You Can Climb A 'Book Mountain' In This Gigantic Library In China
This library is a book lover's dream come true.
The Tianjin Binhai Library, Tianjin, China.
33,700 square meters. Five levels. Enough shelf space for 1.2 million books.
It was completed by Dutch architecture firm MVRDV and local architects from the Tianjin Urban Planning and Design Institute.
It's nicknamed "The Eye."
"The angles and curves are meant to stimulate different uses of the space, such as reading, walking, meeting and discussing. Together they form the 'eye' of the building: to see and be seen." - Winy Maas, Co-founder of MVRDV
There's a giant globe in the center of the library. It has an auditorium hidden inside.
The climbable shelving acts as a "book mountain."
But there's a catch...
Not all of the books are real.
You can find a lot of books in other reading spaces beyond the main atrium space. There are sections geared for children and education.
The library has become a tourist hot spot since opening in 2017. It begs for the perfect Instagram photo.

Guys.I'm a local there and I'll explain a few questions. The bookshelves you see are fake but the books are mainly located at floors above,up to 5 floors. Those floors above provide a cozier place, not the whitish style on the first floor

@@xingkaiwang8230 Its an amazing building but the photos of books is so unnecessary. Why don't use real books, even if they are not accessible. It would look 1000 better and the cost for that expensive building should not be an issue.

@@karlpj1 They do,but higher, unacessible racks are filed with fake ones.
It's nice architecture, but I would never feel comfortable enough in there to relax and read a book. A library should be a warm, cozy, intimate environment, not a cold, sterile, open atrium.

Why not try more simple book then? like web novel. web novel it's my favorite time wasting when outside waiting for something. try novelupdate.com there is so many genre there must one that you interest in. every chapter in webnovel are short so easy to pickup and read. and the best part? it's free!
At first I thought I would live there then I realized most of the books are probably in Chinese...

I don't know if this library is good or bad but from my prepective, seeing a book that's put on shelf that cannot be reached is kinda disrespectful because books are supposed to be read by people and if someone put that book only for decoration it's an insult to the creator. unless the books that's on the unreachable shelf is a Fake book then maybe it's okay.

looks good, doesn't work. Without a proper place to lean your back or rest your elbow, you'll get tired very soon and become uncomfortable. Also, 90% of the visitors looks like only there to take selfies too.

The saddest part is that no one came there to read but to take pictures only. 😕
It adds more appeal to the place of business now looking so futuristic! I can’t wait to visit it one day... ✨📚📖

it looks more like a showpiece than an actual utilitarian functional place
Looks like most people visit this library to have a look at it's architecture rather than reading.
I wish I could be there I LOVE READING

I don't like modern libraries only the ones with old architecture.
So many people with no imagination or patience is so quick to criticize and judge. This "foyer" of the library is an artistic design which is meant to stimulate people's imagination, the functional part of the library with books for reading is inside the foyer.
I would love to spend my all day in that library
Lovely video
My perfect library has warm orange lights, wooden structures, the smell of old books and quiet.
Why read books when you can climb books
Awesome place
The Citadel. Sam would have loved this. 😀
Looks cool, not sure how it will age with time. This video did inspire me to want to visit the US Library of Congress.
When i noticed some books are but fake? Well' It became much less impressive. But.....still very cool! Any place that houses books has my love and appreciation.
Omg!!!!! I want to go this library
now, that's heaven😍
I just come here just taking pictures and selfies

Because of a recent visit to Asia l've decide to share my travel experiences in hope of inspiring others to travel and see for themselves... In 1965 I left for Ghana with less than $300 in my pocket; to answer the call from Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to African-Americans, to come and help in the rebuilding of Africa. Five (5) months after my arrival Dr: Kwame Nkrumah’s government was overthrown which was a heartbreakers to many expatriates and caused many changes of plans… And moment of panic for some. As for me, I was adopted by an Ashanti-Paramount Chief, Nana kwaku Duah; Agogo-hene, (1966) and given the name “Kojo Acheampong” than adoptive into one of his sub-chiefs clan, Nana Otteng, and spent the next eleven (11) years in Ghana, often traveling to Togo and the Ivory Coast to market my jewelry, which I carved from cow-horns and ivory (a skill I was taught by traditional craftsmans) after immersing myself in the customs and culture. On my return to the United States in 1976, I was able to contribute to the growing interest in African art and culture. Now in my senior years (86+) and on the suggestion (& insistence) of my adopted family, I’ve decide to take them up on their; “Uncle; you should come back to Ghana and enjoy with us, that which you’ve enable us make possible. “ IT WAS A BORN AGAIN EXPERIENCE Details here: www.amazon.com/Curtis-James-Morrow/e/B074TWSKKW?ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_3&qid=1566355782&sr=1-3 Please enjoy, share and leave comments.
its like a dream come true 😍😍😍
I wanna go there..... to sleep (looks comfortable honestly)
Wow !
Even a failure would top the exam if, he is given as amazing study environment as this library provides.
Damnnnnn ... so niceeee !!!! But where is the tables to do research or doing some works ??
I wish my library in school is like this😢
I want to be a librarian there 😍
Great and neat concept for the shelves👍 It would be even better if it was made with the readers in mind though... I wouldn't want to read here, out in the open with lots of people, unless there's not a lot of people. No privacy, crowded, distractions, not cozy enough to get lost in a book. Unless there were no other people, then maybe I couldd enjoy reading here.
There would be a prospect of having rare books safely up top so with gear you could climb your way there, I would go for that! But then the occasional drop of sweat would not be appreciated below, so maybe a climbing gym idea.
Now you know what future looks like!
Good Luck finding the book you want
What classification system they use to this collections?
I wanna go there and read books it was my dream
I don't think that this type of library is perfect for reading books. It's a tourist attraction. People who love to read books will not love this type of library 🙂Whatever I am from Bangladesh. This library is beautiful and exceptional ❤❤❤

Its a place where i would really like to visit..but its not a place where i would really like to read .. I imagine how good it would be if instead of that globe, theres a huge tree under which ppl can actually sit and ready ...
The thing I now want to know the most is what is the music being used? How is that not even included in the credits?
impractical uncomfortable but modern design makes it look flamboyant.

What I would give to be a worker there😍
initially, they wanted to place real books on all the shelves, but decided not to waste so much books on those unreachable shelves. Those high up books are all mock books. always it all look pretty grand.
well i dont know about you but i for one have never dreamed about this but who knows i might now
And how do you get the books on the top?
And then an earthquake happens and all the books fall down
When you realise all the books are probably in Chinese.... *sigh*
I want to go there
You try to give the video more brightness it will be great if you do
The symbolism...
China is amazing
What is the name of this library?
The central library in St. Louis Missouri USA, designed by Cass Gilbert and built in 1907, is much more beautiful and infinitely more impressive. Modern architecture, with cheap material disguised by its use of odd angles and different shapes, is still just that, cheap.
How do they dust this place?
I wish I was their....
Ohh I'm shocked nobody had left book in hand but smart phon in every hand
