I think Magnolia did genuinely worry about Mint's health if she stopped feeding him blood, which is why she was not only murdering people but dismembering them in the basement. The game does consistently show her as being anxious and overbearing towards him. But the fact she's been doing this for ten years, and her nonchalant manner during the chases, underlines how cold she is - while she cares about Mint's well-being, she doesn't care at all about other people's lives. Dove, whose concern for Mint was tempered by her respect for the sanctity of life, feels it's worth risking Mint's health to find a way for him to live an ethical existence. For Magnolia, because Mint is her only emotional connection, the risk is too great. (Particularly since, y'know, she isn't bothered by murdering people.)

Considering all she had to go through and sacrifice to get Mint, I think she was just unwillingly to lose the proof her research DOES have viability. It's interesting though that she could have brought her research and Mint to the right people and likely gotten all the funding and protection she could've wanted. She'd have been able to continue her experiments with great ease but she knew it'd cost Mint his life. So she's not entirely heartless, nor a complete monster, see her response to the sliced up human meat: "doesn't look delicious. Even you're not used to this." She just strikes me more as practical. Didn't sound like she went out hunting people, hence the mentioning of trespassers. Early on people probably saw a woman and a small child, living deep in the woods as easy targets. They'd go missing, stories would spread and then she had idiots trying to reenact Scooby Doo in her house. So, being practical, she probably was okay with the free blood delivery.

I think Magnolia does love Mint. It's kinda obvious reading her dialogue, the way she keeps his drawings and such. Her being cold and not caring about ethics comes from her not having ties to it (We can't know, since we didn't see her childhood and stuff). Still, she cares for her son because that's the result of all her research, which she did care about (Proven by the awards she kept in her room). TLDR; She cares about her son because she has reason to, unlike everything else.

Well, I think that Magnolia genuenlly loves Mint, not for any reason other than viewing herself as truly his mother. Also, on the part of ethics, I think that stems not only from self-preservation of herself; but Mint as well, being her son.

Agreed, I think her love for her son is also due to all the effort she made into the Homunculus project itself. She spent years doing something all the others couldn't, and on top of that, the kid wasn't even a real success; he had no magic abilities whatsoever. Even so, she cared for him as her own creation, basically a Viktor Frankenstein thing, cept she actually got attached to her creation and wanted to raise him the best she could.

There's also one where the pig torn open the wolf and managed to recover his brothers alive. They then ate the wolf out of revenge, and lived happily ever after in the same house. And also one where the wolf was satisfied with the first pig and left for the first time, causing the second pig to panic when they saw the mess of straw, and rebuilt their house out of sticks instead. When the wolf came back and ate the second pig, the third one made their house out of bricks. I loved this game, like Manly said, it's a pretty tragic story. However it's not pure angst, instead, It has a lot of bittersweetness to it. Personally, I found Magnolia's and Mint's moments very cute, but I prefer ending A. The game doesn't rely on trying to blow your mind with sudden plot twists, it builds a solid story on a steady pace and makes the player actually care for it, specially, its characters. Overall, I'm excited to see what the expanded version will be like!

Though I love the three endings: Ending A: Killing Dove, leaving the house behind and being a parent for Mint. Ending B: Mint finally meets his mother again after going back to his childhood home(I think that in this ending it is shown Magnolia has either prolonged life or is immortal, living up to the name of "Witch").

Cute game, I liked the characters. Normally, I don't like stories where the _villain_ is the main character, b/c they typically take the position of, "We know we're unapologetic criminals, but those guys are _worse,_ so it's fine." In this case, they made Magnolia rather likeable in that you can tell she's _trying_ to be cold and aloof with her son, but his presence in her life has melted her heart somewhat. Even when she's murdering people to feed to him, a part of her still very clearly knows it's morally wrong, but she justifies it either w/ "For Science!" or "for my little boy." Still, she's concerned that he'll end up just like _her,_ b/c *she knows she's doing something wrong.* While there's no indication that she ever _stops_ doing the wrong things, the fact that she even _contemplates_ that makes her more sympathetic. Basically, she's somewhat relatable, b/c _most_ people would do (or at least consider doing) the wrong thing for the sake of someone they love. Also, Mint is *_ADORABLE._*

_"I will NOT be denied my food chain!"_ Alright, I'm gonna sound like a typical dorky fan here, but I really wish somehow MBH would read ALL the fairytales in a special video series. He is an excellent wolf here and if I were a young piglet, I'd make sure my house was made of sturdy brick. And you are right MBH - in the original version, the first two piggies were rightfully eaten. Now... they all survive which minimizes the moral of the story but is less "scary". I like the original. I felt bad about the "good ending". I felt Magnolia loved Mint. She only gave him up and disappeared so he could have a more "normal" life. And so she could escape being imprisoned. Who is to say that if no one interfered with her that she wouldn't have gradually shifted his diet and experimented with less deaths involved. She had to pay for her crimes, but I felt sad for her. In the 'bad' ending', they escaped on the train. She was talking about changing his diet. She didn't say she'd keep experimenting. She was afraid of him becoming like her, but Mint seemed to be a loving kid. Either way, Magnolia and Mint were together in both endings. :) I liked the premise of the game, the art, and the music. Good job.

