My dad worked at a furniture factory for years where they paid by production not by hour. New management wanted them to take time away from their work to clean the bathrooms without a pay raise or paying them by the hour because they didn’t want to hire custodians. Several people protested and were fired, my dad worked there for over a decade but now he works for a smaller luxury furniture shop where he’s treated right and is paid handsomely by the hour.

8:48 "Making the firing manager's job easier..." That happened at a movie theater I worked at in the Long Ago, and Far Away. In a lull, in front of most of the closing concessions staff, the hiring/firing manager told us, "I need to lose 6 people." We were all, Okay...? No one thought anything of it. Summer would be over soon, most of us wouldn't be as available when school started again, fewer hours would be fine. There was a rotating closing staff of about 13 of us, and most of us went to Denny's after we wrapped up for the night to eat and have social time. So we were actually work friends. Some of us spent more than that time socially outside of work too, but that was only about 1/3 of us. About a week later, he fired 3 people... IN that one week. NOW we all took him seriously, and those who didn't want to be caught jobless went out and found a new job. I was one of them. The hiring manager started looking glum. "What's wrong?" I asked him, already on my 2 weeks' notice. "I only needed to lose 6 people, and I lost 10. Now I have to hire and train more staff..." I was thinking, 'Well, you're the dumb butt who mentioned in front of most of the closing staff you needed to lose people. This is a mess entirely of your own making...' Didn't =say= that to him, but seriously. Hope he learned to not say crap like that in front of his staff ever again. The head manager did invite me into his office and asked me if I'd be willing to stay on. Told him the truth: got hired by UPS for twice the wage (or just about), for fewer hours. He realized there would be no competing with that.

I work as a virtual assistant under a BPO company, our client company decided to hire our team directly. When we received our new contract we found out that not only that there are no changes on our salary, they also removed our benefits. We got pissed and refused to sign the contract and client company was confused as to why. Fast forward several months, the client company informs us that we either sign the contract or they will let us go. Since we want to keep our jobs we decided to bear it and just agree to sign, this is where found out that the client revised the contact; 100% pay increase plus allowance and benefits. Turns out the upper management of the client company had no idea about the contents of the previous contract because the CFO kept them out of the loop.

A very long time ago, I worked at a call center. Crappy job, crappy pay. Management overheard one employee complaining to another, decided that they were the reason everyone was upset, and fired them. When people continued to complain, they decided the entire shift was bad and fired everyone. Unfortunately, someone misunderstood in HR, though whether on purpose or on accident, and fired *all* of the shifts. They went from one shift short...that they figured they could schedule other employees for...to no shifts. I don't want to know how much they lost, but I heard that the major company they did business with cancelled the contract because they didn't have enough staff to deal with the call volume. I was hired as an admin two weeks later at twice the pay and I laughed when they called to try to get me to come back.

The IT/tech assembly manager at a software/hardware company was embezzling money by sending servers to new sites that didn’t exist and selling the hardware to competitors. Normally this would only get him alone fired but he was using other employees names and IDs without their knowledge and had them dragged into the investigation. The others weren’t fired for being a part of it, but instead were fired for the MASSIVE brawl that ensued in the company shipping department when the shipping manager decked the IT manager for using his name and everyone jumped in to take sides.

I worked at a large family owned RV dealership as a salesperson. They had about 25-30 sales people. Well most of their sales was done via internet. I had worked there about two years. I had noticed our website went down. We had a staff of IT specialist who all they did was computer stuff in the “IT room”. Well I came in on Monday the website wasn’t up and it was down all day Sunday and into Monday which was really odd cause 1. Our IT team was really good and 2. Monday we had weekly meetings which our sales team would go over sales and different promotions for that week. So I tell the sales manager nicely our website out. He said “I know we will all have a meeting about it later.” So couple hours goes by.all the salespeople into the conference room. The two owners come in. You could tell they were upset by their faces. I thought sales were down and we were gonna yelled at. However, I was number two in the company for sales. So they put a picture of a server on the overhead projector. The one owner said “does anyone know anything about this.” I’m think huh what? He said on Saturday evening this (the computer server) was stolen out of the IT room. If anyone worked Saturday please come to the front of the room. I stood up walked to the front.(keep in mind in the course of 2 years I had only been back to the IT room maybe 3-4 times when the company laptop was goofing up). Now he said. We have a thief among these “salespeople “. There was 22 of the 25 salespeople at the front of the room. He said who wants to admit to stealing the server. No one says anything. I could tell the one owner getting more worked up because no one said one word. I’m looking around to see if anyone stepping forward or saying anything. Then the upset owner said “alright I’m giving the thief 30 seconds to turn themselves in or I’m firing everyone who worked Saturday.” He waited 30 seconds . Again nothing was said. He said “alright if you worked Saturday clean out your cube and get out of here. “ So literally the owner fired 20 plus people for nothing.

