    You know that corn is cereal, same as e.g. wheat. In the past corn cob actually looked similar to a wheat grain. But because of selective breeding, corn now looks like this.

  • @NeonRahkshi

    @NeonRahkshi

    Күн бұрын

    interestingly neither corn nor wheat is actually a seed, but instead technically a fruit! (with a tiny seed inside) also every "seed" on the side of a strawberry is technically a fruit, making corn on the cob or even a single strawberry just one really low-diversity fruit salad

    Seedlings initially use the stored nutrients in the endosperm to fuel their growth. Once that stored food is used up, straight water won’t cut it. Life also needs nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur, along with various salts and other trace elements, and you can’t get those from just air and water.

    Very nice. Doesn't surprise me as corn is essentially seeds for the plant. You can start many plants this way. I currently have a pineapple plant that started as a pineapple top soaked in water. Little fun fact, if you will. The little dents you see in the kernels are actually from lack of moisture. Corn, beans, etc. mostly all have to be a certain dryness to be picked by a combine harvester and to be stored in silos and bins and such. Corn from a garden or corn for silage doesn’t have to be left on the stalk to dry and is usually harvested green.
