It’s impossible to waste time; all we do is have a positive judgement toward our past or a negative judgement toward it. If one reflects deep enough I believe you eventually arrive at the conclusion that things happened the way they happened and that the past informed the decisions that came next, for better or worse. I don’t see the benefit in believing I wasted my past so rather I see it as an experience that happened and there is no need to ponder the potential that I didn’t tap into at that time. Nice dungarees Steve.

I’m in my 20s right now and taking all the advice I can get to do it right. But it does get exhausting because it creates anxiety about making a mistake when I should just be living

This is so refreshing. I'd go even futher and draw a parallelism with a tendency in judging that time is wasted in relationships that are, for some reason or another, ended. So untrue. Those experiences are unique and fundamental to make you what you are. People would go as far as sayin 30yrs of marriage and 2 kids have been a waste of time. Personally, i see this tendency mostly in the western world, fixated with the idea of capitalism and productivity pervading every part of your life. Let's get rid of that.

As someone who really hustled in my 20s, I'll tell you I DO regret grinding so hard. While I certainly wasted nothing, the results were bitter sweet. Sure, having your own business and good money sounds great and does appear like "freedom." But, what about working 70-90 hour weeks with far fewer friends (assuming you have time for "friends")? What about the countless hours you'll spend to keep the money coming? The only ones I've ever seen who can have big money outside of business while having plenty of social time have generational wealth. Even their T-bill and bonds have better cash-flow than most businesses will. That simple. As a society, we need to worry much more about living a life among each other and less about growing (whether money, career, materialism, etc.) at all costs. It's breaking our society down.

I wasted my 20s AND most of my 30s. But like a wise man once told me... the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the next best time is today.

I'm also 29 and can't help but feel that my entire 20s have been a complete waste. At 21, I made a promise to become the best version of myself. After college, I worked tirelessly, never took a vacation, sacrificed socializing for better health (avoiding alcohol and unhealthy foods), and focused on saving money. Yet, as I approach 30 in a few months, I haven't achieved any of the goals on my personal checklist. I've begun comparing myself to friends who were more carefree but seem to have better lives than me now. Your explanation of the carrot analogy really resonates with me; that's precisely how I feel at this point in my life. Thank you for sharing this.

I'm 20 and this is exactly the video I needed... It's actually been going on my mind for a year, but you explained it concisely that it made much more sense to me now And I agree on the part about finally getting to be on your own in your 20s... It's scary but it's also exciting because you get to make your own decisions and achieve the goals you want without others telling you what you should do and strive for Mistakes are inevitable, but those would be the stepping stones towards your definition of success and also happiness Now I should stop overthinking and start doing, even if I don't know exactly what I'm doing... Afterall we learn as we go 😁 I know I haven't "wasted" my 20s yet but even someone who just started his/her 20s needs to hear this 😊 tysm Stephen!

So appreciate this! I've had to do a lot of introspection over the years to define what success is to me and what my values are. I'm sure they will continue to change overtime, but having these guidelines already defined in my life makes decisions on how I spend my time easier!

Basically focus on the process and the journey and you will inevitably end up in cool destinations as a by product. Enjoying the process and journey should be the focus and the destinations you come by the icing on the cake.

You guys need to calm down. Most people aren't going to have any significant net worth until they're at least 35 -40. And there's nothing wrong with that. Keep enjoying yourself to to that point, learn stuff and gain experience. It's really not complicated. And no, you won't be too old to have great adventures (with a big budget) when you're in your 40s, 50s and beyond.
