Luigi's mansion 1 3ds remaster actually looks good when upscaled on an emulator that's what it would have looked like if it was on switch instead but with lower res textures.

The original game on 3DS has already outsold most Metroid games… so yes, you’re likely right. This is unfortunate, because the Prime remaster was exceptional, and only $40. I actually think this is the best looking Switch game… I was stunned.

They probably chose the $60 price tag because they know Luigi’s Mansion is popular enough that it’ll still sell well On the contrary Metroid games don’t historically sell as well so they made Remastered $40 so people have more of an incentive to buy This isn’t me agreeing with the price though…

I'm pretty sure they choose dark moon to port instead of the luigis mansion 1 remake since dark moon was never on a home console and dark moon came out around a decade ago when the luigis mansion 1 remake was one of the last games on the 3ds. Dark moon was also one of the best selling 3ds games when the luigis mansion 1 remake didnt sell good. Imo I still think they should have done it like pikmin 1 + 2 and ported them both together since its 60 bucks and dark moon hd looks pretty basic.

I think the problem is that you’re conflating “remake” and “remaster.” Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD isn’t a full-on remake… it’s a remaster. It’s based on the original game, but with slightly updated character models and textures. Comparing it to TTYD is a bit unfair because THAT game was a full-on remake. A better comparison would’ve been Metroid Prime Remastered. It definitely would’ve benefitted from a proper rebuild.

@@Demeech Oh I agree. But I still think Metroid Prime Remastered is a better comparison. Not only was this a remaster with far more *noticeable* visual improvements, but unlike Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, THAT game was priced at $40. TTYD’s remake, I think, justified its price tag a lot better due to it being a proper remake. Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD does not.

8:42 One of the reasons why they remastered it specifically on the 3DS was to fulfil a longtime desire of bringing stereoscopic 3D to the game - something they had planned for the original GameCube version, but never implemented it due to costs and technical challenges. Luigi's Mansion on the 3DS is one of the only final Nintendo-published 3DS games to have 3D functionality, as most other titles had already given up on the gimmick.

I, for one, am looking forward to getting it. My only problem is that it's $60 for what seems to be the same game with updated visuals, animations, and controls. Metroid Prime Remastered looked way better and cost $40, and it was also the same thing LM2 HD is. I'm at least hoping there's SOMETHING that justifies the price tag, given how secretive they're being with this game.

I sure hope so. As a HUGE fan of Luigi's Mansion 2, I'm hoping it's as good as it could be as a remaster. Though I do think it's main problems will be price and how it does look as good as Luigi's Mansion 3.

@@Demeech Me too. Honestly, I didn't expect it to have LM3 level visuals, but I think they could've pulled it off. However, what they did here definitely looks good. I think my only issue with the visuals is the lighting in some parts.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 is kind of like the “Mega Man 3”, the “Sonic the Hedgehog CD”, or the “Kirby’s Dream Land 2” of the Luigi’s Mansion games. The kind of games that tried to do something different and didn’t appeal as much to the fans as well as the other entries. They’re still very good games, but don’t quite hit the mark compared to the other ones in their franchises.

I'm going to try and not be negative about this release. I looked on the official Nintendo website and while it looks like there won't be any new content, there's something referred to as "other improvements." They've got to be hiding something. This remaster comes out in two weeks, we've still not gotten the American overview trailer. There's got to be more than meets the eye with this. It feels like Nintendo's being very secretive.

Look I’m tired of people roasting games when people loved them before, like why are you hating on them when they are the games you loved?

