I rearranged my whole apartment for my cats! There’s cat beds everywhere! Cat houses & litter boxes in their favorite places. Just ordered a huge cat tree. They are definitely tree dwellers. All kinds of things for the kitties in my home. I work at a shelter, and I work with cats & dogs. I absolutely love cleaning and decorating and rearranging the cat rooms at my job. So my apartment looks like a big cat room.

My cats all love cabinets. So instead of fighting with them, I let them have all of the top ones(I'm short so can't reach anyways). I put beds in some, food and water dishes in others. One is right by a window so I added a cat tower right next to it to extend it and make a cat tv. Unfortunately, I can't risk a catio. I live in bear and cougar country and they can get into catios and have done so.

Good solution. My guy only goes outside when we can watch him in the fenced yard. So I'll also leave closets and cupboards slightly open for him. He loves to use those as his "caves" and places where he looks for prey. Also he keeps cool in them when it gets hot in summertime.

My baby boy mostly likes the floor. He will occasionally get on his table and look out the window, but normally the floor is where he likes to sleep or the bottom shelf in my bathroom. Recently I figured out why he wont let me sleep at night. He would start crying ad soon as I'd shut off my lights to go to bed. I used to have to let him out just to get some sleep because of the up in my face meowing, but 2days ago, I realized that when I turn the lights off it's completely dark; however it's not dark out side there are street lights. So I thought to put night lights in for him, so that when I shut the lights off to go to sleep, he will still be able to see around the house. It worked...hes now comfortable enough to stay in all night long.

Hi Jackson! One of my cats was constantly drinking from MY glass, despite clean, fresh water bowls in several rooms. If he couldn't jam his face into it, he'd tip the glass over--then run away from wet feet--argh! Finally, your "no/yes" message sank in! I put a small bowl of water on the shelf between his jump-up spot and where I set my glass and TA-DA! He hasn't bothered my drink since, because he gets to his 'up high' bowl first! Thanks, Pat & Zazzle, no longer soggy ;-)

One destroyed furniture with pee and clawing and the other hid under the bed. It got to the point where I didn't know if I could keep them either. Franziska Weiße YES! I was saying the same thing to my husband!!! (No shade intended) BUT I am a *very* “involved” cat-mom of 2 - & on a majority of the shows I always think to myself, how can they not pick up on the very clear signs😔🤔 While I’m self-aware enough to know that I’m far more “involved” than most cat owners (most people by cats as a cute, exciting gift - Only to then expect them serve as quite, “independent” as most say 🙄😑 unheard wallflowers) Meanwhile my hearts breaks because ALL cats only want to be loved and worshipped. ANY cat is going to not only return your love, they’ll give it back to you 50 fold. They are SUPER clear communicators! Listen to them ♥️🤗😻

My cat Abbey the red tabby was scared of her shadow. When she wasn't eating or using the litter box, she was hiding under the dining room table. I think she felt safe in the "forest of chair & table legs. One thing that she did was so out of character, she made me laugh. We had a large sliding glass door on the south side of our house, so even in the winter, it was like a warm tropical greenhouse in there.Because it was a great source of light, any flying insect that was trying to get out, ended up at that window. Abbey, who was typically frightened of her shadow, went into " Predator Mode," when she heard and saw that fly buzzing around. She would bat at it with her paw, until she knocked it to the ground. I never saw her so proud of herself as when she was chewing that little guy up. Now that's Cat Mojo!

My cat has always loved dressers, book shelves, and even exercise equipment. We give her different levels & don't have to bolt anything. We only have one cat tree for her, right now...she uses it to get to other places. There are some fantastic 'jungle gym' type cat trees out there. Some day we'll afford them! ;) In the meantime, she's content just getting where she wants to go. Does that help?

I know I've gotten a floor to ceiling cat tree that was pretty cheap. The top was a spring so it didnt bolt to anything. Used it in several apartments. Only issue is over a couple years the constant running up and down lessened the spring so eventually it didnr work anymore. Still used portions of it as scratching posts later though. Also can use book shelves, they have window suction shelves/beds, cat trees, you dont have to bolt to the wall at all.

thank you for sharing this. i know you have likely said all these things a million times and i had heard of you before from that animal planet show, but only saw it randomly because i don't have that channel sadly. but i am going to try a few of these ideas this weekend. i feel so bad that i am just now learning it after having had my cats for years, but hopefully they will find some benefit anyway and it isn't too late. biggest thing is i'm going to block off the unders and other places i can't get to where they tend to fight. i am not sure how to deal with their food situation yet (one has a spot only she can get to to free feed cause she eats slow and the other has a different spot and he eats all at once) because i think that also contributes to their fighting when he is hungry and he knows she gets to eat whenever. but i will check out more of your videos and see if there is something i can do about that. and hopefully these fast changes will help them feel more confident and secure in their relationship to the space, each other, and me :) thanks so much!

We just moved into this apt in April. It's now June and we adopted our fur baby a week ago. Eventually, my husband is going to enclose our existing patio/balconey and put a door in so we can still exit thru the back. We also have one commercial cat tree. It's on my to do list to make more cat trees.

