Most guitar players rely heavily on the minor pentatonic scale but often fall into predictable patterns that limit their creativity. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced player, understanding how to break out of these patterns is crucial for taking your playing to the next level.

Very good lesson. I have been improvising for a long time and do things differently, but this is a great add. I really appreciate it. It gives another path. I am constantly learning, even after many many years of playing. It is amazing what you can learn when you drop your gunslinger ego and open your mind to other players ideas and concepts. Once we as lead guitarists receive praise from an audience for our ability, we often shut out other ideas and suggestions. It is like believing your own press clippings. As a young player it was probably more detrimental to my development than anything else. Not everyone understands what I am saying, but now, I really appreciate those who are willing to educate. Willing to give up valuable information rather than keeping others in the dark. Thanks again.

Appreciate detailed and meaningful comments like yours. Too many simply say "great" or "sucks" in so many words. Thanks for giving David and his approach your attention and commenting as you did.

Great video lesson here, thanks. Is there a book or video available that shows you what scale to play over what chord? For instance is there a certain scale that should be used with 7th chords?

Thank you! There are many scales that would work over a chord. I have a free workshop that will give you all the steps you need to figure those things out. You can sign up at www.guitarinfusion.com

OK, I tried this over F > C > G > Am progression, and I found whenever I played the F pentatonic over F chord, it sounded off. Somehow C, G, and Am scales blend into each other nicely, but F sticks out like a sore thumb. What am I doing wrong?

@@Wallimann No, I haven't! Didn't take notice that we also match major and minor scales and chords too. I was playing minor pentatonic over all the chords, just matched the key signature. After I have changed to major scale over major chords, I could clearly hear how the notes follow the backing track. Plus, it meant that I used the same shapes for both C and Am :D Thanks for pointing it out!