The Weirdest part about this game is it didn't even get more In-Depth trailers like Thousand-Year Door did? If this game did include the first original game/or the 3DS remake version we've got during the final days of the 3DS era Then the $59.99 would have been acceptable just like the Pikmin 1 + 2 remasters we've got. (Technically that collection was $49.99 but still) I will give the HD remaster a tiny bit of credit They did change the title screen rather than giving us a black blank background and some of the models do look really crisp and clean and high quality but I really wish there were some lighting and Shadow effects to the game just like how Metroid prime remaster and Thousand-Year Door did it. Other than that this was a really good in-depth video Demeech

It bothers me that Americans don't fight back against game prices, they're the frontline in this battle

The thing that strikes me as peculiar with this is how weirdly secretive Nintendo appears to be regarding this remaster, at least in the states. The lack of an English overview trailer. And then there's the "other improvements" Nintendo specifies on their website. What could that imply? New content? The multiplayer being expanded upon? There's rampant speculation that the first game will be revealed in the upcoming Direct. This feels like the game we know the least about. At least in terms of what is new.

This is so sad, this game is actually my favorite out of the trilogy, hot take I know. All I want for this port is Gooigi as a second player, and fully explorable mansions. That to me would justify the $60 price tag

Not a hot take, I think this game gets a lot of undeserved hate. I always knew that the game could never match the original because it was made by a completely different developer, Next Level Games, a western developer. The original was developed in-house by Nintendo. Completely different minds/cultures involved with making the game. It’s nice to see this game appreciated by some.

I think nintendo can get away with lazy remasters occasionally, expecially with higher quality remakes and remasters of other games, expecially with lm2 is still a good looking game. They cant get away with it if its $60, the heck is up with that. At least the pikmin remasters with $30 each, and you got a $10 discound buying them together. Its not that LM2 isnt a $60 game (ive 100 the original, and that took me 50 hours, youll get your moneys worth) but they should have more to really justify a purchase to someone who baught the original (its was one of the best selling 3ds game, so theres definitely a good amount of people who did buy the original) Its even more insulting considering miitopia is a 3ds game and was an impressive update.

Counterpoint: I get to play online again. but the 60 dollar price tag really should be lowered to 50-45 ish.

I feel like the reason we are only getting a remaster of Luigi's Mansion 2 is mainly because that version is made by Next Level Games meanwhile the company Grezzo made the 3ds version of Luigi's Mansion 1. Personally im just glad they are putting this game on Switch since I never grew up with a 3DS when I was younger. I really enjoyed playing it on friends systems... even considering buying a 3DS specifically for this game... but thankfully they are releasing it on the Switch! I do agree the game could look leauges better though, but personally I am satisfied!!

Honestly I don’t really think this will matter for the target demographic (me and others that hold nostalgia). I already 100% LM3 and would love to go back to 2 on the switch, I’ll probably find it cheaper on the 2nd market, the Luigi’s mansion games for me have never been about its graphical fidelity of it but the fact that it’s just a fun game.

I mean you keep making videos "You should be concerned about insert game here" but theyre all fine. The TTYD remake is excellent. Im sure this will be to. Its just lm2 remastered/ported over. What are you expecting. For that matter what were you expecting from TTYD? 30 fps is a downgrade but its so unnoticable the game is not a fast paced game so its fine. The graphical upgrade is fantastic. Just a bunch of clickbait titles lately from you. LM2 will be LM2. No more no less lol

Well, the difference is that at least the Paper Mario TTYD remake added some stuff in it. Not a whole lot mind you, but it did add stuff, like some new bosses. LM2 HD on the other hand, at least from what we've seen so far, doesn't seem to have any addition to it. Nothing. Nada de nada. And I strongly agree that, while admittedly the weakest of the trilogy, LM2 is still a good game. But if they're just gonna port the game to the Switch with nothing to make it stand out - and even having the audacity to charge full price for it to boot - then you might as well just play the original on 3DS

The only thing you're missing out on in the 3DS version is online Scarescraper (not sure whether or not you can still play locally).

