@@lukecollett24 that’s not why people are getting stabbed lol. There are other ways to discipline children without using violence. My parents didn’t hit me and I’m not out there stabbing people. You can't really know if you haven't lived it. I am not saying it's a good thing bu it is not as horrible as you are trying to make it sound, just the hitting part, you don;t punch, kick or beat up your kid but a little hitting there and there doesn't hurt. Ask the kids themselves once they have a different perspective.

That's why he did nothing when brendan abused him. Because he thought he deserve the abuse because of what he did to amy. But then the amazing girl said, that ste didnt deserve to be hit too. There were so many times where amy kept pushing ste to report brendan to be police. But he kept refusing and at some point of breaking down, he said that he deserved it. I also remember once he asked brendan why he abused him, and ste said " i just thought i deserve it". What ste did to amy was horrible. They sorted it out and lived together and raised their kids. Ste got help and he grew for the better. If you've watched how brendan used to physically and verbally abusing ste, it was hard to watch. My point is, he knows better from 1st hand experience what it's like to be abused and ofc he doesnt want that for his kids. No matter how terrible you are in the past, noone can lay a finger on your kids. James was right until he abused lucas.

Locking him in the shed was far worse and he went too far. Back in my day, a quick slap or a clip around the ear was common and wouldn't warrant causing a big scene thus ruining the Christmas party in the pub, despite Joel's awful singing. The slap was truly an almost instinctive thing in the heat of the moment during an altercation. Clearly a one-off thing (which I hope remains so). Hardly systematic abuse. It's unbearable to watch James portrayed as an abusive monster for trying to deal with an out of control teenager
