video shows) in a draconian way. I was hit by a car totally in the wrong last week and sent for flying lessons if you catch my drift... - I dealt with it much more efficiently and with a better strategy. My complaint with you isn't with you being in the right/wrong it is also as a cyclist. You need to learn how to be a diplomatic person, I'm sorry to say as a cyclist you are giving us a bit if a bad rep here - from the angle of your 'diplomacy'. Please learn for many of our sakes how to deal with this, you'll only rile up this guy and drivers who don't understand the dangers to think badly of the next cyclist he comes across-who may not be as proficient as you. Can you understand where I am coming from? I believe your wording (I see your pattern on a few videos) leads to deliberate inflammatory in arguments, aside from you being in the right... Hope you understand the tact, you are responsible from that aspect as a (fine finessed I'm sure) human being. Also I find the statement about £500 bikes a bit sad. It's what you make out of cycling, and I would rather see all levels of people riding on bikes they can afford (I'm a canyon man so have spent more than that - doesn't make me better than anyone else), albeit I understand it was because this gentleman was condescending... If you could upload a few videos maybe where you deal with the issue of bad drivers in a more humbling way I would be interested to see them as an experiment. And please bear I mind despite drawing attention to a minor fault (obviously the bad driving is what is at focus on your videos) I still enjoy your uploads. We are family on the roads, be safe!

captquest1 Sure, but if I did nothing about drivers like the above, they'd carry on with that sort of driving. By videoing them and reporting them to the police, they have a good chance of changing their behaviour. There are many drivers I have had repeat encounters with, and the vast majority drive to a considerably higher standard after that warning. Moreover, in the camera community, which is rather large now, most have the opinion I generally upload only the more serious stuff that's worth reporting.

Thousands of cyclists run video cameras precisely because of bad driving like that shown here, and because of the appalling attitudes of the minority of people behind this sort of thing. A bit like Ali's, really. The more people that have cameras the happier I am. That's because this is a powerful education tool. This driver will have been told how to find the video in the police warning he got. Now he knows that road pirate behaviour is not as anonymous as he thought, and that his driving will be seen and found by others. His number plate is now searchable. Most repeat customers drive like an examiner is sat next to them when they pass me after such a video and a warning. Good driving like that is all we want. It's not hard.

Looking back, it's pertinent to note that the drivers involved were all types, as were the vehicles. 2 of them were actually women, 1 a police officer who knocked me into a whole row of parked cars in her impatience to join the end of the traffic jam in front. Overtake dangerously like this driver, and you'll get yourself a police warning like he did. Drive like this driver did, and you'd fail your driving test. Driving well, and I'm a driver myself, is really simple. The reality is your expectations for passing cyclists are skewed, and your impatience and sense of entitlement are both overly large.

Don't bother stopping for a chat.... just film and report. You know what they say about wrestling with a pig (you just get dirty -- and the pig enjoys it)
But Mikey, he's got a RACING bike!

Which I very much doubt he could ride for more than an hour at a time, and Mikey would be past him before the end of that hour (having just got nicely warmed up), even if he was given a 20 minute head start!
Oh and the wearing of a baseball cap ,esp. in the UK,aka the IQ reducer ,is normally the telltale of the type of person to expect.

Oops, I'm a big time baseball cap wearer. I'd like to think I'm fairly smart, but maybe you're right. :)
This video is 7 years old , didn't think you uploaded videos that far back Mikey
Is your camera a GoPro Mikey? All this happens to me as well when i cycle to work
What's the average speed you get out of the trike? Just curious :)

Cycle Surge It's a bike rather than a trike, and my fittest and fastest year saw a year round moving average of 15.7mph. I was pretty happy with that!
He's been driving like that for 70 years? AND HE'S STILL ALIVE??? He's such a bellend.
Sunbeam I'm pissing myself.
You seem to be travelling uncharacteristically slowly here Mikey - what's in the back of your bike today? Are you transporting gravel :D

It's funny how pictures and video never do a hill justice. It's only a short one, but it's pretty steep. I can do 45mph coming the other way if that gives you an idea of it. Plus I was super tired this day. :)
what a sad individual this man is in too much of a rush to drive properly past a cyclist but has enough time to sit there and insult people
That is one small, funny looking bus...
Lol he's proud of his 500€ bike! I would advise you ride farther right, pretty much forces a complete lane change to pass.
If he thinks that's four feet then he shouldn't be driving. Awful driving....awful attitude. Well handled mikey
Well that driver is just Rubbish, Rubbish, Rubbish. :) :) :)