Not saying they shouldnt have added something bc that's always nice. Just nothing im too concerned about. I want an HD version of this game and to be able to play it on the go with my Switch library. I do have the 3ds version as well but im not gonna pack two systems with me when i travel. Im excited to revivst it in HD. So concern is not the right word i guess was my point. I understand where you're coming from

We also can't forget that it's unfair for KZreadrs to judge the game before it's even out. There could possibly be new content that Nintendo isn't showing like what they did with the TTYD remake.

Having Luigi’s mansion 1 and 2 sold together I would have really enjoyed that

they propably made Metroid Prime $40 because Metroid doesn't sell as well compared to Mario or Zelda and since it was a unprecedented move, it made the game more appealing it could also been done to make Tears Of The Kingdom look less bad because it's the first $70 Nintendo game

While it is cool to see Luigi's Mansion 2 in HD, I'm personally waiting for F-Zero GX and Star Fox: Assault to come to the Switch via remasters. Why? Because those games matter more to me than any Mario game Nintendo could give fans. Smaller series should have a turn in the spotlight for once

They did a Luigi’s mansion remake on the 3rd because originally they wanted to make Luigi’s mansion 3d in the GameCube era but couldn’t so they wanted to finally do it on the 3ds

Now that you are planning to make a trash or treasure for a Mario RPG, I have a question about what happens to the Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope video that you promised. It has now been about 2 years since that game came out and you never made that video. Side note this is not meant to be angry. I was just really looking forward to that video because it's a game that I really enjoyed

This is basically like when Chrono Cross was remastered on the Switch and not Chrono Trigger first. And just like Chrono Cross, this game doesn't look like it'll get any better at all.

I have a feeling Nintendo will go over Luigi’s Mansion 2hd and reveal 1 is a part of LM2HD. Or maybe they’ll shadowdrop it, or maybe I’m high on copium as a LM1 fanboy, who knows?

To be completely honest, I feel like the only reason why this game was being made in the first place, was that they felt like they NEEDED a Luigi game coming out due to the movie hype. So, they took dark moon, put in hd textures, did some other minor tweaks, and called it a day. I would be okay with it, if it was a $30/40 game, but this for $60 is absolutely crazy

I regret buying a physical on 3ds, played for less than an hr then never again. sick of remakes in general also. thanks for the arcade shout out, that's why I like this channel, sticking up for things like the mario kart arcade series.

As much as I like Square Enix, I will say this- they are probably MOST guilty of taking a game, porting it over to another system, and calling it a "remaster". The amount of consoles Final Fantasy X/X-2 "Remastered" has been released on over the years is insane. Try finding a Nintendo game with that record.

Concerning the graphics, I think it's trying to keep the same sort of feel and style of the original, it would be pretty jarring if it was a completely different style than the original. I do agree they could have done better, but I don't think it's that bad.

Dark Moon will always be my favorite game in the series even if it doesn't have what 1 and 3 have to offer. I like that Nintendo decided to "remaster" the game for switch as it's overlooked by fans but like with Skyward Sword HD, it feels like a port and not a remaster. The only things changed mainly are just the visuals but even then it's barely noticeable and not even the cutscenes change anything as those feel as if they're exactly as they were. I feel like they tried to do something but it just fails in almost everything. The only reason other than not having a 3ds or the game for people to buy it is most likely just for adding to a collection which I'll do. even for a hefty $60. The worst thing about this is that this shows that Nintendo put much more effort in the LM1 port for 3ds than this and was a POST-SWITCH GAME since other games like Kirby's extra epic yarn and M&L:BIS also sold very bad around the same time but at least those games tried adding something new.

