Just so you know, there's a flag in the shop that lets you 'mark' an upgrade, and will automatically roll until you have exactly enough to get the upgrade. This will prevent you from accidentally overshooting, and will remove the need to slow down as you get close to your target number.

OMG! I can’t believe you’re playing my game! I’m the developer for Roll and I’ve been subscribed to the channel for a while now. I love your content and it’s so cool to see you playing my game. I was going to reach out after some future updates, but you beat me to it! I hope you enjoy the game, I’ll surely be enjoying the videos! P.S. I recommend turning on Analytic Mode in the settings which will let you hover over your dice to get a readout of the calculations behind the scenes and is a good way to learn the upgrade interactions! Also right click items in the shop to automatically return to the shop when you have enough money!

It would be cool if you added a sandbox mode (just a mode with Infinite points/money and rolls) with the analytic tool, so you can have a proper play around with all the upgrades, how they interact and do some active theory crafting with upgrades if dice are in perfect position. Either way, I'm really enjoying the game atm, and its refreshing to see a simplistic (simple in terms of being un cluttered, cause all the combos in roll are complex) min maxing game that knows exactly what it is without distracting you with a story, over encumbered explanations and a progression curve which tries to persuade you to spend money to keep up with

CAN is the keyword here. The overall odds are the same. The difference is whether you wanna reduce the range of outcomes (by putting them on the same), or make it more luck based (by spreading them). I might be wrong, but I don't want to do the math right now

  • @geli95us

@@Jonas_Mikkelsen Without doing the math (which I will, fear not) the biggest difference is that when they are in different dice, they are multiplicative, which means that getting 2 x4 in 2 different dice will be a x16, while getting 2 x4 in a row on the same dice will be just a x8 so, let's do the math: For simplicity, I'll use 1 dice that's always a six, and two other dices, I will consider the value of the other dices 0 if they are not multiplying, there will be 6 x4 upgrades First case: the first die has 6 upgrades, the second die has none you get guaranteed 24 every roll second case: the first die has 3 upgrades, the second one has 3 upgrades 0.25 chance of getting a 6 0.5 chance of getting a 24 0.25 chance of getting a 96 so the average would be 0.25*6 + 0.5*24 + 0.25*96 = 37.5

I checked the top die (incrementor + reroll on every face) between 1380 rolls remaining and 1370 rolls remaining (12:50-13:20). The total value of all the faces increased by 15 during that 10 roll period, and as the incrementor increased the values by 1/2 every roll then the 2x rerolls seem to have worked. If it wouldn't have worked then the increase would've been at most 8 (which would've happened if all faces would've been X.5 so that the first 6 rolls all increase the values and then the next 4 rolls hit the same two faces twice or one face 4 times). Since your die had 2x rerolls on every face then every time you roll the total value of all the faces should increase by 1.5, and as such 15 increase in 10 rolls is exactly what was to be expected of the synergy and so it seems like the synergy works. Edit: The math stays consistent on even longer periods, giving on average 1.5 increase to the total value of all the faces. (It doesn't always hit exactly since the values don't show the halves, but it stays around 1.5 consistently enough for long enough to say that it more than likely works) (also the max is 99, so while the rerolls speed up the increase in value it isn't infinite scaling)

This game would be interesting with more dice variety, such as three-sided, twenty-sided or even 100-sided dies. This would add more strategy to things like void faces, which increase the value of the dice when they're NOT rolled, so void faces on a d100 would be completely busted. On the other hand, smaller dies would make normal effects and multipliers more valuable since they get rolled more often. Another way to add strategy to this is to give the various dies different number caps instead of just 99. Smaller dies should probably have smaller number caps since a given face will appear more often, while d100's could have level caps as high as 1000, although you're unlikely to roll a max level face compared to all the other possible faces.

If I had to take a guess at the best strategy, it's to put incrementers on your low valued faces, whole die multipliers on dice with a good average value, and face multipliers on your high valued faces.

you would want to put the multiplier on the higher numbers as it increases it by a higher face value. for example a 3x on a 1 only makes it a 3, but a 3x on a 9 makes it a 27, which is a way better return

Nah, that is the exact opposite of what you want. Yes, you want a big die at the start. But the way to go big is by having a new die get added every few rolls and having passives that quickly boost those dice. It is possible by the end of a run to get a die up to 99 on each side in just a few rolls, as long as you have the right passives.

Just because there's an element of luck doesn't mean you can't find optional strategies for some notion of optimal. There are areas of mathematics called mathematical finance and portfolio theory where the objective function is mean less some Lagrange multiple of variance.
