I had a Barbarian who became a zealot when she was cursed with lycanthropy and then cured by a cleric in the next town over. It was so impactful on her that she vowed to repay the goddess (homebrew harvest goddess) by being her instrument in the mortal world. The subclass as been one of my favourites since because it just has so much beautiful storytelling around it.

... I don't think I've ever seen my DM so ticked when my dwarven zealot charged an army, raged beyond death till the last round... Then used the dwarf feat where I can use my con dice to heal when I dodge, making my DM realize I basically had 16 lives!!!... Good times~

First DnD character, I knew I wanted to be a Barbarian But I wasn’t sure what subclass I wanted When asking the group for advice and I described what I wanted as “too angry to die, like the DOOM Slayer” everyone said Zealot God I miss that character

yeah one of my favorite type of action scene is just the main character refusing to go down no matter the beat down, and that's the Zealot to the tee.

Here's a fun idea: be a Leonin worshiper of Hercules Zealot Barbarian. Say that the Nemean Lion Cloak wasn't a cloak but his true form and then go Nine Lives from Fate/Stay Night on your enemies.

One of my favorite recent characters was a Zealot Barbarian stylized like a Pro Wrestler. I've been allowed to flavor a maul as him slamming fools WWE style, and he's a gladiator who dedicates his fights to the gods above.

My zealot barbarian was an Aasimar who believed in his own hype so much he got god powers from it

( 0:38 ) as a religious person, this had me Laughing my ass off. (I love dark humor.)

My Zealot was a worshipper of Liiara, he did his best to spread joy, make sure that other were free to live how they wanted within reason, and fight like he wanted to die. Flavorful af

First… to say this is a cool subclass with a lot of good multiclass synergies.

You forgot to mention that the Rage Beyond Death/Persistent Rage combo gets INFINITELY busted at 20th level when you get UNLIMITED RAGES. You never need to be healed again, as you can always start a new rage before the old one ends, making a 20th level zealot functionally immortal.

Unless someone casts Sleep on you. No saving throw, so Fanatical Focus doesn't apply. And you're at zero HP, meaning you fall unconscious without even reducing the effect of the spell on other targets. Can be bypassed by playing a race that cannot be put to sleep, though. Even then, other shutdown spells and abilities exist, Fanatical Focus only works once per rage, and if you start a new rage, your old one ends, so if you're at zero, you drop. Your death is only postponed until the end of your rage, not until you are in a state of not raging.

@@theuncalledfor Yeah, there are ways to break this, but being at 0 and raging again won't cause you to drop. Rage doesn't end when you start another rage, only when you drop unconscious (which you can't) and when you choose to end it. And, the wording of Rage Beyond Death says that your unconsciousness/death IS postponed while you are in a state of raging: the first words of the ability say, "While you are raging,..." not, "Until the end of your current rage,..." If you use your bonus action to Rage while still under the effects of a previous Rage, you don't stop raging.

@@prophetisaiah08 Okay. While you are raging, you cannot fall unconscious from having 0 hit points. That much is true. I got that wrong. HOWEVER. If you would die due to failing death saving throws, your death is postponed until your rage ends. Check the wording, I re-checked just now just to make sure. You cannot have two rages active at the same time. That just doesn't make logical sense. Therefore, you drop dead if you renew your rage while you're in a state of postponed death. Because you start a new rage, which ends your current one.

@@theuncalledfor I think the wording of that ability is too vague, to be honest, as the ability begins indicating one interpretation and ends indicating another. It's a DM's discretion thing, I think. I'd rule it that a 20th level zealot can stay alive as long as they can keep their rage going, as I don't think that's too powerful for a 20th level ability, especially seeing how it can be shut down by a 1st level spell that's commonly available. A player invested a full 20 levels into being literally too angry to die, so I think I should let them have it. If another DM rules it differently for their games, I can see why they would and wouldn't argue against them. But the rules seem to have the intent of giving the max level zealot pseudo-immortality in my opinion.

My players gave the displacement cloak to the zealot barbarian. I can NOT kill her. The worst she ever got was quarter health and that required a lucky back to back dragon breath, because of a surprise round. She went toe to toe with a marilith and was only hit twice in 3 rounds! An amazing class and she will never get the use the amazing death-defying mechanics

Really useful class for that self-centred reckless player who treats clerics ect as Heal Monkeys. "Look I'll heal you after you die....."

Try calling both. On a Gestalt campaign this is a crazy combination. (Although a LOT of classes are a very strong combination with paladin any way, be it rogue, barbarian, fighter, bard, warlock, sorcerer, druid, wizard or artificer)

Favorite subclass, AND you used God of War and an NF song! Absolutely perfect!

I plan on playing Aimo Koivunen as a zealot barbarian…. The name is definitely worth a google.

I have been toying with the idea of a Zealot Barbarian that's basically a lunatic street-preacher. Not from a tribal society, just a crazy person living in a city, who hulks out when something offends his god. Based largely on a Flagellant from Warhammer. I just don't really have the manic energy to roleplay that for long, haha.

My favorite character I ever made was a hobgoblin zealot barbarian with a silver great sword who loves slicing and dicing devils and demons.

The D4 channel should help as well than. 160+ character builds with a bunch theme builds sprinkled in, like a mac&cheese that's mostly cheese. There's plenty of good content I garantee it.

Would you try for way of mercy? I love the idea of punching someone back up when there down. Just say it only a flash wound.

You can never go wrong with any of the Barbarian subclasses, and this one will be part of my rotations.

Way back in 3.5 I played a barbarian in a DrangonLance setting. The cleric was literally the only divine spellcaster IN THE WORLD we were aware of, and he saved my character from what would have been a long and horrible death. She went full "rage for the glory of the gods" and tried to carry the cleric everywhere until he told her to stop.

Skin tone fair like snow. Fierce sky blue eyes. And a temper to match.
