I played this for my husband's funeral. Met him when I was a crazy homeless 17 year old. Married at 19 for 40 years and my life was wonderful with him. He was my everything. John died 7.9.2018. Every day is another learning to live without him. I have to count my blessings, they are all due to him.

She then and throughout our 40 years together, gave me strength to carry on again and I am the person I am because of her love and friendship. A wonderful singer sung this song at our wedding. How lucky we were to meet 40 years ago and now retiring in a few months time to share another 30 years together.

I first heard this song in NC. Years later, after ending up on the streets of New Orleans, a stranger came along and offered me help. I ended up getting help in a hospital, and one day another stranger told me that GOD must need you for something so HE sent you here. That afternoon I heard this song on the radio, and realized it was a message to me sent long ago and ignored, but now I was able to hear the words. They were the perfect explanation of what I was experiencing. I cried a tear, HE wiped it dry. I was confused, HE cleared my mind, etc. Every situation described in these lyrics explains the GOD I now have in my life!! Somehow HE NEEDED ME then, and still does. I still weap with joy when I hear Anne sing this. I believe she’s speaking to GOD. What a wonderful hymn!!

I am also a recovering addict alcoholic. 3 months ago I took an AA chip for 14 years. I have been searching diligently for a mate who would love me back. I have been alone for 16 years. I finally found for her and she loves me back. A different perspective on this song is that even though I have been clean and sober for over 14 years I have been at the end of my rope trying to find a reason to continue living. It is interesting to me this song refers in the title to what she needed, but the lyrics refer to what she has given me. She has given me strength when I was at the end.

Radio stations just don't play this great kind of music anymore and it's a shame and ignorant of them because ballads were the source of the majority of #1 records. This song took 11 weeks to get to number 1 on the Billboard charts after debuting at #35. But it was in the top 40 for an incredible 23 weeks (almost half a year!). Such a simple lyric and melody which adds to it's brilliance. Anne Murray figured it would be a hit after breaking down in tears at her first attempt at singing it.

My birth mother helped me through a difficult time 50 odd years after she gave me away.

This song is currently helping me get through the death of my uncle. He was a wonderful man, more like an older brother to me than an uncle, but unfortunately the demons of war followed him home from his tour. Woke the last few mornings singing this song to myself, not sure why but thought I'd come and find the record .....then saw your post. My Mum died when I was 22, the event not only changed my life but the way I look at life, 35yrs have passed since that day and while I only see her in pictures and memories in my head I feel she is with me most of the time, I try and live my life in a way she would approve but have messed up a few times!. There is no love greater than a mothers love and the is no person greater than your mother, I am sorry to hear of your loss but life must go on, leave the sorrow behind you and think of the joyful times you had with her and move forward, she will be there with you, as mine is still with me.

I remember hearing this song for the first time in my car. I was driving to my clinical practice at nursing school at 6 AM one morning, and it was all I could do, to hold it together. What a great song!

Jesus Christ can change and restore the broken lives..We need Jesus Christ more and more..

My ex husband passed away today, an old friend reminded me of our song, it applied to each of us individually. How we reached that fork in the road where one turned left and one right I’m not sure. It’s brought back so many great memories, I thank my friend for that. 💖

I am 84,, now living here in Toronto,Canada since 1972, while not really a sentimental person still this particular song and how it is sang by Anne Murray can't help but bring back memories of that part of my life that gave me hope indeed. Hope that I cherish to this day, inspiration that can work wonder in our lives. My life,for what is worth has been a happy one thanks in part for the woman who became the mother of our children. She held my hand and helped me see the world on a clearer perspective....yes,literally on a ...pedestal,thanks,God bless to all,amen.

When I’m listening this song I really miss my mom a lot and it tore me to pieces 😭😭😭😭😩😥💔💔💔💔😭😭😭😭😭 she really likes to sing repeatedly... I can’t get over ... everyday every night every single day I just wanted to hug my mom tightly... how I wish to see her for the last of her breath... I was hurt ,, I feel the pain everyday , that when you got up early in the morning you remembered her a lot what she does and her responsibilities as being a mother of us 😭😔 I can’t move on, she passed away for almost 2 years and the most difficult in my life that she died in the Philippines and I’m working in abroad so hard to go home due to covid 19 I cannot see her anymore .. she told me to go home... I regret a lot ... I really hates myself while my mom begging me to go back home as soon as possible... and I never thought all of these ... everything’s happen for a reason .... I can’t get through.... so hard living in this world without a mother .. 😭😭😭😭😭😭💔

Each tear you have shed for your mom represents a joyful memory you have of your mom, you should see that sadness in that light. Your mom holds no grudge as it seems like she was a great part in raising you and becoming a well rounded person. I'm sure she is watching over you and is proud of her daughter.