That was interesting. I mostly agree with Manly's thoughts, with the exception that I don't think Magnolia _liked_ killing people. Certainly her empathy is pretty much gone apart from her son, but I still think she sees it as a necessary evil, rather than as something she is doing for the fun of it. (Though yeah, I imagine she could have found another way to feed Mint, and just didn't bother because she valued his life waaaaay more than anyone else's.) It's also cool that she kind of wins in both endings, though B is better in that Dove surgvives, Magnolia doesn't ahve killing her erstwhile lover on her conscience, and Mint grows up to be a normal person and not a remorseless vampire plant monster. I am curious as to what other endings might be planned; I like redemption, but it needs to fit the circumstances. (And I don't think going to rpison would be very constructive, from all I've heard of prisons.) Anyway, really nice to see a villain protag! 10:49: Honestly the house probably is haunted, considering how many people are unnaturally killed there. I think that the theory that best explains why talking with plants seems to have a positive effect is that if you are talking to a plant you spend time examining them and paying attention to them. If you pay attention and check up on them often and for longer time you more easily catch and fix problems. So by all means keep talking to your plants if that gives you an easier and more pleasant experience tending to them but it's probably the actual tending that does the trick and not the talking.

Just standing there, talking a bit, and then letting themselves get stabbed. The only one with a gun was conveniently also the only one with enough personal stakes to f*ck it up spectacularly. I was really invested in that story! Hope they continue making games, I'm sure they'll make some really great stories! Also ya it's nice seeing a properly cold character, think the main characters was really well written to both be cold as hell and relatable.

interesting parallels between magnolia and dove wrt how they treat mint. I like how both are morally grey in that magnolia routinely kills to feed mint and that dove is willing to risk mint's life to find an alternative food source. suuuper in love with the portrait and CG style, and wow, am I looking forward to the "complete" update. thanks for showcasing, I would've missed some details if not for you 👍

I think Magnolia is just a garden variety psychopath. The clue is in the title of the game - Symbiosis. This is more than just an allusion to the "mother and child" type of relationship, it's because Magnolia uses Mint's dependency on blood as a way to justify her murders, which she enjoys. You can even see this in her rejection of both Dove and Mint's attempt to get her to experiment with his diet - she claims that she doesn't want to risk losing him (although Mint himself said his reaction wasn't that bad) but this is just because she doesn't want to lose her moral justification for murdering people. She's basically a horrible mother that justifies her own desires for illegal research and murder by putting on the mantle of a self sacrificing mother, even though she knows that ultimately her actions are going to destroy not just the relationship between her and Mint, but also Mint himself. You can see this in the Ending A where she considers that her way of raising Mint is turning him into just as big of a monster as she is and she finally relents on trying to figure out a way to change his diet. This ending is probably the "Good" ending because you can infer that she probably stops murdering people, at least for Mint's sake. The B ending however is different - although it at first seems like a good ending because Dove survives and Mint is ultimately "cured", there is no character growth for Magnolia - instead she evidently spends the intervening years holed up in her laboratory conducting more experiments and murder - probably using the abandoned house to lure in looters that she kills. Sure in both Endings probably Mint grows up to be fine, but the difference is trading Dove's life for who knows how many people Magnolia murdered since that day.

Way too in love with Mint, he is too precious. I wonder what his real name is? I can’t wait for more, honestly, I’m very invested in the story and characters. Magnolia was cold (but I can get somewhat of her drive and dedication to her work, it is admirable, but she went too far) but she did seem to genuinely care for Mint, through it was probably more because he’s her research and less because of motherhood and actual love (tho I do think there is a mix of both). The second ending, she gave him up so easily and just continued to start another experiment, and how she welcomed him home sounded so sinister and hostile-so that leaves me to believe that her worry for him was mostly just him being her research with perhaps a little sprinkle of motherly instincts mixed in. I hope someday we’ll get to know more about her past, especially with Dove since it said they were married. How and why did they get married? Magnolia doesn’t seem like the type to marry for love, perhaps for other benefits like financial stuff perhaps? But she seems like the type that would think that would be too much of a hassle so I’m really interested in their history together-
