You Can't Reheat Some Foods Under Any Circumstances

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Is it safe to microwave your food? Let's imagine you went out to dinner last night. Chances are you brought home the leftovers and they’re sitting in your fridge right now. But before you break out the styrofoam carton, pop it in the microwave, and chow down, you should know that there are some foods that actually turn poisonous when reheated!
No matter how tasty and healthy your freshly prepared meal is, it can lose its health benefits and even cause food poisoning if you reheat it in a microwave. Bright Side introduces to you a list of foods that you should eat as soon as they’re cooked.

SUMMARY:
- Whether they’re in a soup or stir-fry, reheating mushrooms in the microwave or on the stove is a big no-no. The change in composition can cause you to have an upset stomach, and they also lose their health benefits.
- Similarly to mushrooms, eggs are packed with protein that changes once it’s reheated. This can wreak havoc on your digestive system. In fact, eggs can become toxic when exposed to a microwave’s high temperatures.
- Even if the rice is cooked, boiling water won’t kill the bacteria. After the rice cools off to room temperature, its bacteria spores can multiply, and reheating it just keeps the bacteria alive. The longer it sat at room temperature, the more likely it is to contain harmful bacteria.
- When it’s time to reheat the breast milk, you should never heat it in a microwave because the uneven distribution of heat can create hot spots in the milk, which can seriously burn the poor baby who drinks it.
- Just like mushrooms, reheating chicken can change the food’s protein compounds and make you very sick. Unlike other meat (like beef), chicken contains a high amount of protein, which makes reheating it in the microwave a bad idea.
- If you place cooked potatoes directly into the fridge after cooking them, it’s probably safe to reheat them. However, if they sit out at room temperature for a while after they’re prepared, they’re more likely to develop a rare bacteria known as botulism.
- While nitrites are dangerous for adults, they’re incredibly dangerous for infants from 0 to 6 months. If they do ingest food with nitrites, they are more likely to develop “blue baby syndrome,” which can be fatal.
- Before you stick a leftover sandwich in the microwave, don’t forget to remove any toothpicks the restaurant may have stuck in there! Along with items with sharp tips, metal is a big no-no when it comes to microwave cooking.

This is really something! I have reheated in microwave & eaten practically everything in this video: eggs, rice, potatoes, spinach, chicken. Have NEVER had a problem my whole life & Iam 80! Of course early on there were no microwaves but have had one since they came out & have found it wonderful to be able to reheat dinner on a plate instead of using various pots & pans. What a convenience! One thing is I do refrigerate leftovers so have always been careful with food but as stated before have never been limited as to what can be reheated so this video is quite a surprise. 🤔

I rehat nearly all of those regularly. The trick is to make sure you reHEAT them not just warm them up a bit. Also put in sealed container and put in the fridge as soon as you can when you are initially storing them. Stir frying yesterday’s rice is a staple diet in my house and possibly in many Asian households….. it’s all about killing the bugs and developing antibodies.

I have never experienced any illness episode that could have been caused by reheating any of the listed foods. Although I am not refuting the video, the key takeaways here: 1. The microwave method of heating is only contributory because, due to uneven heating, the temperature is harder to control or know. For many of the foods, reheating to a sufficiently high temperature or reheating to no more than a sufficiently low (e.g. no more than take the refrigeration chill away and consume immediately) would be safe. 2. Reheating is exacerbating, not causing, a risk that was already present in some cases because the food item was improperly, cleaned, stored, handled, or cooked the first time. 3. We do far more damage in our handling and storage of foods than most of us realize. The reheating is merely increasing the danger. Simple example: When we take home food from a restaurant-prepared meal, the food typically spends an riskly amount of time at improper temperature, then we reheat it in a foamed container, and at least we reheat it in a foamed container.

Well one thing they have wrong is placing prepared “ hot food “ in the fridge. Tightly covered ( sure to get sick that way ). First you must allow it to cool no more then 2 hours before putting in the fridge and make sure the food is cool to the touch as covering it only keep the hot spots active. Put in fridge on top shelf uncovered to cool properly. Never put hot food in a fridge unless you possibly can afford a new compressor. The fridge compressor works harder to cool the fridge when a temperature change is detected.

I just reheated 3 boiled eggs (deviled) in the MW last week. Never had a hint of any digestion problem. I've often reheated a portion of leftover rice in the MW (Knorr) that had been in the fridge several days....No problem. Also leftover chicken from a big meal. No problem. Where I can appreciate your warnings ..and they may be valid, but we are not all created equal. Many people are very sensitive to the adverse effects these foods may have when they are reheated....Me? I seem to have a cast-iron stomach...lol But thanks...

This video is not about reheating but all about proper food handling and knowing how to handle all food properly. What is said in this video applies to all food. I can say these things about all food products. This video isn’t saying anything wrong just misrepresenting these foods to make people panic about what they have been doing. Just know your food handling safety and you will avert most problems in the future. I think the video should be more about how to reheat properly so you don’t ruin your leftovers. As long as it's only one day old and reheated through rice is fine for most people. I have known someone who ate takeaway microwaved rice and got sick so if you prepare it properly you have a lower chance. Most of these can be reheated on the stove safely rather than in a microwave.

Reading most the comments here, they are successful at re-heating items you mention. If you do it right, should be ok, but some don't know how to re-heat foods correctly, then they get sick. I guess it also boils down in how you store your leftovers so they don't spoil right away.

None of this is true. I have actually been cooking and reheating Eggs, Mushrooms, Chicken, and Rice in the microwave regularly for over a decade and never had any issues. Unless the food spends a cumulative maximum amount of time in the temperature "danger zone" (40-140F), which is typically ~4 hours for most foods, and never less than 2 hours. It will not become poisonous. Reheating and even refreezing, contrary to popular belief, is not dangerous in the slightest. Again assuming the cumulative time spent in the danger zone during those defrosts/refreezing/reheating/cooling, etc, does not exceed the maximum.

What?? - - If i eat a frozen dinner that contains spinach heated by the manufacturer during processing, then frozen and sent to grocery store shelves, and I purchase the product, reheat in my microwave, are you saying my health is in danger? Please provide valid documentation so I may begin a class action law suit.

TOP TIP! If you are reheating certain foods that tend to dry out in the microwave (like pastries) add a mug of water to the microwave too, the steam will help you keep those foods moist and fluffy 😁

"Reheated rice can make you sick" Never make me sick. Rice eaten cold after 12 hours on a fishing trip gave me stomachache for one whole week. I was too hungry to row my boat home. I had to eat it. Big mistake, but that's how I got my immunity for life. Never have anymore stomachache up till now. Cut the mole part off and heat the clean part in a toaster oven and eat it without a problem, several times.

My favorite frozen chicken pieces I buy are precooked. They just need to be warmed up in the microwave. If this was a bad thing to do I am sure the product would not even be allowed to be sold. So I am not buying what this video is saying. Everything it does needs to be questioned as it all could be equally false.

Used to work at a very VERRY popular chicken place that has many branches ( its even a competitor of McDonalds, don't want to use the name for my safety's sake haha). But the soup we served to many customers daily, all day. And it involved using re-heated chicken. I also trained with an FDA and CDC required food safety certification course that endorsed the reheating of chicken as long as a proper "cool-down" process is followed and the chicken is kept up to a certain temperature. Worked at that place for almost 8 years. With chicken everyday. Don't remember myself or any of my co-workers having gotten food-poisoning from consumption of the food. O.O
