He's always seemed to have that african thing happening in his playing, Phil Seaman I think introduced Ginger to that feel and it informed his stuff, one of the early fussionists.

The technique that Ginger Baker is using on this Yoruba drum reminds me of the Brazilian repinique, which is played with a short stick and the opposing hand.
