let me give you another reason, she given her jaw titan to marely and strengthed marley even more, it means putting risk on eldian( historia aswell), its illogical right Another reason, if she dont go with reiner, then marley thinks that how come paradis become this powerful and marley will go with full force towards paradis bcs paradis already killed berthold and captured annie, and also marley punishes berthold, so thays why ymir understand his situatipn and goes with him Tell me marley will go full force to paradis is a point or not (or its illogical) As i mentioned if historia goes to marley, she also gets killed bcs of advantage of royal blood for marleyians, reiner is just a warrior and to save historia it completely depends on marlyian gov, so for sure they will make historia to get eaten to gain the true potential of titan powers Conclusion is ymir didnot even know that historia will be safe in marley or not, she just blindly follow reiner for his deal, At last she sees the eren control over the his founding titan, she feels historia will be safe here and leaves her there, and most importantly bcs of selfless nature she decided to go with reiner. ymir is such a beautifully written character. she's no mikasa or armin but she served her purpose throughout the screen time she got. i was close to tears when she said her final regret was that she never got to marry historia.

Ymir thought that after Reiner and Bert get Eren back to Marley, Marley would quickly come back to kill everyone in the walls. Soo Historia definitely had a better chance of living in Marley if they had taken Eren. Not sure why she went with Reiner and bert and didnt stay with historia tho

Ymir's story is one of the most interesting & confusing in the series. Why was she randomly chosen to pose as a royal? She could have stayed with Historia & survived in the walls for a time. Why choose to sacrifice herself? All this happened in season 2. Am I the only person who felt silly realizing in season 4, Ymir had been dead for 20 episodes? Great video though.

There are a lot of layers to Ymir and Historia and it explains the tragic romance by defining each other as foils for the opposite reasons as displayed in the story. The narration tries to sell Ymir as the bad girl who is selfish and Krista as the saintly girl, but they are both facades. Ymir at her lowest took the blame for being a royal to save others, because it was in her nature to never run from what she did. She is selfless at heart. Krista is living as a martyr because it gives her selfish fulfilment. When Ymir has her monologue in episode 2x 10 (the one in the forest) she says she was the same as Krista because they both lived off lies and that she didnt want to lie to herself anymore. Yes it can be interpreted as the literal lie of being a noble (an inverse of Historia's situation) but she is actually lying to herself by saying she was selfish. So while choosing to die seems like the most irrational choice, she ultimately realizes that she cant truly be happy if she runs to be with Historia. Her love, while genuine, would ultimately selfish if she tried to pursue it as finding a way to be with her would either rob Historia of her future, or the marleyan kids (Reiner, Bert and Annie) of theirs because they would be executed. She chooses death to attone for years of guilt for something that ultimately was never her fault (pretending to be a noble, and eating Marcel). Then we have the beauty in Historia's arc where she learns that she can live a fulfilling life as herself. Being Queen Historia while ultimately a very selfless act gave her the purpose she always wanted. Layers of irony and mirroring each other directly. The fake noble goes out on her own terms and Historia becomes the noble she denied she was through Ymirs legacy. It was a rock and a hard place and staying was the most selflesd thing Ymir could do...

I understood Ymir and Krista really well, but I didnt actually realize she was dead until after. I thought at first Ymir was going to JOIN with the marleyans in some ironic, tragic twist of fate, but killing her offscreen unceremoniously just added to the tragedy for me. She technically was an outlier and should never have had a 2nd shot at life. But by living she changed Historia and helped save Reiner and Bert. Couple this in with a central theme of AOT (to paraphrase Erwin) "Our Lives have meaning because we entrust our succesors to do the same for us" Ymir's 2nd life had value regardless of where it ended.

Her getting a 2nd chance is beautiful. As mean as she was, watching her be reborn is just great. Imagine you were in her shoes. Dealt a bad hand, 99.9% garuntee you'll be a titan, and then she eats a titan shifter by chance and and is human again even if for just 13 years. I bet she felt happy and relieved when she woke up.

