    @7:39: fyi, the armies will be zombie tokens, so these WILL affect your armies. Your army token will gain new types as you use different kinds of amass abilities. So if you have an orc army, then you amass zombies, you'll have an orc zombie army.

    They will be zombies, but they won't be tokens. An army token is only created if you don't control an army. So all of the changelings in the deck won't benefit from these effects, and if you got them out before you ever amass, you won't even have one token army to get the benefit.

    Great vid! I’ve built it quite differently - I’m keeping the Nazgul as 3-mana Ring triggers for Sauron, and because they’re pretty good returns as they keep getting cast. Maskwood nexus is a must in this deck: not only your creatures become armies, if you keep the Nazgul, they’re all Wraiths too. I HIGHLY recommend Archfiend of Ifnir in this deck, as your discards turn into one sided board wipes that get around indestructible… Lastly, and this for me has pushed the deck over the edge, Sheoldred the Apocalypse means your Black Market, One Ring, Call of the Ring, and any ring temptation will negate any life loss and potentially get you a ridiculous life lead. I agree that it’s hard to focus Sauron though, and the end product is that my version is a little bit lacking on the army side. But regardless, this is a hell of a fun commander to play!

    What I really like about this list is that you can win purely by beating face with a huge Army. No combo shenanigans, no $4k decklist, just a bunch of bulk that overperforms, and that exploits the Amass trigger in a way that feels natural.

    If the mechanic were about "seeking and not actually having" the ring, I might agree, but these are ring-bearers. The in-game implication seems to be that your Ringbearer actually holds the ring, and that's something Sauron wants for himself, not for his orcs.

    Just my first thoughts so far, nothing super detailed: I like fight spells for the deck (they target both Legolas and another creature), as well as protection spells, Mutate, and Auras. Pair that with cards like Soul's Majesty, etc. to Draw cards, then slay everyone with commander damage. There are some other tricks in between all that but those are my first thoughts. I was checking a ruling and the war of the spark lords turn your army in a orc zombie so they would work when the war of the spark amass spells are cast as they have been Errataed to amass zombie now and read as the lotr amass cards

  • @aegisgamingofficial2178

    @aegisgamingofficial2178

    That's correct, and still not useful for all the reasons I described. Notice that I also lumped Gothmog in with the WAR amass lords. - Even if your Orc army is now also a Zombie army, their effects only help zombie *tokens.* So if you have a changeling on the field, you get 0 benefit from it. If you have Maskwood Nexus or Arcane Adaptation in play, only one of your creatures gets that benefit. It's not their status as Zombies that's the issue, it's their status as *tokens.* That's why I showed off Lord of the Accursed and Hagra Constrictor as well: their effects can span multiple "armies," regardless of their status as tokens.

    It "works" just fine for me at least. But there's a big asterisk on that. The thing is that you're not so much using it as a cyclonic rift style sweeper- you're using it to reset cards in enemy hands. Even with only 3 islands in play I've been pretty happy with the results, but if you're expecting it to be a big blowout, you'll be disappointed every time.

  • @aegisgamingofficial2178

    @aegisgamingofficial2178

    10 ай бұрын

    Early on I was contemplating building this as a weird symmetrical storm deck. The shredder would've been spectacular in that build, but eventually I couldn't justify that direction. Shredder is doing a lot of the same things that Sauron does (counters from spellcasts from each player, looting), but none of those things *enable* Sauron to do what he's doing, or turn on our armies in any real way. It's a fantastic card, and it probably fills the role of some other card draw spell here (albeit with some upside), though I think it's questionable whether that upside is worth the pricetag for the gameplan. I'd probably still play Fact or Fiction. Overall I'd say I'm skeptical, but if you've got one, then try it out! For science, if nothing else 🤠

    Sauron's ability will tempt you "whenever an army you control deals combat damage." So if you can find a way to control multiple creatures with the Army type, the ability will see each of those creatures when they deal combat damage (4 Armies dealing combat damage is four triggers). Normally that's really difficult- Amass only ever gives you the first Army. So creatures with Changeling (an ability that grants every creature type) are really useful.

  • @dranox022

    question, being changelings that means that if you have more than one army the amass goes just for one creature or all the "armys" i mean if all the changelings are all types i can understand that they are armys too, how does it work?

    What's the point of having multiple armies if they don't come with the counters? How do you put them on so many armies? Thanks for watching! I love getting to talk about these decks more, and there's only so much you can really say in a video (and this one was going long as it was), but I appreciate the question. - Because Sauron's third ability triggers "whenever an army you control" does something, that ability is doing the most when we have multiple army creatures dealing combat damage. So to address that part of your question, it's for the Ring temptations. - To answer the other part of your question, this isn't a +1/+1 counters deck. The fact that Sauron puts counters on an army isn't the focus of the deck, since none of his other abilities care about those counters, so changelings not coming in with counters is a non-issue. However! Because of how the Amass ability is worded, you don't have to always put those counters on the same army: you can choose to distribute those counters among your armies when you amass. Not only is this a safer way to invest those counters by not putting all your eggs into one basket, *but it also helps make a Ring-bearing army harder to block* since the one holding our Ring can't be blocked by creatures with greater power. Having multiple armies to alternate where we put those counters makes it easier to connect, as well as provides more relevant creatures to connect with. Hope this answered your questions! Thanks for watching!

    You've got the army zombie - army orc interaction wrong. An old amass is now amass zombie. When you have an army orc and get an amass zombie trigger, your old army orc is now a zombie orc army.

  • @aegisgamingofficial2178

    @aegisgamingofficial2178

    8 ай бұрын

    What you've said is correct, but the cards that amass zombies (the lords in particular) aren't being cut because they don't interact- they're being cut because they don't do the things we need them to do (or at reasonable rates). I don't have it wrong...because I don't mention anything about it only affecting orcs. If we're after multiple armies and only pump zombie tokens, these really aren't helping with that objective to the degree their mana would suggest.

  • @aegisgamingofficial2178

    @aegisgamingofficial2178

    11 ай бұрын

    - If you're not a fan of shapeshifters but wanted to keep the creature type shenanigans, there are loads of cards that can grant creature types to your board. I gave Volatile Claws as an example, but Standardize would be a good combat trick to make all your creatures armies for the turn as well (just do a scryfall search in these colors for the phrase "creature type" to see more). - It would be a build-around, but Artificial Evolution targeting Sauron could change the makeup of the deck entirely. - If you're not interested in a "multiple armies" route at all, then it basically becomes Voltron for your Army, so protection, even more menace, and power-matters payoffs should round out the deck.
