I am almost 17 years of age by the time im writing this. My mom used to sing this when i was a child, from the day i was born till around my 13th birthday, after that it only happened a few times, the times i needed it the most. When i hear this it lowers my stress level, it makes me relax, it make my faith grow stronger. This song reminds me of my mother's love, and i wish everyone gets to experience that love someday by another person❤ If any mom is reading this, i wish you'd do the same as my mother did, by singing this lullaby to your children during their hardest times, it really means alot to us❤❤

My mother died 5 years ago. And my sunshine did go.away. ps hey Bob Sherman Hill. I did love tony!! U pushed me right 2 him And you were my sunshine garvey.

I was born with deafness and tinnitus, my Grandmother Fannie used to sing this song and hold my head against her chest to feel the vibration of her voice. My deafness was corrected with surgery. What I learned about my Grandmother was her first husband died in a mining accident when she was 19 and left widowed with an infant. I honestly believed she sang this song about him. I can hardly fight back the tears when I hear this song and think of her.

My dad used to sing this to me today when I was little and I sang it with him as I got older. He died when I was 12 and everyday I cry and the first thing I thought of when I got the news was “my sunshine..” I was depressed for a while and my grades dropped but I knew I had to be strong for him so I pulled through my eighth grade year and now I’m freshman trying my hardest for him everyday

Like most people my mom used to sing this to me, unlike most people my mom died unexpectedly when I was 16, I remember when I found out that she died, how I was being taken care of by my youth pastor, and how he had this music box that played this song, and how I sat alone in a small room playing it over and over again thinking about all the good times I had with my mom as I cried and cried. Not long after, I met the love of my life, I remembered playing this for her on my guitar and her humming as I softly cried.

When I was little, I used to be foster care... The first time I ever went to a real foster family, I wrote this song down on a sticky note. They still have it, and I am adopted by them. We get along well, and once in a while I'll still sing this to them. They cry it's so lovely 💗

I would sing it to my son when he was very sick. I almost lost him . His liver and kidneys were not working anymore but thanks to God my son is still here with me.

All I could imagine in my head was holding a baby in my arms singing this while rocking them to sleep and it made me tear up a little. I hope I get to be a dad one day.

I became a dad for the first time last September. When my mom would come and watch my son, she would shears sing this song to him. It drove me nuts. Then one day, I found myself singing this song to him without even knowing it. Funny how that works, isn’t it? 😊😊

A few months ago, my little brother passed away, only one week old, from Trisomy 18 syndrome. As he was laying in my mother's arms, she asked us all to join together and sing this song. I sung this to my baby 1 year old neice while she was taking her final breaths... she died May 8th 2019 on my moms birthday and in my arms... Her name was Georglyn. She was born weighing only 2.5 pounds. She was very special from the start being named after her grandmothers Georgina and Evelyn. She was born almost all the way blind and she couldnt hear very well. She was also a special needs baby and couldnt eat properly so she had to have a feeding tube. She was the cutest thing ever. I love and miss her so much

My son is currently 19 months old and has been listening to this song since she was about 4 months old. My late mother used to sing this to me and I sang it to my son while I was pregnant. For some reason he loves Jasmine's voice more than mine but it's ok, her voice reminds me of my momma's.

I know nobody wants to hear this, but this song means so much to me. It was me and my dog Legend's favorite song. I used to sing this to him, and I just knew he loved it. We grew up together, and I cant believe it's only been 7 months since he's passed. October 11th, the day after my birthday. I had to move away, and I couldnt be there with my baby. And I hate myself for that, even if it was out of my control. He was like a son to me. And I love him so much. I miss him more than anything. I would give the world just to tell him goodbye, and that I live him so much. But, I cant. And I'll never get the chance to. It really sucks. Cherish your pets, be nice to your siblings, and love your parents. Life is really hard right now, but if we stick together, we will be fine..

when your mom has 5 miscariges, and she calls you your sunshine ... its hard ... its hard to try and make her proud ... Specially when i lived with a abusive father for the first 15 years of my life ... some lose faith ... but after 33 years ... I'm not giving up ... gotta push on ...

