Mati, the part that you don't want paint, to keep rust at bay cover that area with "coppaslip" this will keep any rust at bay, and you still have what you wanted.

bought some for the A3 this week so will get the wheels back off and coat them up! cheers

That paint will flake off eventually as the hub gets warm. You would have been better using VHT (very high temperature) paint in a rattle can. 👍

only thing with rattle cans is that I have to mask off the entire world to ensure I dont get any over spray haha

I few mins into your vid I was holding my breath thinking “please don’t paint them red, please don’t, please”. Phew! Oh, and Top Tip; don’t be tempted to paint your front discs to match.🤪

Yeah red certainly wasn’t on the agenda this time 😂 Wish you had told me not to do the discs before, all the paint rubbed off them straight away 👀 haha

Where are you resting the trolley jack on there mate?

Why did you have to replace the rear drums? Had my up gti exactly a year now from new and no sign of rust yet thankfully. Good video. Definitely prefer the black finish

They were getting properly stuck on when the handbrake was released, replaced drums and pads and that seems to have sorted it! This is 3 years old mind but the drums were very rusty before replacing!

Drum issues on the up and standard polo are quite common they regularly need to be stripped and cleaned. Aftermarket shoes are actually meant to be better

Have you ever thought of getting rid of the bog vw caps on the wheels and add smaller centre ones

110 Nm I believe, although many garages overtighten, always move wheel on ground and re check.

Makes you wonder why Volkswagen don't pick this eyesore up.

Why the f-ck has a modern day gti got drums on the rear, even normal modern cars have discs all round, haven’t things advanced since the mk1 golf gti that this car is supposed to be emulating.?

I was thinking the same thing to be totally honest, but I must say that its by no means under-brakes, in-fact the brakes are pretty good!

Get a bit of acf50 on those mounting faces mate, really good stuff….. used on aircraft & motorcycles to stop galvanic corrosion.

Main thing is you’re happy with the car. I’m my opinion you’d be better off with a fabia has discs all round and dsg. Why the fuck that’s not standard with discs is a disgrace!

Dsg is not for me in a car like this, manual all the way! Agree with the discs though, but to be fair if you drove it you wouldn’t know it was on drums, stops well enough!
