YOB "Hometown" Pt 2: Mike Scheidt Traces Roots of Band's Unique Doom Sound:
Музыка
YOB's Mike Scheidt has lived his whole life in Oregon, and nearly lost it there, too. From growing up as a bullied outsider to finding his place as a respected doom-metal innovator - as heard on the band's epic new album Our Raw Heart - the experiences have shaped him into the man he is today: a rebel with open arms. We joined him at home and at the McKenzie River Music store where he used to work to get a lesson in his creative evolution, particularly how country swing plays into his style. Watch episode two of our three-part documentary above.

Man, it bums me out that someone as cool as Mike had to suffer like he did. His musical ability is such a reward. Glad I discovered YOB for myself.
How couldn't parents be proud of such a humble genius

right?
I could listen to Mike narrate the most boring thing in the world and still be captivated. Such an incredible tone to his voice. Can't wait to see them next week.
I just started listening to YOB because of these interviews. Never knew I liked them.

100%. One of the few bands that you could start anywhere with and not find a bad record.

I just discovered this band and I’m blown away. I love the fact he’s not just metal but a student of all genres of music.
Was just introduced to YOB, and I decided to make the drive from El Paso TX to Albuquerque to see them in June, I can tell it’s going to be life changing

Y’all should stay after the show and meet Mike, I met him last year and plan to again. He’s a very nice person to talk to.
Townes Van Zant....huge thumbs up bro!!!!!!
This man gets it. Really digging this.
Got into yob because mike gave me a copy of his first yob album at McKenzie music where he worked. I walked in looking for a guitar pedal and he gave me a copy of yob. Well, I didn't think much of it until I listened to it like 20 times in a week. It was a different sound and Eugene has embraced this culture of music. Its a perfect type of music for this city. The wow hall and other small venues embrace the bands the sound different yet eugene is a world of its own from country boys to hippies it definitely is a crazy place at times but its my home. Its very diverse but exciting.
Same here, thankful for the support my mom gave me. Which was the same thing, she took me snd picked me up from shows, and bought me cds. Like he said, she didn't understand it but still supported even in small ways. My dad still doesn't understand, but I think he's slowly grasping why I love the music I do. Such a great band!
such a cool, humble dude, YOB are a fantastic band and I came pretty late into Doom and also in trying to teach myself how to play guitar as well. I think he really is right in trying out different musical styles, techniques, it helps you grow your musical vocabulary, but also yourself as a person: learn to appreaciate other styles, have another view on things and so forth.
YOB is such an excellent example of great American metal. Thank you Mike.
This is so inspiring....thank you Mike, Travis and Aaron for your beautiful music.
Such a good guy. I've been lucky to have met him, so glad people like him are making such amazing music
been listening to yob for a while but this pushed me over the edge to support them however I can. buy the records. get a t shirt or two. great band.
Mike is a great guy. I've only seen Yob twice but both times he was a fantastic person. Very sweet.

Real cool guy. Much respect.
God if any band captures the ethereal vibe of Oregon.
This makes me respect Sheidt even more. I can totally relate.
Did he just say he learned from Bill Harkleroad, aka Zoot Horn Rollo of Captain Beefheart's Magic Band?? Absolutely did not see that one coming but I can sort of see it in his playing. So cool
Bolt thrower. Nice.

O man! Great man! But those cookies 🍪 - I WANT IT!!!
Small town life sucks when you are different. Growing up in the early '80's listening to metal and being smaller than my piers meant being picked on alot. Jr. High sucked for me, being shoved into lockers, constant bullying.....until one day i said fuck this and i one punched a jock square in the nose and broke it. Shit stopped immediately after that. Mike, i can totally relate.
I didn’t know the was a part two.
ayy ese i need a yob
Wasn’t there supposed to be 3 parts to this?
At 0:30 forward I get a real chuck schuldiner vibe from mike

Very important that parents support their kids' interests. If they try to supress it, I imagine that's what creates real screw ups

Fuck man, I love YOB, then they split up. Then I was stoked about MIDDIAN, before all the legal crap and had to break up. But then YOB got back together and it was all good again :D