Im soo sorry for your loss my grandma she never sang this song for me but i saw her in her death bed when i was 6 she was in a coma and i sometimes to this day wish she was still here

I'm truly truly sorry she died, I have an incredible amount of love for mine and if she died I think it would take years to enjoy a lot of the things I still do with her at 21 years old, she also sang this song to me as a child

My grandma sang me this song from as far back as I could remember, til she passed in 2015…. I bought a blanket that has “you are my sunshine on it for her” and now sing this to my own babies 😭💕

To all who suffered loss, deepest condolences! May the sun shine upon you for the rest of your days.

This was mine and my fiance's song. He has alcohol issues so I had to leave him. He was a beautiful man with a great heart. I wish he could leave his addiction. I love him with all my heart. And all I can pray to God " please don't take my sunshine away "

I grew up on this song and I’m 64 years old and I can honestly say yours is the best version I have ever heard ❤❤❤❤

My mom used to sing this to me as a baby and young girl this evening I really miss her. She's currently fighting for her life in hospital. This song really comforts me and reminds me of a time when all was well.

My mother died with Breast Cancer last 2018 at a young age and I am 16 yrs old that time, she fights cancer for 3 yrs and I realized that she's a warrior, a real warrior, she's so strong, and she is my SUNSHINE ☺️ my angel in heaven♥️

Tomorrow is my son's birthday - he passed 14 years ago - this was the song I sang to him when he was little and again in my shock and grief the day he passed 💔 Thank you for this beautiful version 😢

I understand your loss. O lost my son 4 yrs ago. It's much different than any other loss when you lose your child. You aren't supposed to bury your children. Blessings to you.

my grandma used to sing this to me and the heartache of her being gone, is like an open wound, every time I hear this song. she's gone almost 20 years now and I more than miss her still.

I used to sing this to my lovely cat. He was the best gift I have ever had. He is an angel. And right now he is resting in paradise, I can't help but cry to this song.

I think ur a german girl, so i write in my motherlanguage: Ich kann absolut nachempfinden wie es dir geht, mein Opa ist vor 3 Jahren verstorben und es fühlt sich an wie gestern, es tut einfach nur weh. Ich habe das Lied gerade per Zufall auf insta gefunden in Art einer Spieluhr. Ich konnte es mir nicht verkneifen sie zu kaufen für den Geburtstag meiner Mutter, ich musste mir gerade als ich deinen Beitrag gelesen habe die ein oder andere Träne verdrücken. My mom used to sing this to me when I was little, when we had a good relationship. Now, I'm only 14 years old but we don't have a good relationship anymore. She never comes to say goodnight to me or listens to me or my interests, but I still wish I could hear her sing this to me again and have a happy relationship with her. My husband honestly thought that I made this song up, because he'd never heard it before he met me. I sang it to my now 5yo daughter and when the twins (3yos) came along I sang it to them. I change the "my only" to one of my sunshines, so they're all included. We're now 2 months away from welcoming another precious little one, and the kiddos help me sing this to the baby. 🥰❣️ Your voice is so very beautiful thank you for sharing. 😍

My son died 3yrs ago and every time i sing this i cry as if he died yesterday my first born

I’ve sang this to all 3 of my kids. Not often, but when they went through hard times or was sick. I love it.

I played this for my grandmother two nights ago while she was passing away. I’ll never forget it. This song/this version is so sacred to me.

Finally someone did it right. It is not a happy song.

My music teacher taught us this song She only taught us a small potion, and said that the song was meant to cheer you up I didn't know it was sad at first, but when I found the real song, and heard the whole thing, I couldn't stop the tears people mistake this song for being happy, and I don't like it The true meaning behind this song; The song describes the singer's love for a person, saying that they are their sunshine, that is the thing that lights their life. However, the person doesn't know of the singer's love That is the meaning behind this song, but people think it's happy Johnny Cash meant for this to be a sad song, and I only hope that more people could understand that Jasmine Thompson really did understand this song (Sorry, this is way longer than i wanted it to be)
