    Most people say artificers dont fit on the medieval fantasy, but thas BS, because artificers are the magical blacksmiths who built all the magical items every class use, they are basically Hiccup from How to train your dragon but with magic from a wizard... A magical nerd blacksmith

    Enchanter is always the word I use, because Dragon Age was right, this is just a thing that every dwarven hold would have. A guy that specializes in affixing magical effects to weapons and items. Sure Wizards can also do that, but its the difference between being a general practitioner as a physician and being a specialist.

    One of the coolest concepts I came up with a Battlesmith Artificer is that he is also a former Emperor who abdicated his throne to be an adventurer. His steel defender is based on an Imperial Guard. I essentially made an Emperor Scientist in a fantasy setting. And I was even able to DM a mini campaign with my friends on the origins of his empire 300 years ago

    Artificers have a great flavor that none of the other classes rival in endgame. Laugh in the face of the wizard as you slowly start creating so much physical power you start bending physics. The wizard needs an interface such as the weave but you as an artificer just start brute forcing it and bending physics through sheer brute force. Lvl20 Wizard uses wish to destroy a tarrasque? Eff that. You make a supermassive blackhole and destroy reality itself in the localized area of where the tarrasque is. Literally creating so much force you collapse reality itself with the tarrasque in it. The wizard might bend reality but you just beat reality with a blunt stick til it broke.

    I played a Battle Smith Artificer once and he turned out to be a blast to play despite my initial concerns about playing a front-liner character again(there's a story behind that). He was a Kobold named Golurk(I named him after the Pokemon) who's logical, methodical mindset combined with his courage & drive to prove himself reliable ally created a fun time for me while I played him. Additionally, he was able to ride around on the back of his Steel Defender(which he named Clang, another Pokemon reference) and fight from there.

    @@dharmeshmistry342right off the bat, by being able to use INT for not only spellcasting but attack and damage roles makes you basically single ability score dependent. You can max out INT early on and then use your remaining ASIs/Feat choices however you want, be it maxing out your CON, taking a bunch of Feats, etc. Then, thanks to your Steel Defender being one of the best pets/companions in the game, you’re basically two characters in one. Then, with all of the Infusions you can use to buff yourself up, you can become basically a one-man army. You can build a Belt of Hill Giant Strength to give yourself a STR score of 21, an Amulet of Healing to make your CON 19, just to name a few examples. Plus, your ability to infuse your weapons and make them magical guarantees you can bypass resistance/immunity to non-magical weapons, and by being able to use INT for attacks with magical weapons, you can be just as good at melee combat as ranged without needing to invest in both STR and DEX or simply DEX and limiting yourself to finesse weapons for melee. The Soul of Artifice capstone giving a +1 bonus to all saving throws for each attuned item you have (which is a maximum of six, twice the max for other characters) is basically like giving you Monk’s Diamond Soul (proficiency in all saves) or Paladin’s Aura of Protection (boost to all saves equal to CHA bonus). If you wanna see how good a Battle Smith can be, check out Tulok the Barbrarian’s video on how he built Tommy Oliver from Power Rangers. He made him a Human 1 Monk/19 Battle Smith Artificer. Similarly, you could check out his build for the Master Chief from Halo. While for that he went with Armorer Artificer, the overall build being I believe Human 14 Armorer Artificer/6 Evocation Wizard, you can still see how the base Artificer’s Infusion ability is so powerful

    Ok I basically comment about this character every chance I get but I'm really proud of them so indulge me for a bit. His name is Gremkahm, he's a Locathah artificer (armorer subclass, not battle smith unfortunately). He comes from an advanced, mostly underwater city of Locathah that runs almost entirely off of magitech, it's basically the pop culture depiction of Atlantis except it was never lost, it just started out in the ocean. Gleaming brass architecture (not bronze as zinc typically isn't found on the ocean floor, but both copper and zinc are), the whole shebang. However, up until very recently, they had no idea that civilizations existed on the surface as they lived in the shallows of an extraordinarily remote archipelago. Of course, there were other colonies and towns, but that gleaming metropolis was their capital city and there isn't exactly much reason to expand when you're entirely self sufficient. Anyways, they saw a boat and met the people on board, were flabbergasted, and quickly established the Terranaut program, where participants would create their own suits of armor that had water-filled compartments so they could live indefinitely on land. They have water filters and air bubblers, a hatch for food, etc. Gremkahm is one of these Terranauts, and is tasked with documenting his travels to learn more about the surface. Aesthetics wise, he's pretty much Minion from Megamind but fantasy/steampunk. Also, donning and doffing armor is reflavored as switching parts of his suit on the outside with, say, plate armor or scale mail.

