Yiddish Mean Girls is the inaugural film of Chava Productions, Dylan Seders Hoffman’s production company that she founded as both a generator of new Jewish cultural production and as a platform for highlighting and elevating women’s stories. Chava Productions’ focus is on presenting original works located at the intersection of pop culture and 21st century Jewishness with a generous dose of Yiddish. omfg the way the baguette in the original becomes a challah... i die.
All four of them have legit acting chops and comedic timing! And they’re all gorgeous! I love seeing my fellow ashkie sisters onscreen🥹

Im so happy I understood some of this
This is so similar yet so different than the standard Yiddish of Brooklyn Chassidim (both of the Chabad and Satmar varieties on either end). For instance: “nisht in kaas” would be “nisht oifgeregt” or “nisht bayz” I’ve never heard anyone use the word “kur**a” (a Slavic derivative obv),but this could be because of my sheltered background (yet the word zoinah and perutzah are sometimes used). Also, “Ayl dich “ for hurry up rather than whatever they were saying and I couldn’t catch.

@@jacob_and_william Great question! It's YIVO or standardized academic Yiddish (klal shprakh). So yes, a bit of an artificial dialect that is closest to a Litvish dialect (because that's where the language was standardized at the YIVO in Vilna). It's the standard Yiddish that's taught in university settings today. It's also the dialect of Yiddish that was used for the recent Off-Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish in NYC.

Wenn deine Mutter Jiddish ist,dann geht's,aber Juden sind sehr eigen,du müsstest dich beim Rebbe,der dir 3in paar Fragen stellen würde vorstellen,und je nach,was deine Antworten waren,bekâmst du die chance .... Hebräisch, Jiddish lernen,Thora und kennen, die 613 mizwot 248("Glieder" des Menschen)davon sind Gebote, also religiöse Pflichten, 365 (Tage eines Jahres)sind Verbote....

Christen gab es da noch lang nicht,Jesus war Jude (I.esus N.azarehus R ex I.udeus steht und fast jedem Kreuz....) I’m pretty sure it came to Yiddish from Polish (or another Slavic language), not the other way around :)
