So the issue you showed where you said that Spider-Man doesn’t usually survive falling- well in that issue AS SPIDER-MAN IS FALLING he notes how “he will probably be fine and has survived worse” before black cat saves him. And the man who wrote that comic had read every Spider-Man comic there is before starting his run. So I don’t know if you’ve ever actually read that comic but…But I do agree that videgames and movies even should be allowed to be over the top and unrealistic at times because that’s what comic books are about

I do strongly agree with the vast majority of your points in this video though- only thing is that I wish superhero movies, like superhero video games, were allowed to be more over the top and have more freedom with their stories. I mean that’s the fun of comic books- their larger then life! They shouldn’t be panned because the physics don’t line up or something. You’d rather watch Spider-Man just fight like some normal guy rather than do backflips and stuff? Modern Superhero movies are a lot of times too grounded by reality, unlike older superhero films and comics, like the 2000s Spider-Man trilogy where they’re just over the top enough without being silly (not that the raimi series is perfect). But superhero films should be allowed to have fun with the characters the same way the comics and games do.

The game needs you to move in close both so you can enjoy your first swing and so you have an actual idea of where you are, it would be pretty confusing if you triggered a cutscene in times square before it was even visible just so you could be a realistic distance away.

Is suspension of disbelief dead? That guy complaining about Spider-Man possibly killing enemies or exposing his identity through backpacks is just silly. Like, Peter maintaining sustained flight during his air combos or being riddled with bullets but still moving is fine but an enemy taking a spill on his head will instantly kill him? It’s a video game, there are the realistic aspects sprinkled in with arcade like action, like how in a wrestling game you can have a 160 pound guy power slam a 400 pound guy, because it’s a game and the main purpose is to be entertaining over realistic.

Yeah, I agree completely. I think however, that it's less of people being unable to cut a game some slack and more of some people really holding out for a game or form of media that will truly make you feel like you're in the shoes of Spider-Man AND Peter Parker super well. Which I feel, in-turn, creates this weird lens where any area that isn't up to such high standards is basically a mortal sin in comparison. I can't relate but I have friends who seem to feel this way so I'm that's my two sense as to why so many people seem to nitpick.

A good rule of thumb to always keep in mind is that a story only has to make sense within its own universe. Only compare some elements to real life if you don't have any good reason to believe it's any different from real life. (Things like physics and laws and shit). This means that just because a thing has fantasy or sci-fi doesn't mean it's ok for nothing to make sense (always hated that argument)

If I'm being real, the personality thing I'm not really a fan of. Peter having an attitude is cool and all but...I feel like back then, it makes more sense for him. Y'know, when he was more of a teen. But now he's gotten very humble, he's grown, he's past a lot more of that stuff. He's called the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man for a reason. I feel like him acting like a douchebag is just...frankly out of character for him. He's snarky and cracks jokes at bad times, and tbh...the guy said Spidey's villains hate him for insulting them, so this one being friendly is kind of out of character and doesn't mesh with that idea: ... Firstly, having a full-fledged conversation with a bad guy is incredibly frustrating when they're trying to murder you. It shows very clearly that the guy talking about how these grunts need more variety in their uniforms /really/ isn't taking this fight seriously in the slightest. Fights where...usually those grunts are literally trying to kill him. That in itself, is a GIANT level of disrespect imo. And then mesh that with the fact that...he actually does insult his bad guys: "Y'know what Herman? You have like zero personality." "Man, you guys make swinging and missing an art form!" "If only you guys put THIS much effort into your fashion choices!" "You guys drunk? Or just stupid?" "Remember our first fight? Me so young and stupid...you just...stupid-" "I dunno if you were paid to kill me or recruit me but...you kinda suck at both-" And imo, Spider-Man's personality is handled pretty damn well in this game. So yeah, while I respect that Twitter users opinion and respect the fact his pfp is Vegeta, I also hard disagree with that take too.

Elaborating on Yuri’s quips and general Spidey performance, it was VERY different at a certain point in development. There are clips online that show early builds of the game, some of which show Spidey (in a different looking advanced suit) relaying his quips with a significantly more assertive and deeper tone. For reference, it’s pretty much how NPH did his voice for Peter in TNAS, which I think for the general demeanor of Peter before say his marriage, is damn near perfect. Most modern adaptions of the character make teen/YA Peter way more soft and child-like, which I’m not a fan of personally. Young Peter’s age in-costume shouldn’t be easily discernible imo. USM was the only adaption to change this but actually make USE of this change

