    The sound of a Super on a nice bridge pickup in a minor key is as crushingly confrontational as life itself.

    I think you've run into the issue that many players have after being around top-end equipment as long as you have, in that everything becomes a flavor really rather than good or bad(because yes they're all great). To me the tone here is unbelievable, it sounds right off a classic record you've worn out after spinning too many times. For instance, I think it would be fun to compare this to a monoprice, or a budget Fender/Bugera/Supro amp just to remind yourself how truly awesome some of the gear you have at your fingertips is. Content is fabulous and well produced as always! Cheers.

    ❤️ And yes I'm very spoiled at this point. But that's sort of the point of this series in the first place. A decent but still cheap tube amp is going to be close to 1k. Save up a bit more and you can have this professional grade amp, the super is an absolute bargain!

  • @goodun2974

    @goodun2974

    Ай бұрын

    It's best to leave the monster, high-power amps to those who really need them for larger gigs, those who are most suited to own them. Not great for older folks like myself with a bad back and who doesn't play out ---- I can fix big amps but owning anything more than 15 watts is wasted on my mediocre at home playing . On the other hand, my wife and I have mostly owned giant dogs; we like giant dogs and are used to them and know how to train them, but they are best left to experienced dog owners like ourselves (there's a video of them on my channel). We're also getting older, which means that in the future any dogs we adopt will have to be 50 pounds or less...

    Although the Super at my GC turned out ti be a 90s reissue , this series of vids has me really thinking hard about getting a pre 75 Super, i do need a “classic” Fender amp of some kind, more amp for home/studio than any one needs but the tone of these is the best imo even at low volumes , the 4x10 and BF/SF circuits just is wonderful…. Can I justify it as a at home amp to compliment my Marshall?😅 liked the sounds even without the cab and needed cap and resistor replacements, thanks for this series of repair/demo tubes!

  • @YeatzeeGuitar

    @YeatzeeGuitar

    Ай бұрын

    I've been struggling with a high noise floor on both of my blackface fenders. They're not, as far as I can tell, a great design for super quiet operation. The first thing to determine is if it's hum or hiss. Hum being a harmonic of the wall voltage. From there you can start pull tubes and seeing where the noise goes away. That will give you some clues on the problem area.

    @@YeatzeeGuitar, Did you try undoing the heater-circuit wiring string and checking with a multimeter to see if all of the Preamp tubes are fed from the same AC phase? Pull all the tubes and disconnect at least one of the green heater wires from the transformer at the 6L6's, and start continuity checking with the meter. There's a valid reason why people building their own amplifiers often used twisted heater wiring made up with 2 different color wires, so they can phase all the tubes correctly.

When they oxidize no control cleaner truly removes all of the tarnish,, And silver oxide functions as a semiconductor diode. A pencil eraser or preferably an ink eraser that has a slight amount of pumice or silica grit is really good for polishing metal contacts

    sounds ok, not my kind of guitar sound but I'm not really a reverb guy, I guess I might appreciate it more if I was into surf type music

    @@YeatzeeGuitar Well, you did ask for people's opinions but sounds like you've already decided that it has good tone. As long as you're happy with it then that's the main thing. I think it sounds ok, I have amps that I prefer the sound of, but I'm not that into that kind of overdrive or reverb sound so that's part of it. Like you say, we all have our preferences.

    What I would like to know is why can't we make the new amps sound as good or better then the old amp's, Why can't we recreate this in a new amp. Is this why people are moving towards Modelling ? I have a Catalyst 200W 2x12 Combo Amp but listening to this amp wow not even close...

    Combination of everything. Old speakers old transformers, old resistors, old caps etc. I think a part of it is also how a lot of parts are out of spec today, so you could make a perfect clone using the schematic but it won't sound the same as one that's been around for 60 years regardless

    This sounds super ok to me. It might sound better with humbuckers, but this is just not a good sound to me. The gain staging in this amp just does not inspire me at all. Pale in comparison to a vox for me.