Ymir's mean behavior was her way to masquerade her emotions and true intentions, when Connie's village was attacked for example, Ymir started to say things that would annoy him, but she didn't do this to upset him, she did it to distract him so he wouldn't get worried. Ymir does this all the time, she always masquerades her good intentions with sarcasm and roughness.

They were opposites. At her heart Ymir was selfless and pretended to be someone she wasnt- a selfish woman. Krysta tried to be selfless to the extent that she had no idea of who she was. She was so desperate to have a purpose she was a borderline martyr. Loving Krysta, she saw she was trying to be someone she wasnt and decided to be selfless. She gave her life back to the Marleyan kids. Had she gone back to Krysta she would not have been true to herself because it was a selfish decision. Krysta also needed to grow into her own person. Its not a surface level comparison and it looks like Ymir is the selfish one at face valie, but every key moment has Ymir realize the truth. "If it robs her of a future, then so be it" she couldnt rob Historia of her future.

Ymir is one of those characters I've almost forgotten about after not having seen seasons 1 and 2 for a while, but she really is quite fascinating, despite not being there for that long relative to the other characters. Good job on the analysis!

A Jedi who dies either joins the Force and becomes a Force ghost like Obi-Wan or Yoda, or they're just a corpse (unless you count all the contradictory silliness of what happened to Shaak-Ti and her many deaths and desecration of her body in Rebels). Ymir willingly returned a powerful weapon (the Jaw Titan) back to the waiting arms of the enemy, even if it was a weapon she stole from them and she had no right to take it in the first place. Ymir giving the Jaw Titan back to Marley had knock on effects which eventually lead to the Rumbling.

Was so excited to drive home just because of this video.

I still don't understand why Ymir went back to Marley. It makes no sense, she KNEW they would kill her to reclaim the Jaws titan. They told her as much in the trees with Eren. She's so anti-sacrificial because she did it once, to try and protect her "worshippers," which failed miserably. Then she sacrifices herself in the end, for what? I can't figure it out and no explanation seems to explain it.

Great video! People should really watch this due to the amount of people who don't understand her character. One of my favorite scenes is when she put everyone in her mouth and everyone is disgusted except for historia who came out smiling with saliva all over her.

Ymir is one of the selfless characters, she killed one of their friends, and thanks to their plan she became a human after 60 years of knightmare, thanks to it she could meet Historia and her friends, a second chance, she finally lived a life she was proud of, and now Reiner and Berthold would die, the same guys who gave her the second chance, a actual life, a happy life, they gave her... Historia.

Kinda mad she was killed off, she was my favourite alongside Hange and I wish she'd gotten more time with Historia :(

Historia and Ymir have so many parallels with Ymir the Founder that it seems really weird to make it all about Mikasa in the end. I do not even consider a retcon, just bad writing from the very beginning.

Wait why did she choose to go back to Marley? How does that help Historia in any way?

I agree losing Yamir is what made Historia stronger she starts living for her self and making her own decisions in life. Mikasa needs to come to the understanding that she doesn't need Eren, she doesn't have a purpose except to protect Eren, all her life choices involve around Eren. Seeing History let go of the person she loves and stand strong should give her the courage she needs to move on. This is why I find Mikasa disappointing as her character never moves away from Eren needs to be protected mindset. In a way it is stopping her from seeing Eren as he truly is as she is still holding on to the past hoping Eren will come back to her not realising that Eren is long gone. Sorry it's long I hope I explained it well.

@@alyaayedh9551 have read the manga? Because she does realize that and dosent protect him and in fact the one that killed him. Of course in s1-3 she would care eren was in the eye of danger since he's a titan shifter eren is someone important to her just like how historia begged eren and Mikasa to save yimir and not kill her. Mikasa was on her own ground in the end. What makes it better is that she loved him yet still killed him knowing it was for the best even armin and levi showed hesitation

@@SeaTactics Mikasa was barely developed over the series. After Ymir was taken by Reiner and Butterboy, I found Historias arc fell a bit stale. They could have used the second half to both develop Mikasa and Historia. As stated before, the Royal creeps from the Capitol still have a bounty out on Mikasas head from when she was a child, this could have been used to tie the stories together to develop Mikasa AND Historia. Just my thoughts though. I just find everyone simping for the Historia arc a little strange is all.