The bandwagoning and recency bias the game got when it released on PS4 and people saying it was perfect was a bit much, kinda like what happened to Elden Ring recently, but I agree with you. Spider-Man isn't perfect but it's very solid imo. I've only played it a few days ago now that it came out on PC. Overall it was about what I expected: Insomniac knows how to make a polished game with great attention to detail (been a long time Ratchet & Clank fan) and what I looked forward to the most, the web slinging/swinging, didn't disappoint. I'd even say it's the most fun traversal out of any open world game I've played. :D On the other hand, I must admit I'm slightly disappointed that it didn't really bring much new to the table and it clearly borrows A LOT from the Arkham games when it comes to the combat, as most people have realised. So the combat lacks originality, but it wasn't a huge problem to me, as the combat system is still perfect for Spider-Man anyways. The gameplay I did not like however was from MJ and Miles, which was boring and completely lacking in depth and then on top of that, as you mentioned, MJ was written in a way that made her a bit unlikable... I'm also not a huge fan of the way Spiderman was treated by the writers sometimes, be it through MJ or just him being played like an annoying idiot cracking bad jokes (as mentioned in the video). I also found a good portion of side quests and challenges to be a bit repetitive and recycled, but to be fair, most open worlds struggle with this. But I suppose this is all the criticism I have for the game, most of which could be taken as nitpicks to some people, so overall it's a game I'd recommend.

How the goddamn fuck did he just forget the backpacks even though he placed tracking devices on them? And the method he used to track them is complete bullshit . He modified the oscorp surveillance towers to track more than just crimes, which is really invasive. Keep in mind that Spider-Man is aware of corrupt cops under the employ of Wilson Fisk. That’s not only problem with insomniac’s Spider-Man, he’s a ruthless asshole as well. Spider-Man encourages these reprehensible actions. Just like the elevator with the demons, you don’t need to take those demons in the elevator but Spider-Man actually encourages this deplorable act of ruthlessness. Spider-Man actually encourages the player to web the demons in the elevator shaft so they inevitably get crushed by the elevator or incinerated by the Molotov cocktail. Since Spider-Man encourages it, that means insomniac actually thought that’s something Spider-Man would which proves how clueless and misunderstanding they are of the character of Spider-Man.

The only thing I majorly dislike about the game are the civilian stealth missions. And a couple of the boss fights are boring. And Peter and MJ's relationship is weird. SK's video made me so angry based mostly on the fact that he ignores the medium to make judgements about the game as if it were a movie. That's just not possible with with a video game narrative. The one that had me the most upset was him criticizing the fact that the player is allowed to perform a web takedown in the elevator if they want, and passing that off as bad characterization for Peter. It's a completely optional takedown that was given to the player to allow them to play how they want. Since game design is about letting the player play how they want within the mechanics of the game. So, in the game design, the devs want to account for every option the player can think of to get past an encounter. For a Spider-Man game where you can take down enemies, it doesn't really make sense for the player to not be able to do that in an elevator shaft, and then they would be limiting the player for the sake of cheap stealth. If SK has an issue with that, then that would be an issue he has with the game design, not the writing. This game is by no means perfect and I think you do a great job at pointing out some of the issues that I also had with the game, but it is still a damn good time and a great game. It has some great moments of characterization, fun gameplay and combat, great suits (they finally figured out how to incentivize the player into actually stopping crimes, just give them suits as rewards), and a great villain.

Some personal criticisms of the game itself: - I wish Peter was an actual loner, it seemed like he had it all figured out and everyone in his life was great (outside of Octavius). Maybe make Parker more of a loner and have the consequences be felt more in the game. Like when Peter Parker got evicted out of his apartment, I wish it had more of a consequence in the gameplay - I wish the color scheme for Peter's suit was different when the first few trailers came out. I also wish he had an actual job like a scientist (outside of otto's lab) or was a science teacher like in JMS's run. - The boss fights were lackluster - The Open world is definitely the most developed but still feels repetitive of other Spidey games - I wanted Peter to respond and/or consider what Mr. Negative was saying about Norman Osborn's selfishness (while still stopping Mr. Negative of course) - I would have wanted a scene after the main story where Spidey confronts Norman Osborn

An additional point on people being thrown out of moving vehicles, is something that is already covered in the video game. When you knock an enemy off a building, trip-mine webs cling them to the nearest wall. I would imagine the same exact thing is being done to the passengers and driver in car chase side missions. Mind you, I’ve never bothered searching for the last guy thrown out, since I expect them to just be despawned, but in the event their bodies are indeed rendered unconscious on the sidewalk, then we return to the points made in the video that everyone in that universe are just more durable. Just look at how easily each of them brush off a manhole cover or a motorcycle, before you’ve punched them a fair amount. If the enemies can’t be found and are despawned, then it’s safe to assume Peter saved them with a web to land on, or hanged them in a web-cocoon from a traffic light.