Thank you Jackson for acknowledging that alot of us don't have the area or money, permission, etc., to build a catio. I would LOVE too have one for my cats, but I can't. I go to bed at night feeling like I'm a bad, bad , bad cat mommy cause I don't have one.... I love my furbabies and have every toy you can imagine.. I have 2 cat trees only heavy, glass ( non pourous) food dishes, interactive paying every day, sooped out litter boxes cleaned out wit only hot water, and only moderate noise in my apt. Nothing too loud. When I have guests(ingrequentlg) they know my cat rules and if they don 't abide they cute don't visit again. However, the catio thing makes me feel lacking as a cat mom. Am I doing ok?

2 of my cats are super easy. They are confident where ever they are. Up, down, mid, sleeping in the bathtub... My newest doesnt really like the floor but will come off his Ups to beat up my dogs :-( (he was raised with dogs and knew mine for a year before he moved in, he was fine with them until he moved in)

My mom sadly does not like all the cat stuff everywhere so I’ve tried my best to make my cat happy without getting complaints. Other than simple cat trees and cat hammocks on the windows, I am also going to make a cat highway in my room. I also walk her and if I have less time she likes to run around the backyard

We have the privilege of living on a smallholding so our cats grew up being outdoor-indoor cats. Roads, dogs etc are far enough away to not pose a danger to them . Now that they are older gentleman we have an area fenced off for them ( cat-proof fencing ). The cats love it, especially if I spend time outside with them. We've moved around a bit, for a while, during which they had to become house cats. Now that we are back I have had to help them to enjoy being outside again. They have come to love their outside time! It was such fun to watch my one cat, who became really stressed with all the moving, run around like the fun little kitten he once was. He's almost 16yrs old.

Question for Jackson or the community!!! I have 7 cats living with us. Two of them spend most of their time outside in the catio, because when they *do* come inside, they both pee on walls and curtains. I 100% think this is because they feel unwelcome being around the others due to the fact that they are outside most of the time and don’t really have a place thats “theirs” inside, if that makes sense? I’m trying to work with them and hopefully have them both feel more confident and comfortable in the home so they wont feel the need to mark anymore (but my family is against me bringing cat trees and cat beds inside the house, not to mention putting up cat shelves! so it’s kinda hard to work with them as effectively as I could be if they had higher safe spaces..) I’m determined to help them though!! so far I’ve tried mixing the cats placements everyday (some go outside and some (including the two) come inside for the day), which has shown a little bit of progress, I’ve also tried having them all in together while keeping their attention on me through a string feather toy, which help a little too as well. Anyone know anything else I could try??? I’m on board with any tips at this point

I LOVE those cat balconies, climbing shelves, bridges, etc...but won't work in my house. We have an older house with low ceilings. In fact, I can touch the ceiling on my tiptoes. Therefore, wall-mounted shelves for cats would be head-bangers for the humans. :-( Anything higher would be too near the ceiling to access for cleaning. We do have a tiny postage-stamp deck, that we had thought about turning into a catio, but that was before my husband passed, and I'm not confident in having the skills to do it. Being on a low, fixed income, can't afford to pay someone else to do it, either. :-( Litter boxes? I have as many as I have space for; 2 behind the couch in the living room; 1 in the hall bathroom; and 3 in my bedroom closet (no doors on the closet). I refuse to have a litter box in the kitchen (not enough space, anyway) or dining room where we prepare food and eat; that's just nasty. Who wants to be eating or cooking and all of a sudden smell a pungent deposit? Yuck!

My cat loves watching bird videos on the computer, and loves high perches with window views- she races to the next to keep watch a neighbor cat walking by... But something you didn't mention- as a carpenter I've noticed how every Western Red Cedar or Redwood fence has worn spots on projecting corners right at cat marking height. They love that soft wood. If you know a carpenter/handyman sort of person, any project- be it repair or new construction- will yield cutoff pieces that can be attached to a door jamb or projecting corner, and your cat will favor that old gray fence wood above all else. (I Don't Recommend treated wood! but that's not hard to recognize) A two-foot long board and two small screws and it's fun for years. If a slight encouragement is needed, rub a bit of catnip on it at the height of her nose when she's on her hind legs. A scratching frenzy results, a great reward or distraction, and it doesn't get in the way like a post does.

There's about a 3-4 month old stray kitten across the street who acts "tame" so I posted on social media but nobody seems to be missing her. She followed me home like 3 times...and she's adorable. It looks like I may be having to "introduce" her to Cecil and Panther. I'm glad Clyde lives across town because when I "introduced" him to (then-kitten) Cecil, Clyde stayed mad at me FOR SIX. WEEKS. Who says cats have no memory? I was afraid Clyde was gonna carry THAT grudge to the grave! But he finally took me out of the 6 week long "timeout" he had me in...that boy....smh...

