First time I tried these was at a Greek festival held at an Orthodox church here in town. Lordy, I was hooked on the first bite. They were still warm from being cooked and were heaven on a plate. We attend this festival now every year for these honey puffs, the saganaki, the lamb and the Greek sausages. If you have never been to one of these events, make it a point to go if you have one in your area.

Hi Penny my mum makes them and she said if you shallow fry high chance they can turn into flat loukoumathes once they come out. She says have a deep pot with more oil and they should turn out fine.

That's not so clear (but I'd love a source if you have one). What is clear is that the Seleucid Empire (Successor Kingdoms), followed by the Roman Empire, followed by the Ottoman Empire, allowed dishes to come across all parts of the realm.
