Donnie is the man, when I first thought I wanted to race I went on a race platform and asked questions and Donnie took his time to fill me in and gave me some solid advice. I still watch his videos to learn more. Thanks Donnie…Mike R

Thanks Mike! I always enjoy helping people get into off road racing. Thanks for watching and commenting!
This is some high quality advice. I'm taking notes and trying to incorporate what I'm learning to help me on this long journey of becoming a better harescrambler. You could probably put together a presentation of your processes and training to sell remote coaching and rider management for other amateur riders. They could send you video footage and you respond with pointers and training recommendations. But don't stop with these invaluable videos, Donnie. I need them.

Thanks for watching! I'm planning to get some new vids out soon.
Great video. I've been doing a version of your training rides for years. I find it helps to run similar rpm from lap to lap, and I listen to engine rpm and note gear selection to help with keeping a pace going. Then I try to keep that pace and engine rpm. If it's wet, I may try to run a fast rpm 2nd gear pace, or it its dry, a slower rpm 3rd gear pace. Another thing I do is try to keep momentum thru turns if possible and try to be efficient with my turns. When I was working, I tried to ride every week and keep my fitness level fairly high. I still go for an hour at a time, rest and rehydrate between laps, and do a second 1 hr lap. L8tr, Ron
100% agreed. I love both types of riding both with friends and alone, but I get far more out of solo rides because I can just grind.

Thanks for watching Randy. Yeah I’ve found that non stop rides help prep more than almost anything else.

Great video. The lap analysis with video is the same concept I would use when road racing. Definitely was a benefit able to see which lap I was on the brakes to late or not on the gas early enough sacrificing precious seconds. Pretty cool to see someone using the idea on the dirt bike side.

Yeah, it’s a huge benefit for sure. Thanks for watching!
Great video! I'm 55 and wondering how to build up endurance for a full hare scramble. 30 minutes at a time on the stairclimber ain't cutting it! I like this "race training ride" idea, thanks for sharing!

It will help you for sure. Try it out!
Definitely need to incorporate this into my routine. Picked up CrossFit to simulate the intensity of racing and it is decently similar for heart rate depending on how hard you wanna push yourself

Yeah, CrossFit is a great workout.
Loved this side by side comparison. That is a smart way to compare after a ride/race I have never thought of doing that. Corner speed is definitely something I noticed when I started racing again. These guys are just so much faster through corners and carry momentum better through all obstacles.
@DirtBikingwithDonnie

Exactly, going fast is almost entirely about the turns, braking and how you carry momentum through turns and obstacles. Keeping it clean for 2 hours is the hard part, lol.

@@DirtBikingwithDonnie Corner speed is the key, but you have to be in shape to handle that. I had no idea, Blueberry Hill was that ruff. The stabilization on these cameras are a bit deceiving.

@@Dougdirtbikingvideoes Yeah, it’s really rough in places, they’ve had a lot of races there but I still love it there.
Hi Donnie I use an app called Strava, it was created for bicycling and uses your GPS to track a ride. Then I created a segment for my training ride. The segment is 1 lap and I compare times using that. It works decently.

This video is definitely one of the lightbulb moments where I said to myself “duh”. Start training harder for the races. Thanks for the content. Let’s ride together some day. Clarksville, TN

Thanks for watching! Let’s do that.
This is my method as well. My race time varies. I try to do an hour to an hour and a half. How are you getting your lap times? With the action cam? I have my watch but its not convenient to stop and log times. Thanks for the video. Edited to add: Sometimes if I cannot moto, for whatever reason, I will hit the trail with my mountain bike.

Yeah, mountain bike is a great option. I’m using the video to calculate lap times.

@@DirtBikingwithDonnie I thought you might be doing that. I guess I need to get my cam out for the practice rides. That's a great idea that I didn't think about. I have a 2-7 mile loop depending on how much it has rained and if its deer season or not.
Absolutely.. Do sprints also.. Go out cold and let it rip 100% for as long as you can.

Great point, because that’s the way Harescrambles start.
I hope someone can help me out. I am 56, and been a long long long time since riding a dirt bike. I bought a Kawasaki KLX 300r a few months ago. I ride a lot over at Dodge City. I am planning to race a few SECCA events next year. I do consider myself a beginner rider. What class should I ride in? 55+ or Beginner class? Thank You for helping me out.
@DirtBikingwithDonnie

C55 is the class I would recommend. I wouldn’t recommend beginner class for your situation. I also wouldn’t recommend 55+ (different than C55). 55+ is a relatively high skill level class that starts on the front row of the AM race.

Do you sit for most of the lap? Hard to tell in the video.

It’s probably half and half on this course. I’m definitely not always in the perfect form. I concentrate on conserving energy as much as possible.

Chasing someone faster than you can be very beneficial and that’s one of the benefits of group rides. I ride with A riders frequently and I’ve learned a lot from them.
Some great tips. I think you confuse me with someone who likes to think😂. I like to solo ride at times so I can push my endurance. Unlike you I dont really get into the racing part but I do like to push myself.

Remind me not to do a “race training ride” with you :-)