I agree on perferring 2 over 1, that and the better boss fights and it just not being as short really. SSHD has some improved visuals and it has a lot of QOL improvements and is a good remaster tbh. Is the lighting really that bad? I thought the original Luigi's Mansion 2 was that bright too. But yeah 3 looking better is a problem. However a remaster isn't the same as a remake and that is important to know, and I feel like if the price was 40$ it would seem more fair really. I agree they should have released both 1 and 2 really, I dunno if I would call releasing a remake on the 3DS one of their most brain dead ideas though I mean it did finally have 3D so there's that, it's just the timing was bad. I guess the reason it was remade for the 3DS was for the 3D really and how that was originally planned for the original Luigi's Mansion. Yeah it is really weird how Metroid Prime remastered which looks amazing is somehow only 40$ while Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is 60$. I think my favorite Luigi's Mansion game is 3 with all the bosses and ghosts and all the unique floors, but all the games are great really. I dunno...maybe I don't really have a favorite lol, they all have their own unique things about them.

Honestly the only reason i see to buy this remaster is for the online mode since it got shutdown on 3DS

general thoughts. Mario vs Donkey Kong at least had additional content+graphics revamp which could be seen as a filler title that brought something. Princess Peach Showtime is new and an attempt at something further from the scope of the series but probably failed to garner a audience commercially which could be cynically seen purely as a riding on Mario Wonder's second-wave of *actual main Mario content* (not sports or party) that could be seen as IP brand strengthening for Illumination's series/Universal Theme Parks. It's also telling that they pretty much shuttled Peach out the door upto its release, they even tangibly tied-in pastel pink valentines joycons for some reason, it didn't get mentioned in the MAR10 direct at all. and another thing, Luigi's Mansion 2 had a placeholder title and a "Summer" release date, it didn't get the HD slapped on until sometime before MAR10, and infact got its release date there. Paper Mario TTYD was just the game that everyone actually wanted. everything else would just sink like Another Code: Recollection and Endless Ocean: Luminios. I kind of fear what'll crop up in june's direct. i mean afterall, LM2 already has a date, and they essentially Everybody 1-2-Switch'd NES Championship Edition to the slaughterhouse months before its release date. it was pretty much open with how many NES games are actually represented straight up in its reveal trailer. think i'd probably fear being Super Mario Party 2, Pullblox or Buddy Mission Bond (unlocalized) if there wasn't more-awaited titles that may or may not exist, like a Prime 2/3 remaster, or maybe a port of F-Zero GX with the AX content preserved (it's actually embedded in the gamecube game, if you use gameshark codes. it can be played natively). Mameda no Bakeru (fan-translation DMCA'd) might risk being passed over due to being developed by Good-Feel who handled Peach's game, if it actually gets revealed in a direct. Guess JP direct can pad out time a little bit with a download-only version of Re-Boot camp? kind of expecting Intelligent Systems to suddenly barge in with either Ike's games, or remake Geneaology. they've been on a roll since they jumped out of Warioware: Get it Together-teritory and more into TTYD and WW Move-It territory. i don't think HAL would risk doing another Kirby MTX game. New Denpamen will probably drop the word Free in localization.

Yea they should’ve thrown in Luigi’s Mansion 1 if they were going to charge $60. The 3DS Remaster on the Switch would’ve been nice. Ah well I’m debating whether to get it or not cause I’m itching to replay it as well.

I've waited so long to play Luigi's Mansion 2, I can wait a few more years for it to go on sale. As much as I want to play it, I'm not paying full price on it

I wouldnt be suprised if luigi's mansion 1 would be announced at the nintendo direct.

The sad thing is Luigi's mansion 2 remaster even tho they didn't do much to it had more effort put into it than the 3d all star "collection" or skyward sword upscale port, you can see how much they care about their own games by the effort they put into them just look at metroid prime remaster in quality and pricing which is the prime example of a good remaster.

It liked it fine enough but having the main gimmick being rushing through the courses kinda defeats what I like about golf games which is slow and methodical/strategic.

I agree with your views on the original Luigi's Mansion 2. I like the new controls for the Poltergeist more than the original, but was not a huge fan of the level structure. But lazy port or not, I still plan on buying it just to be able to play it on the Switch and to have legal ownership of that version of the game..

With the releases of Super Mario RPG, and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, standards are very high. So this game likely being a dud baffles me to no end.