Its interesting to think as well that Pure titans are immortal, and never age. Those in them similarly never change nor age... assuming they even have their human bodies in the pure form. Since it seems like a pure titan literally just takes a normal person and completely alters what they are physically and mentally. Only after eating another shifter do they seem to get their bodies back at all. So in a way, dozens to hundreds of thousands of titans could be locked away under the ground sleeping or otherwise... some maybe even older than this Ymir. Likely others from bygone era's who were unfortunate enough to turn into titans at the time. Can you give a perfect reason, why does ymir go with reiner, there are many reasons, but i want real one, even if ymir takes historia to marley they will use her to make babies or she will be eaten up bcs she has royal blood, how come this stupid ymir thinks historia will be safe in marely and also ymir will not be safe bcs she also gets eaten, as it is already true from series, i really dont understand here I know that she eaten reiners friend and thats why she went with him, as reiner cant go with empty handed to marley, and at same time she makes a resolve to leave historia by seeing the eren control over founding titan in the fight, or she was just accepted her faith that she is selfless and she will be always loyal in order to save other? , which reason is true or if ymir dont go, the whole marlyan army go for paradis thinking that how can paradis become this strong,bcs reiner failed and they captured annie, so thats why she went marley to sacrifies her self inorder to protect elden race and historia, which is the right ones, explain a bit

Fake Ymir and Historia together are basically what Ymir (Fritz) would have chosen to do, so both characters were practically ripped out of the Plot after they discovered the truth of the world, and so what Ymir's (Fritz) character doesn't had any depth, because it is the clear parallel of the construction of these two others, in what it could have been if it wasn't the biggest slave of all (Stockholm Syndrome) maybe not in its deepest thoughts, but in its will to fight for the what do you believe, against point with Eren xD

I love attack on titans writing. I genuinely only think there are 2 blunders. Ymir’s death/ sacrifice is STUPID! It genuinely doesn’t make sense. Once she has everything she could want she throws it away. It’s as dumb as Levi giving a bomb trigger to a titan host who can regenerate. Again I love the show. I think it’s writing is solid. But 100% I don’t agree with her death. Why help them knowing they are going to sacrifice her? It’s bullshit. The writer only did it because historia had to give birth because of her royal blood. So she couldn’t be with a woman. This is a great video. Just still don’t think it justifies Ymir’s dumbass death.

@@vasanthvamshi9977 I don’t think Historia should of gone with her to Marley, but I also don’t think Ymir should of left historia. It’s just not believable to me. Again I don’t dislike the series at all. I just truly 100% think this is absolutely ridiculous and dumb. A waste of an amazing character like Ymir, followed by dumb reasoning to justify her death. Ymir could of let them go off on their own and she could of easily been just fine. Speculation to what we know but she wouldn’t about them attacking is just grasping at straws to me personally. Ymir legit says “the only thing that matters to her is Historia” So why care about protecting the people that literally take her back to just be eaten and killed in the most unceremonious way possible only for Erin to later in the series kill the guy that at her in another unceremonious way. Just dumb. Being real, I think it’s that the author wanted a lesbian couple/ ship, but had to do the “censorship” route. Just like “Yuri on ice” did so the girls couldn’t actually be together. But I wish they would of just done it a bit smarter because the end result is so stupid and upsetting.

The “straight” characters didn’t have love scenes either so by that logic they must not be straight either. Saying “i want to marry” means just that.

Yea I still feel that was kinda dumb I mean if she new Eren could defend them then we did she still go? with her being able to use her titian powers with eren instead of giving them to their enemy's you think that would be a better option.
