    Throwing the money is a tradition at Nigerian weddings, it's called "spraying'. It's not a strip club thing, it's traditional. Nigerians have two weddings, the first one is the traditional/cultural wedding and the second one is the 'white wedding', The one you are seeing now. I would say react to a traditional wedding too, you see all the culture which is different depending on the tribe. If you don't have a traditional wedding in some form, the people back home won't recognise the marriage, but if you don't have some form of 'white/western' wedding even if just registry office, the west won't recognise it either. that's why there are two. There is also the introduction before all of this where the man and his family ask for the ladies hand in marriage from the girl and her parents. There are processes to getting married properly in Nigerian culture, although they bend the rules to accommodate modern living.

  • @golderp

    @golderp

    What are you talking about? You can have just the traditional one or the ‘white’ one or both depending on your pocket. That your talk about some people not recognising your choice of wedding is BS.

  • @golderp

    @golderp

    3 жыл бұрын

    Be Inspired Your rant is a little bit incoherent. It’s either you don’t know how to express yourself or you are just simply confused. I don’t know what type of Yoruba are you because I am Yoruba myself. We can have only ONE wedding and go to church and term it “White” and wear traditional dresses when we get back home and that’s the wedding all done and completed. No one requires 2 weddings from anybody so I don’t know where all of you fake Yorubas got your instructions from. Who is not recognising my wedding because I didn’t go home and do a second wedding? BS

  • @sylviasworld9397

    @sylviasworld9397

    @@golderp if you don't do traditional rites the people back home in your village don't recognize it. That noone "came knocking" or introduction, no elder or parents said yes or no and also you have done no traditional rites? That's why some people only do traditional first and the white wedding later or even on the same day. If you are not an elder you may not be privy to traditional stuff that was performed. If you live in the west your traditional wedding is not what they recognise. There are documents to sign which mean you are legally married.

  • @sylviasworld9397

    @sylviasworld9397

    @@golderp yes but there would be traditional rites performed even if merged into one ceremony. Would the grooms family not perform the traditional side? To ask your parents by coming to them with elders if the family to tell them they've "seen a flower in their garden they want to pluck?" Parents don't just out of the blue get an invitation to their child's wedding. I'm Igbo but my sister married a Yoruba guy. The family came to our house and did the traditional part even dowry. This was in London.

I'll give suggestions for Yoruba, Hausa/Fulani, Edo and SS if you like. As for lit white weddings and receptions, I'll be back with suggestions for those too.

    African weddings are always over the top; not forgetting that there is the traditional wedding which is then followed by the church wedding. In UG 🇺🇬 we do "Kwanjula" - (introduction ceremony) then the main wedding. Not to forget that there is also dowry to be paid. I once went to a friend's wedding where they rented a fleet of Mercedes-Benz cars for all the guests with a chauffer (2 guests per car) to transport them to and from the church to the venue for the reception / after party and eventually home. In Uganda🇺🇬 we say "Ekitaliyyo Noah teyakisa mulyatto," which translates to "Whatever was not there (at the wedding) then Noah didn't put it in the ark!"
