So the breakdown of the stats and specific demographics is sick af. BUT braddah you know I’m gonna play devil’s advocate for you to consider the ugly under belly. When we deal with government sadly we deal with politics and politics will weaponize whatever angle of the statistics that suit their partisan ideology more times than not. A key stat you pointed out was the stark difference of opinion between people who live in Hawaii and people who don’t on their feelings if Hawaii is doing a good job at managing fisheries in their own state. Not only is the opinion so far off between the two groups but it also shows a huge margin compared to looking at the entire groups opinion on the matter. Why this is important is maybe let’s say you’re a local politician who doesn’t want anything to do with spending on managing fisheries or at least it’s farther down the list cuz maybe you care more about tourism and what people coming to visit have to say. That particular individual will focus on the “not living in Hawaii” stat and use that to drive their opinion home to avoid what they’d consider “needless spending”. Best example I can use when it comes to politicians willingness to use bs stats to support their partisan ideology is rep. Jason Chaffetz using a bs graph to smear planned parenthood. Now this did end up backfiring on him because he claimed the graphic he provided came straight from the planned parenthood website when in fact it was a graph collected by an anti-abortion web page. All that said my major issue lies with one thing, while this is an amazing tool to use to parse through data and get to the true feelings of the people on hot topics in our country the problem is that people within our government are willing to stop short of getting to the actual truth so they can settle with a more convenient truth and manufacture consent around an agenda they push using a specific stat that would support their position even if that stat would be WILDY misleading
