You Can Climb A 'Book Mountain' In This Gigantic Library In China

This library is a book lover's dream come true.
The Tianjin Binhai Library, Tianjin, China.
33,700 square meters. Five levels. Enough shelf space for 1.2 million books.
It was completed by Dutch architecture firm MVRDV and local architects from the Tianjin Urban Planning and Design Institute.
It's nicknamed "The Eye."
"The angles and curves are meant to stimulate different uses of the space, such as reading, walking, meeting and discussing. Together they form the 'eye' of the building: to see and be seen." - Winy Maas, Co-founder of MVRDV
There's a giant globe in the center of the library. It has an auditorium hidden inside.
The climbable shelving acts as a "book mountain."
But there's a catch...
Not all of the books are real.
You can find a lot of books in other reading spaces beyond the main atrium space. There are sections geared for children and education.
The library has become a tourist hot spot since opening in 2017. It begs for the perfect Instagram photo.

Guys.I'm a local there and I'll explain a few questions. The bookshelves you see are fake but the books are mainly located at floors above,up to 5 floors. Those floors above provide a cozier place, not the whitish style on the first floor

@@xingkaiwang8230 Its an amazing building but the photos of books is so unnecessary. Why don't use real books, even if they are not accessible. It would look 1000 better and the cost for that expensive building should not be an issue.

It's nice architecture, but I would never feel comfortable enough in there to relax and read a book. A library should be a warm, cozy, intimate environment, not a cold, sterile, open atrium.

I don't know if this library is good or bad but from my prepective, seeing a book that's put on shelf that cannot be reached is kinda disrespectful because books are supposed to be read by people and if someone put that book only for decoration it's an insult to the creator. unless the books that's on the unreachable shelf is a Fake book then maybe it's okay.

Because of a recent visit to Asia l've decide to share my travel experiences in hope of inspiring others to travel and see for themselves... In 1965 I left for Ghana with less than $300 in my pocket; to answer the call from Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to African-Americans, to come and help in the rebuilding of Africa. Five (5) months after my arrival Dr: Kwame Nkrumah’s government was overthrown which was a heartbreakers to many expatriates and caused many changes of plans… And moment of panic for some. As for me, I was adopted by an Ashanti-Paramount Chief, Nana kwaku Duah; Agogo-hene, (1966) and given the name “Kojo Acheampong” than adoptive into one of his sub-chiefs clan, Nana Otteng, and spent the next eleven (11) years in Ghana, often traveling to Togo and the Ivory Coast to market my jewelry, which I carved from cow-horns and ivory (a skill I was taught by traditional craftsmans) after immersing myself in the customs and culture. On my return to the United States in 1976, I was able to contribute to the growing interest in African art and culture. Now in my senior years (86+) and on the suggestion (& insistence) of my adopted family, I’ve decide to take them up on their; “Uncle; you should come back to Ghana and enjoy with us, that which you’ve enable us make possible. “ IT WAS A BORN AGAIN EXPERIENCE Details here: www.amazon.com/Curtis-James-Morrow/e/B074TWSKKW?ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_3&qid=1566355782&sr=1-3 Please enjoy, share and leave comments.

Great and neat concept for the shelves👍 It would be even better if it was made with the readers in mind though... I wouldn't want to read here, out in the open with lots of people, unless there's not a lot of people. No privacy, crowded, distractions, not cozy enough to get lost in a book. Unless there were no other people, then maybe I couldd enjoy reading here.

What is the name of this library?

The central library in St. Louis Missouri USA, designed by Cass Gilbert and built in 1907, is much more beautiful and infinitely more impressive. Modern architecture, with cheap material disguised by its use of odd angles and different shapes, is still just that, cheap.