You know, I think this game looks great... in a poltergust (see what I did there). The problem is that they're selling this for 60 dollars on the same system as 3. Oh and also, there seems to be a "Brightness" setting. Not sure what that means but it looks similar to the one from Luigi's Mansion 3DS. Ironic, isn't it?

Ok for my fav LM game is 3 I just enjoy it and play once in a while. This is probably one the moment I agree almost completly with you demeech, I am thinking is gonna be like the worst rerelease on switch especially after trying the demo of kingdom heart cloud version which was a mess but yeah this remake look underwhelming and I am not having too high expectations, the lighting is less of an issue for me is just I feel as a whole LM2 suffer from being brighter as a whole but yeah it does make it feel less spooky, but if there one thing I agree the price tag isn't ok and unless there will be reasons besides HD and control scheme I see it as wrong. Kirby's return to dreamland deluxe my second favorite game of all time only behind forgotten land and it really develop from me some expectations and standards when it come to prev gen remakes, HD is good but the additional content can go a long way. What I expect LM2 to have to justify his price, personally I go with a hard mode, boss rush, maybe new areas or mansions to explore and I see a co op with gooigi add, I am not sure if you see this one to one in my eyes as make the price acceptable let me know. Overall I don't think it will end like said KH collection or last of us 1 on PS5 that just asking too much when the PS4 version asked less may I add, but I won't be suprised if it will be nintendo's weakest release of the year yet, not a bad game but not a great one. Do I plan to buy the game maybe is just my targets atm is FF10 and metroid dread but I can't tell I plan to buy it let alone digitally. Even though you still had a negative review about it, I am still glad that it wasn’t a demeech’s fury type of review, this game was one of my first games for the 3DS along with Super Mario 3D land, Mario & Luigi dream team and Paper Mario sticker star, I have a soft spot for these games and I don’t want them to be seen in a negative light though I do know it is your favorite 3DS game

I don't want to be that person but there is one game that you said that it was on the Wii U wasn't on the Wii U and that was Kirby star allies but I get it if you haven't played the game cuz the game is way too easy and at worse it's way too difficult for the spicy mode😅

It saddens me a lot since Luigi's Mansion is in my top 3 most loved franchises.. I hope Luigi's Mansion 4 will be amazing otherwise I will be extremely disappointed

Luigi mansion is part of the Mario franchise technically so the Mario franchise is your favorite!

I’m pretty sure it’s due to the retail price they are charging for this game. 60$ for an HD Port isn’t justifiable but that’s just my opinion.

Never played it so its new to me so i don't see the big deal.

Luigis mansion 2 was a complete snorefest. No ammount of new models or lighting can fix the awful pacing and lack luster content .

I think they did a better job remaking skyward sword than this game. The graphics suck compared to Mansion 3.

LM2HD is not worth the $60

You do realise that they permanently reduced the price of the 3DS version at $20USD late in the 3DS' lifespan and continued to sell it at that price until they stopped making copies of the game and even until it was eventually delisted digitally in 2023. Even now, you can still find used copies at a decent price.

This is the reason why i didn't buy the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon remake either. Why pay double the price what is essentially a port of the original game? If its for convenience, then that's one HUGE convenience fee...

Because that’s what Nintendo’s calling it, and that’s what it was called everywhere around the world EXCEPT North America. It shouldn’t have been called “Dark Moon” in the first place. Now that we have a third game, retroactively calling it “Luigi’s Mansion 2” just makes more sense.

Why is people hating on this game too much this was the first game i played in my childhood and plus i got this game on my birthday when i was 10 and it was also the Nintendo selects addition so it was $20 when my dad bought it 😢 but the looks fun to re-enjoy my nostalgia 😊

It's the exact same game with slightly better graphics and costs more than the original. With most remakes, people usually expect more to be added like extra things or a new story/campaign which this remaster doesn't have.
