I am African, and I just learned about the Garifuna people today. I'm glad I did. It's like finding your long-lost family members. Even though they're all the way in Central America, they've still maintained a large part of their African roots. I'm happy to learn about them. I hope to visit Hondurus, Belize, Guatemala, and Nicaragua one day.

Girl same here am African aswell from Ecuatorial guinea I speak Spanish too cause my country were colonized by Spain ! ...the culture, even the dialogue sounds so African!!!! is like us Ecuatorial guineans we speak Spanish but we have our dialogues !! I have also learned so much trough this video i didn’t even know some black people in Latin America they still have present there African culture this much this is beautiful !!

I hope this community will live on and thrive, to conserve so much is wonderful. May they be blessed always.

They originally from st .Vincent. The entire Caribbean are afro carib mix.The language cane from the Caribbean. They the only ones that preserve the culture.

Que orgullo ser hondureña. Mi padre era 💯 garifuna y mi madre blanca pero siempre me identifico mas con la sangre de mi padre. Amos mis raices y me encanta bailar punta desde chiquita, esos niños me recuerdan a mi niñes.

Pero los garifunas siempre pasan con esa riña de envidia y mucho racismo con litros nos dicen esos indios como por bulla,y en una colonia que viví los mosquitos y garifunas se dedican a robar asta los jabones

Thanks for uploading this. I recently just discovered the Garifuna culture .I’m originally from Ghana 🇬🇭 but American. The Machucha is similar to what we call plantain fufu, which is also served with soup as well. We even use the mortar and pestle too !!! Beautiful culture ✊🏾😊

What is mortar. And I just learn that you guys mix the plantains and the yuca to make fufu and I was like wow who knew. YOU guys basically make hodutú which is the máchuca the smash plantain in the video and mix it with cassava. AMAZING

Hi sis , yes we do , we call it Fufu and we eat it with soup. We pound the fufu in a mortar ( wooden pot ) and pestle😊

Lo que mas me gusta de mis paisanos hondureños garifunas es que por muy duro que haya sido su pasado en la esclavitud siempre fueron fuertes y orgullosos de su lengua jamás la perdieron y su lengua se perdió en África cosa que muchos grupos de las comunidades negras a nivel internacional aprendieron la lengua de su master y perdieron la suya propia,este me dice que los que perdieron su lengua fueron esclavos,y los que no la perdieron nunca lo fueron,mis respetos y SALUDOS desde FRANCIA de un profesor de boxeo hondureño,de planes Colón

+TresCubano we have this machuca stuff here in ghana, but we call it fufu. we donnt used the raw plantain, we used it to mix cassava to give it a yellow colour.This peoples are really from africa

Garifuna culture is born from the mixture of Arawaco Indians from South America mixed with Caribbean natives. They populated many Caribbean Islands where they later mixed with African slaves who encased on the Island of Saint Vincent called in their language as YURUMAIN. From there after bloody fighting against French and English slavers where their leader Joseph Satuye stands out for his fighting and triumphs; they are expelled by the British crown and sent to the Island of Port Royal and then to Bay Islands and the mainland on the coasts of Honduras from where they spread to Nicaragua, Guatemala and Belize.