I love this song 🤗 They use to play it on the radio 📻 when I was at the horse 🐎 barn after school. I was probably 9 or ten (75"-76') at the time. One of my first 45 records. They used to have a 45 record display at Fred Meyers 🤗

I met Anne and her Husband the first time she played CNE. I was her limo owner/driver and I can tell you she is signing this song about her Husband. Thank you for that night.

Humans are real and there are people walking on this earth that can clear your mind. They can lift you so high that you think you can see eternity. If it's done between two lovers then believe me it's possible. And believe me a man can do to a woman too. There are enough good man

When I was at the lowest point in my life, and going thru a divorce, my now husband did all of these things for me. We needed each other. This song means so much to me and makes me realize how much I appreciate my husband and how far I've come since that dark time in my life.

She's one of the best. We Canadians love her very much.

My dad was dying from lung cancer and one Sunday we all went to church. I remember sitting in the third row from the front, on the right side of the church, the side upon which sat the podium from which Pastor James Wilch would deliver his sermons. It was a beautiful Sunday Morning and someone had told Pastor that my dad had not been able to come inside. During his sermon, which was about how people abandon God and his love until they truly need him, he mentioned my dad. He said, "Mr. Dietrich is so sick, that he cannot come into the church, but he loves God so much, that he is sitting outside the church in his red truck, so he could be close to God. This is what undying love is all about. Soon Gene will be gone, but let no one say he doesn't love Jesus!"

I discovered this song after my father had passed away this year. Today is Christmas, and it’s particularly difficult not having him here. But listening to this song and thinking of him brings me joy to my heart. He was the most selfless and kind soul and I’m always so thankful to him for providing me with the best life possible. If anyone has experienced losing a parent, I pray you heal and are able to think of them while reminiscing on memories of them this holiday season ❤

1978 I first heard of this beautiful song. Today 45 years away still this song is very touching

Mom would sing this ... she was getting older and needed help but never asked or said she needed help ....but strangely she would sing this when it would come on the radio and look at me and smile ... and I think she was telling me she needed me and as time went on the words became so so right as she lapsed into confusion and it seems I did the things in the lyrics for her without knowing until I saw them in print ..keeping her dignity and at home out of a nursing home ... I loved her

This song has a special meaning to me. I had hit the bottom, after a divorce, while stationed at CCK AB Taiwan 1977 - 1979. One of my co-workers picked me up and took care of me. We fell in love and 35 years later we are still together. Regardless where we are on life's highway, there is always someone along the way that is willing to reach out and help us when we need it most.

Saw her so many times in concert, have always loved her. Ironically, my ex made me go, as she was Canadian, but Anne's songs reflect the wife of my heart, my second wife, more than they remotely did my Canadian one. This song will play at my funeral, if my Greek wife can bring herself to allow it. I hope she does.

This song always touched my heart. In the late 70s I was saved/born again, the tail end of the Jesus Movement in history from the Baby Boomers. It was the era of the hippies, rejecting materialism, seeking truth, wondering what is of true value? The Lord drew many of that generation and I was one. Gave my life to Christ at a Billy Graham crusade. Have not been the same since. When I heard this song it was a reminder of how Christ literally changed my life. I was one of those you would have said "Oh, she will never amount to anaything - abused, bitter, used..." But God saw me hurting, stumbling, needing Him. He loved me. He came to earth to save me from the sin that was eating me up. I pray this new generation will reach out to Him. He loves them too. With Jesus, the real Jesus, your life is worth everything. He gave His life's blood to save you and have you with Him. God bless.

When I was taking a driving lesson (a very long time ago) my instructor (really nice man,bless your cotton socks Mr Shelton Hawkins) asked me if I knew a song he'd heard for the new woman in his life. Luckily from what he could tell me about it I recognised it as this song and he was overjoyed.
