Lol guy said he will have his home paid off and will have 3000 dollars per month to live off of if he retires. Ramsey says you can't live off 3000 per month. Me scraping by with less 2700 per month take home pay with 1100 in rent and surviving somehow... Has Dave forgotten how to be poor? Lol.

Question about Dave's advice to the 67 yr old woman in California. He said it was unlikely she'd burn thru 600k in a nursing home. True, but if she burned thru 250k- she still (hopefully) has another 20 yrs to live. So I don't know if the remainder would be enough to support her that long without Long Term Care insurance?

Lineman is a hard and dangerous job with required overtime and often travel following the storms. Not saying it’s a bad career but not for everybody. We sure need them but if you don’t like being outdoors in the hot, cold, dark, holidays, etc., think about it.

It’s just a way to ensure there’s a second set of eyes that oversee care and funding. For example, my parents are the nominated guardians of my children, but my brother is the executor of the estate and trust. I know they work well together and there won’t be any big problems. However, my brother is better suited to admin and he’s just there to help my parents make sound financial decisions. But I’m sure that if you didn’t have any other suitable options, you could give control of guardianship and finances to one person. Just make sure all parties know what you’re singing them up for and they’re happy and comfortable with the arrangement and that it sits well with you too xx

I respectfully disagree about forever homes. My husband and I have been in our home for 22 years and have no plans to move. My aunt and uncle have been in their home for over 50 years and have no plans to move. My parents lived in their home for over 45 years before they died. Are people more transient than they used to be? Absolutely. Do lots of people move repeatedly? Absolutely. Can you actually live in a house for years and years and never move? Again, absolutely. Just because that's not what Dave has done, he shouldn't assume everyone else is the same, then spout it as gospel.

It wasn’t a personal attack on you. He was simply stating that you shouldn’t outright assume the house you buy is going to be the home you die in because anything can happen, jobs change, family, etc. I would argue that just because you have lived in your home for a long time, it doesn’t mean everyone should simply not plan for future possibilities. What he stated was a general rule. What you stated was an exception. We don’t base rules off of exceptions.

In California, they don’t qualify if she has that much in the bank. California makes recipients sign over assets for some programs. I almost wonder if she is committing fraud or something . I’m a former eligibility worker for Medi-Cal but it’s been a few years so there may be some programs I’m not familiar with but when I was there, the only program that disregarded property was pregnant women only.

@@sharonhalk8679 Some unscrupulous lawyers have special "Medi-Cal trusts" that take money out of your name (but keep it in trust for your kids) and allow you to apply for Medi-Cal long-term care, even though that money in the trust will be allowed to go to your kids when you die. Medi-Cal doesn't make you "sign over" assets; they make you agree to "recovery", which means that after you die, they will attempt to "recover" the costs Medi-Cal paid for your care from any real estate or other exempt assets you had (if you didn't have one of these scandalous trusts). In my opinion, these relatively wealthy people who are sponging off the tax payer are a disgrace, and so are their kids that encourage it and the shameful lawyers who make a living off the whole ruse.