Uncle Scrooge McDuck once said: " To make sure everyone is happy, we all need to make some sacrifices. " Yes, I watched duck tales 2017 until Disney cancelled it. This is especially true for my family, my dad only cares about what he wants, and I have sacrificed everything to make sure he gets what he wants so he doesn't come home drunk. But when he started to cut it down, little by little, we all got what we wanted, until covid, when my dad's old habits came back, and then he got back normal again. I recently have been experiencing depression, and my family didn't notice because I covered my tracks by behaving, like a cat, just hiding all my problems until I can get over it, then destroy all evidence it existed. My mum finally allowed me to adopt an animal, but my mum said if I adopt one, I can't live in the house. So I am cattifying my garden, and stray / monkey proofing it, for some ( siblings) domestic shorthair kitten ( 1.5 yrs old ) arrivals, and I'll have my online classes outside, so I can spend a lot of time with them. I will have help in training the kittens, through friends and the Internet cat daddies and mommies, but I do know a few tricks myself, enough to turn a kitty into my personal, home always little ESA. I will be feeding it kibble and wet food as much as it is bad for them, but I do not have the resources and money to give them raw, so that's that. Annual bathings are necessary as well because they will be living in my garden as much as I need my ESAs in the house. Weekly walks, dental chews, teeth brushing, every 6 month vet checkups, regular feeding schedules .... The list goes on for whatever I'm gonna do to improve smoochkums quality of life, and the length of it. Edit : I am cat proofing it so the cats can't escape as well, so there's that. That's why I'll be taking them for weekly walks if they enjoyed the first one.

My cats LOVE watching TV and the iPad. They watch nature videos, Cat Games (channel), and cartoons, like Simon's Cat, and Lex and Cinnabon videos. I have made KZread Playlists for them, put it on constant replay, and let it play all day, all night. I have three cats. They all love to watch different things at different times from different places. I have windows and window seats throughout my condo, but they still love the TV and iPad, too. I guess they like variety.

I have four cats and only one litter box. Used to have two litter boxes but my cats will only use the box in the laundry room ugh. My cats are all floor cats, they know they own the house. I also bought some storage shelves at Walmart, put bathroom rugs on each shelf so they didn't slide everywhere and let my cats have that. That's probably their favorite place along with the top of the shoe shelves. When they wanna be left alone they go to the closet shelves. But when it's playtime they're all over the floor and that's most the day.

Makeshift catio: I use an ottoman with a cat bed pushed up to a window. Open the curtain and outdoor channel is on. Also they love the sliding glass door anything where they can watch birds or even just leaves blowing. They love to watch just about anything in motion.

hey Jackson, i keep asking in the live streams, but it never gets attention. i have a 5 month old rescue cat, that i believe is at least part bengal. He has all the traditional markings, and definetely the attitude. He is very inquisitive, and i want to build him some cat shelves for elevation and cat highway. But im not sure on the width of the shelves so i dont have a fear of him falling off. he tends to sleep everywhere practically hanging off his sleeping areas. We also have 3 ferrets and he loves to watch them when its their play time everyday. He isnt into playing with them yet, but is so curious to watch them. and I already have an oversized litter box in every room just in case. it really helped when doing litter training and kept the accidents to just a few those first weeks, and yes they were right out in the open in areas we all spend time.

My cats get ownership of the top level of every furniture piece including several tall display hutches with chicken wire doors. That way I get to keep & display my nick-nacks, memorabilia, etc. and the kitties get to own all the furniture penthouses with wall shelves to assist getting up top. Up on their penthouses, I put cat scratchers and cat beds in baskets, tasseled cat tents, and decorative hat boxes to give them cozy caving places while also being up high. However....one darling, my tortie girl, Paprika (or Prrrrie) is a floor cat. She follows me around everywhere and lays right in the middle of whatever room I go in. Even a damp mopped floor 🤷🏻‍♀️ 😆 Gotta love cat personalities! Because her mottled coat is so very camouflage, I learned to always carefully watch where I'm walking.

Litter box is really helpful for my cats and for me. I have two cats with 3 litter boxes. The other one was very timid for first time at our home but she's confident now after she knew she has her own box since the other one doesn't like to share his to the newcomer. They also have their own scratch post and their favorite boxes. I'm living in an apartment hence I have to make sure the litter boxes aren't smelly. It helps to have a lot of 3 litter boxes. Two for each of their own pee then one place just for poop, LOL!

My timid guy, Tibbles, one of his favorite things is having a sarong or some thin blanky kind of thing hanging over the arm of a couch, or over a chair, or a cat tree, that he can hide behind and PLAY behind, pounce on my other two cats, and so on. So I'm ordering some more "togas" for him lol. And getting inspired for more shelving. I tried the plastic fish but man those things bumping into the plastic is annoying and the cats don't watch it much. Maybe I'll try the bird feeder. We have 10inch wide extra boards on top of the window ledges so they can be in any window.

Definitely plan on checking out that book! I’m curious though. We live in a fairly small apartment in New England with two cats. (Unfortunately we had to move into a smaller space due to work relocation) we have every window available for our cats and usually leave windows open for them all year long but now that it’s getting too cold up here and the birds are all leaving I come home to find them super pent up and I can tell they get bored during the day... what can I do to help them while I’m at work all day?
