Hey KZread, when it's a video on holding the grove, interrupting the grove with your ads every two minutes is a sin, in my opinion.

JD Blair is his name. I once saw the Wooten family band in a small club in Boston and apparently he also manned the drums for Shania Twain back in the day. During that show he hilariously admitted that the view from the back was much more appealing on her tour.
@wesleyboynton6535

@@jonnya3425 for what it's worth, you're correct that JD Blair was the drummer on this track originally, but on this performance it's Roanoke-based drummer Kelly Gravely. You can hear Victor call his name out at 10:42
Victor Wootens playing should come with a Parental Advisory warning.
If only I could have had Victor play with Michael Hedges. Individually, they play parts of at least 4 other persons, simultaneously. I was so fortunate to see Michael Hedges perform at MTSU back in the 90s when I lived in Nashville. I also got to see VW perform with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones at the 1998 Montreal Jazz Festival. The Wooten Bros played out in Nashville....I would think/hooe they still do. Do whatever you can to catch any performance of them!

Almost forgot to watch this today
I love the way he names his songs. The title is almost speaking directly to the player trying to learn the tune. I managed to learn the different parts quite quickly (they are pretty easy to remember) but fitting them all inside of a groove AND while playing percussion had me telling myself "you cant hold no groove" P.s. What Victor is doing before he starts playing, with his foot gently tapping on the strings is getting in the pocket, as the lyrics suggest: "you can't hold no groove if you ain't got no pocket". I found that finding the groove before playing helps while learning and beyond
This still holds up as one of the greatest live bass performances of all time. So much groove (no pun intended)

Just discovered Victor Wooten today... life changing
One of THE greatest bassers to EVER walk planet earth...Victor Wooten😎👍
Here's perfect proof that massively thick strings and 5 / 6 string aren't really necessary . Victor uses a 4 string with a 40 - 95 gauge set . Yet he gets amazing tone . If you know how utilize the fretboard a 4 string is more than enough .
@EvilSean62
2 жыл бұрын
the thin strings really help ... im trying to get mine down to that clearance which looks like an eyelash thick ...buzzing ... straighten neck ..level frets ...still buzzing ..sometimes the buzzing is just the strings rattling as they are too floppy so im going up a little to 40-105 ... fingers crossed but that means thicker strings ...grrr also dunno bout you but when i was buying my bass the assistant was surprised at the lightness of my right hand technique which speaks volumes to the anchor chain fans also also ..i have a few 5 strings and a 6 string TRB ...sometimes you need an actual proper bass with the correct 4 strings ...but im leaning towards getting a more technically oriented on as i currently play an american elite jazz which is wonderful but im wondering if i can get the action lower by shimming the neck a teeny bit and therein lies the problem ... vics bass has his expertise in the set up and cost twice what mine did ...that and its him playing it lol

What I like is how unique, and original Victor Wooten's approach to the Electric Bass is, and Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Larry Graham, Louis Johnson, James Jamerson, Abraham Laboriel, Chuck Rainey, Jaco Pastorius, Verdine White, Ron Carter: among many others, while playing the same instrument, each one has a distinct signature sound.
Ubelievable this guy!!!!! Always return here do listen again and again...

If Tommy Emmanuel and Jaco had a love child…. A complete mastery of the instrument blended with making it not only a rhythm source, but the lead element of the piece of music.