Worked at a mini restroom franchise (2 shops in town) the general manager fired one of the most experienced line cooks, because she felt he was unreliable, then decided the staff was taking too many smoking/vaping breaks; she gathered us all together for a meeting and carefully explained how our smoke breaks were bad for business, and how they were ending, effective immediately. There was another line cook starring at her and smiling the whole time, he put in his two week notice right there. She tried taking it back, but it was already too late. This led to kitchen staff only having only two line cooks left. The district manager had to start filling in for missing staff. The kitchen manager quit shortly after, and I quit as soon as I got another job TLDR: Restaurant General Manager loses half her staff trying to cut costs with smoking breaks

Worked the day shift in a warehouse for a year and a half, left when COVID got bad, then came back on the overnight shift. Pay had increased and the hours were less, which most people didn't like, but I liked fine because I wanted the least amount of hours to reduce my chances of getting sick. Anyway. 3 months in, they buy some expensive new equipment and force us all to learn how to use it. In some ways it increases safety, but in others it's clunky and harder to use, and reduces output slightly. A month later, I get a missed call at home from a guy in a random department. The message only says he wants to pass on some info, he'll call again later. No urgency implied, no hint that anything might be wrong, no idea that this will impact my day at all, so I ignore it. I go to work that day, the warehouse is closed. I call the front desk, get a message saying all shifts are canceled, workers will be paid, await further updates. Just over a week later I get a letter saying my job has been eliminated because they're converting the warehouse into a tech-focused one. There were around 30 people doing the same job on that shift, and maybe twice that many on day shift, so that sucks.

We had to sign a document saying we would not drink water. A worker took an unopened bottle out of the garbage, and got fired. They also discovered this was not the first time. They reviewed camera footage and fired two other workers who gave her water bottles that were unopened and about to be put into the garbage because they felt sorry for her drinking it out of the garbage can. One member of management stood up for them to no avail. Instead of revoking the no water policy, they added it to the handbook. Not some poor little struggling company either. Multi billion dollar a year casino. The workers were on 12 hour shifts. They cannot figure out why no one wants to work there anymore. SMH

I've seen two, both in restaurants where I worked. The first one was when someone got into the labor report. It showed how much each person on the clock was being paid. They then printed the weekly report showing how much everyone was. They posted it in the employee bathroom. There was heavy favoritism with the managers and it showed in the amount they paid the staff. About half the staff quit within a day. At another the bar manager was hooking up with one of the waitresses. They had a blowout which everyone could hear. Including her boyfriend, who was a cook. He jumped in the middle of it and the manager fired him. One of the other cooks asked why he was fired for being mad because his boss was screwing his girlfriend. It seemed like a normal response. That cook immediately quit. The manager then started getting angry because the third, and final, cook on line (Me) was talking too long with the orders despite having to do the work of three people. I walked out. They closed for the night. The next day several people from corporate were there to try and fix things. The bar manager was fired, the GM was transferred, the waitress quit, the three cooks who quit also never came back. Over the next week they lost several other people who didn't want to deal with the drama and stress.

12:49 Reminds me of a temp job at this rubber and gasket manufacturing plant (owned by a big corp. in India as I found out later) that I had for ten days across a three week period (2 days on then 4th of July, four day work week, building maintenance then another four day work week). Operations manager went almost four days without speaking to me. Was rude, condescending and offered no tips. Reminded me a lot of my dad in terms of how he looked, so I didn’t like him back on basis of my dad and I weren’t getting along. I think he had me summarily fired by my temp agency because I wasn’t meeting numbers on my machine. This place abided by a real if you can’t hang, bang, you’re gone mentality. 3:50 was the one that moved the manager? 12:50 if im not scheduled to work im not on call, if you want me on call youre paying me overtime rates. if you want me working then it should have been on the schedule. a lot of companies pulled things like this when several states jumped the min wage to $15, this is doubling the min wage in a lot of states btw. hours were cut to the point people were making the same or less and of course prices went up to "make up for the rise in wages." but there is good news, several companies had 2 week internships where you were guaranteed full time after 14 days...... so people were getting fired at 13 days and "rehired" either at the same or another location.

It’s always an issue when I see these videos and there always comments that don’t answer the original question, but this one makes me particularly annoyed. We couldn’t even get past the first comment, which was in no way answering the original question. What is it with people and not understanding what’s being asked? If you can’t answer it properly then don’t answer at all. Edit: so after watching the whole thing, you want to know how many replies actually answered the question? 9. Only 9 of them. How is r/Askreddit this braindead?