I completely agree with the first guy. Peter's portrayed personality has been my biggest issue with this game since the launch. Unfortunately the hype surrounding this game due to the refreshing quality has shushed its criticism, but I believe that aside from Peter just being too much of "just a good person" and having taken away some of his general arrogance and insulting demeanor towards his enemies, I think most characters are depicted as being unrealistically "do-gooders" or plain victims of circumstance, as if no one could ever be faulted of anything, unless you're the bad guy. Besides that, the suits the game wants you to play with throughout the story are unnecessary redesigns for an already perfect and iconic outfit. This is my criticism, however, all aspects surrounding gameplay and the game's graphics were excellent. Edit: I have a special bone to pick with MJ's portrayal. It's part of the modern trend of subverting her character into a more independent and strong headed demeanor. MJ is not Lois Lane, she doesn't need to be. MJ is a fun, loving, flirty party girl who's there by Peter's side to support him when he needs it the most, and that's all she needs to be for it to work. If you make her Lois Lane, the Peter, MJ dynamic doesn't work, doesn't seem like they have any chemistry or ever be a couple in the first place. I think it's part of the unflattering decisions and direction the narrative of this game chose to take.

I think sometimes it's fun to nitpick a video games logic, but only as a way to get a laugh, not as valid criticism. Like many of Spider-man's attacks, like that brutal uppercut that launches enemies into the air, would kill them. The backpacks are obviously unrealistic, not only because it reveals his identity, but because of how silly it is that he forgot all these when he specifically placed trackers on them. But neither of these makes the game bad because these things makes the game more fun. I love this game and it's by far my favorite superhero game. I can understand why some may not like the personality of this Peter, or MJ placing herself in danger and whatnot, but I had no problem with either of these things. This is my favorite version of Peter. I liked his extreme friendliness and dad jokes.

I definitely agree with the criticism about Peter's humor. It honestly gives some MCU vibes. I do, however, like Miles, especially replaying the city that never sleeps DLC after Miles Morales and seeing how much he grows up that year. It makes me really excited for the story potential of Miles seeing a darker side of Peter in the next game.

Well cant you assume that the reason he gets there so late to save the cops is bacause the cutscene in the timeline happens at the same time youre swinging? As simple as that, and then his appearance is a few seconds after he reaches the 100 meters, they overlap basically

I love the game but the writing could be alot better for MJ, tbh i took intro seen with the police was fine, in my point of view I thought it was happening while you were web-slinging to the objective. Don't get me started on the shallow ass stealth, glad they done a lot more with it in Miles Morales. For the killing it's visual flavour, to have these over the top bombastic move's, I mean you could say that for almost any Spider-Man game, are we going to say riping boulders and Chucks swinging the around hitting people (amazing Spider-Man shattered demotions) or beating the crap out of some one and turning there face into a make shift skateboard (web of shadows) heck in the classic ps1 games you knock bad guy off the side of buildings fallen to there death, at least 2018 has that little web thing to catch them on there way down, and out all the collectables there just fun Easter egg, I'd rather them than just a 2300 of spider symbol from web of shows, heck I love the amazing Spider-Man game collectables because you can get full issues to read, an they have ti be none cannon unless someone writing spider man comics in its universe. Let start Team 3 it's a great foundation for a starting point let's hope the improve an build upon it. Sorry for the long ass text lol.

Me and my brother both love Spider-Man as a character and was the first superhero we were exposed to. Me and my dad went half/half on a pre-order copy of this game for my brother's birthday and I myself sprung for the digital Deluxe Edition and Me and him both greatly enjoyed our time with it. It reminded me when I was six years old playing the neversoft games and receiving the Spiderman 2 movie tie in game for GameCube that Christmas (which I was confused because we didn't have a GameCube but that was another wrapped present)

Otherwise the combat being clunky maybe because PC lol. I definitely think this game was really enjoyable I also feel the first cutscene was more like timed wrong maybe it like he swung in as we swung is how I took it like he wasn't there yet idk

The thing about Spidey Valuing MJ over the others in the train station, It's realistic that Peter would wanna you know save his girlfriend from the middle of danger instead of risking her die. Like I can't imagine someone in real life being a superhero and just saying they'd save everyone before worrying about what happened to their girlfriend. While it's the wrong thing to do it's also kinda realistic and gives a flaw to Peter that he has to over come later when he's about to use the cure on May.

This is the problem with us marvel fans Most of the time instead of enjoying good things about marvel and their projects, we complain about little things, some bigger and some smaller than others but still. This side of us is the exact reason Andrew Garfield's the Amazing spider-man movie series was canceled, and now everyone has changed their opinions and want him back. In my opinion the game is more than good, its amazing. Those small things are nothing in addition to phenomenal animation and effects. I think we should enjoy not only this game, but spider-man in general, as it is. #loveforspidey

That is not natural character progression, he even kissed Gwen Stacy in front Mary Jane. TASM ruined Peter because Captain Stacy told him to stay away from Gwen but he decides to listen to Aunt and continues to be with Gwen. TASM 2 ruined Peter as a character because that truck scene with the rhino. He stopped to talk to tell a joke which allows the rhino to kill civilians.

I want some COMPLETELY new shit in the next game, and all the things that aren't like the comics in Insomniacs game make Spider-man more likeable.
