Such a fun video full of delicious food! I love how everyone knows you. It must feel good to have people come out of the wood works and yell your name like that. Then again, it might get annoying after a while, especially if you're trying to film or just want some alone time or privacy. Life of a celeb. :)

Such a fun video, Phuc Map. Everyone was entertaining and on point. I loved that wee little old woman who still looked young staring at you so sweetly! Just adorable! And all the food looked amazing! The beef on sugarcane, banh khot, banh xeo, sweet dessert soup...mmmmm!!!

When we're in malaysia with my wife and kids we enjoy Pasir Malam, nighy narket, great for random shopping, good foods etc

If you're moving to Hanoi, check out Chris Lewis's videos. Him and Max McFarlin (LOVE Max!!) just came back to Vietnam after leaving 6 months ago. Chris lived in Hanoi for about 3 years and has an excellent grasp of the Vietnamese language with perfect tonality and proper usage of Viet words (southerners tend to speak with a slang and will mix up some word sounds like Yietnam for Vietnam).

Why did you move to Hanoi? One thing I love about Viet cities is that they are not as cosmopolitan as Bangkok for example... I genuinely hope it stays like this and to not see thousands of westerners every day; that would spoil a lot of things. Let's try not to make Vietnam another Obnoxious "expat paradise". Hopefully their permanent Visa policy is much stricter than Thai one, let's hope it stays like this.

​@@doodahgurlieWhen I was a kid growing up in SW Houston, we had a big group of Northern dialect Vietnamese moved into our apartment complex. My friends and I thought they sounded funny and often teased and called them Bac Ky zon. We would get into big fights over this. After a few months, both sides set a truce and accepted our differences. We all became good friends after that. As I got older, I learned that the northern dialect is actually the proper way of speaking. It is often used on TV and in music.

@@baopham8676 Yep. It's similar to when you watch the news on TV in the US. The people speak a certain way unless it's a very local station, right? I live in TX now, but I grew up in the Midwest so we didn't speak with any kind of thick, recognizable accent (e.g. Texan, southern, Bostonian, Bronx, etc.)...we speak like the newscasters on national TV. When I first moved to TX, I had a native Texan tell me she was on radio and had to learn to speak so that everyone would understand her as her thick Texas accent wasn't desired even though she lives here and they are broadcasting locally. Pretty sure every country has the "proper" accent that's used for news casts and such.

Your pronouncing is so helpful. Especially when you're speaking with older people. I was recently introduced to a salon workers mother and she is 83 years old. I said 83 in Vietnamese and she smiled. I said it correct but I also said chào em... I put this video on my large screen and it's in a loop so I can repeat as much as I can. More to come.