One thing I've suggested is for low levels 1-4 get Magic Stone for a way for a few people in your party to get some magic damage early getting around pesky enemies that are resistant to non-magical stuff. One thing people sleep on is that as you level up you can swap your cantrips and infusions, as far as I'm aware Artificer is the only class that lets you change cantrips as a base feature, so keep that in mind.

Rather than have a traditional steel defender, he was a war hero and survivor who had lost one arm and replaced it with a sentient mechanical prosthetic that functioned the same. It could attack and defend, spread out his turn a little bit affectively giving the arm its own turn as per the rules, and I got to do some cool stuff with it. Just a great, fun character in a fun campaign. I look forward to playing him next time, but I'm not sure when that'll be because it turns out the magical vault we were breaking into concealed some kind of almost Venom style symbiote that completely replaced match of his body and apparently made him into some kind of super monster. Warforged Artificer with a Steel Defender that looks exactly like their patron. Even made to look like they’re equipped a shield and wearing the same armor to complete the disguise. GM gave everyone a bonus feat at 1st level. So took Heavy Armored for +1 Str and Heavy Armor Prof … 20 AC with a shield wearing chainmail. Active infusions are Enhanced Defence & Returning weapon. Will tank as needed but our party has 2x Barbs, Cleric, Paladin, Druid, Artificer. Battlesmith uses Int for combat with magic weapons, Returning handaxe. Four of us are Warforged: mine, Cleric, Druid, Paladin. Shield spell, 25 AC! Will multi into Warmage for +2 AC or +4 saves as a reaction. Int bonus to Initiative. Our GM provided a novel approach to creating a standard array. As there are six players, we each rolled 4d6 take the best three (once), that was our contribution to the array. We ended up with 7, 13, 15, 15, 16, 18 before racial modifiers. It is set in Eberron so a tough setting.

    An Battle Smith Druid with a tree he gave tree arms while all the trees are alive for his steel defender and an old rusty small robot over grown with plants that uses the plants to power the robot for a Homunculus servant. Maybe just because an acolyte of a church about technology being in harmony and cultivating nature.

    One of my players played a Battle Smith in the Tomb of Annihilation campaign. He put his forge inside his construct (a robot Velociraptor), another party member (Nature Cleric) tamed a few flying snakes, and they convinced the snakes to live in the robot's mouth where it was the perfect temperature for them. So he could have the robot open its mouth and suddenly 5 snakes bit whatever was in front of it.

    Given that the spell storing item says it replicates the effect of the spell rather than cast the spell, it wouldn't require any material components, so you could sell your spellcasting services in cities, cast Continual Flame 10 times per day with no cost to you and sell forever-torches that are safe and don't consume any fuel, undercutting any wizards since it normally costs 25gp to cast. (Or just go round casting Magic Mouth for free all around the town, normally also 25gp each) if you have enough gold.

    So just to be clear, If I want to cast a spell, All I need is my tools? I don't have to use my tools to put magic into an object? (I might be getting it confused with infusions)

  • @tristanmitchell1242
    @tristanmitchell12429 ай бұрын

    The lore reason for using tools as magical foci isn't "wrench is wand". It is "i want to throw a fireball. Luckily, I made this really nice Fireball Gun." You are limited to spell-slots because balance, not because lore.

    Ok, so rn only Bard & Sorcerer is missing (unless Bloodhunter count too for some reason...). And while i understand that keeping that "1 per class" rotation thing would be straight-up impossible (cleric/wizard have double the subclasses of Druid/Ranger/Sorcerer! And let's not even start with Artificer subclasses...), having that at least for the 1st round would be cool. So while i personally would prefer "Abberant Mind Sorcerer", im gonna join the 1 comment saying "Lore Bard".

    One of my first characters to play at length was a Dragonborn Artificer. Tool Expertise made the Rogue feel a little inadequate 😅. But being good sports we decided to make that a little mini character arc for them. We ended up as the greatest thieves around.

    Big Mistake done, not a problem but missinformation. The Infusions are not all active. You can hae an amount of infusions active equal to half the number you know. So at first you know 4 of the list in infusions and can have 2 of them active
