The Chinese has many variety of tofu (or soy products). From curds, skins, fermented, soft, firm, silk, to sheets, to tofu dumpling wrappers, to even marinated tofu, stinky tofu, etc. Tofu is an important staple just as wheat based products (noodles and dumplings) and rice in Chinese cuisine. The one you made is very similar to general tso (made with tofu) so you could try it with that flavor instead of sirracha

@gwenhuginn

@@PolishMePurdy you keep it in the package. I highly recommend getting tofu that is in a waterbath though and not tightly sealed in plastic. It usually has a better quality and will be easier to tear into chunks. Usually I buy tofu, put it directly into the freezer and when remember it a few days later I just take it out to thaw. Once it's reached room temperature I throw it back into the freezer. After that you simple put it out to thaw the evening before your next lunch/dinner :D

I’ve also hated tofu, but there was this one restaurant that sold saucy crispy tofu on a sizzling plate (it’s called sizzling tofu) and I loved it! And me and my family decided to make one at home. My mom fried up some tofu cubes then I prepare the sauce that consists of mayo, oyster sauce, and liquid seasoning and then we cook diced onions and green bell peppers on a pan then add the tofu and sauce and boom! Best served hot with rice or you can eat it on its own The sauce can be used for dipping as well
@Josh-99 Жыл бұрын
You can reduce the oil in the recipe by baking the tofu instead of pan-frying it. Simply use some soy sauce or tamari instead of the salt when coating the tofu with corn starch. Mix the tofu and coating well with your hand (gently!). Put onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper and bake at 425F for 20-25 minutes. Keep an eye on your tofu and you want for it to get crispy but not burned, and every oven is a little different. In my convection oven I get the best results by cooking at 420F for 22 minutes. After that, you can use the sauce shown here.

I second the runny egg, soy sauce, sesame oil too! + rice + dried seaweed + scrambled egg is also good. I put sausage or spam in the scrambled egg if I feel like it.
That recipe looks amazing, but I am even more amazed by that loop! Girl, that was goddamn smooth
Gurrrl. I love how all your recipes are simple with commonly used ingredients.
"tear the tofu" I am dying
Your cooking is so amazing. I tried this today and love it. This is my second time e ever having tofu and the first time I tried it I just threw things together didn't really know how to cook it till I watched this video. Not I can say I actually like it.
Just tried this! It's amazing and a bit of tip for people who suck at cooking don't go overboard w the starch otherwise they will all stick to each other you can use potato starch instead too
You're videos are great
Lol, I use to hate tofu too! I learned how to make it right, now I eat it all the time.
EVERY time somebody tells me they hate tofu my knee-jerk reaction is "did you season it well?" Bc that makes or breaks it

It is like: whenever anyone says 'i do not like hot rod in my ass' i keep asking 'perhaps you did not shove it right in your ass'?
Just tried this,I needed a little bit more cornstarch for my tofu but this is FYE! 🔥I didn’t like tofu at first as a vegan but over the last few weeks I’ve grown to love it and this easy recipe has really made me fall in love with it!!!
“Bring it to a bubble” made me smile :-)
"Tear it" I already can hear Uncle Roger cry out in pain Otherwise a splendid dinner idea👍

Roger is cringe. Also I'm Asian and there's nothing awful about tearing tofu. In some asian cultures esp vegetarian folks commonly do that to add crisp and texture.
Just tried it. In fact, it was my first time eating tofu. I will definitely eat again! thanks for that
Your videos make me so proud to be vegan and happy to be excited for food 🥹🤍
Freeze and thaw the tofu twice before doing this to get a meaty texture! Since I found out about that technique I'v found a deep love for tofu 😍

Freeze it in the package or after the package? Sorry if it’s a silly question
@gwenhuginn

After that you simple put it out to thaw the evening before your next lunch/dinner :D
i just cooked tofu for the first time recently and i’m getting a hang of it! it’s so easy and enjoyable. i’ve yet to coat it with something and fry it tho, so i’ll have to do that next time!

I feel that ate tofu for the first them when I already was an adult and didn't quite like it but then after two or three times more I even was a little desperate for more. By now I really love it.

You can try boiling it in salted water for 5 minutes, it actually helps with the texture and with seasoning:3 it's a pretty common way to prepare tofu in China
I have been vegan for 5 years but I am usually too lazy to make tofu like this, but I did today and it was soooo good. Thanks so much!! It's not that hard, just use a non-stick pan. I turned them with tongs.
I've never liked Tofu, but that looks delicious. I will try it. Thanks👍🏼

There’s a tofu seasoning I found with tumeric, rosemary, coriander, fenugreek, sage, kummel, mustard seed, fennel, sage, thyme and lemongrass Marinaded the tofu in it and it actually tastes so good! Especially with coconut milk I try to minimise my salt intake and therefore hardly use soy sauce, so this seasoning was a game changer for tofu
I wanted to try tofu, bur because of peoples opinions about it i was a bit hesitating how and when to eat it. First time eating it using your receipe and I loved it! Thank you so much for sharing, you make going veggie so much easier ❤
I love tofu. Cooked in all the ways. And just like it is already. Anyway, this recipe looks delightful! Will definitely try.
This is the best tofu recipe I've ever tasted... Thanks a lot!
When you prepare it right, tofu is very good! This looks great thanks for sharing
could do this too w oyster sauce instead of soy sauce and omitting the cornstarch in the sauce, just as an alt! tofu’s so good
Smoothest transition ever- period.
I made this while struggling to find a good snack, it tasted AMAZING. I’m glad I didn’t have to order any restaurant food because this is better :>
That spatula on that pan hurt me so bad
Sooooo good! I could eat this everyday. I put it on top of kimchi
I learn so many new and interesting English words from your videos! And I love watching the recipes as well ^^
Well-prepared tofu is YUM
Thank you for giving an alternative to agave. I'm allergic so I'm glad you added that. A lot of people don't do that in their cooking videos because its so uncommon so it makes me feel included and encouraged to participate
that was delicious. thanks!!
Loved this! I tried it
I love all of your recipes.
Thanks for the recipe! I tried tofu years ago and was disappointed. A friend of mine prepared it for me. She was so excited I couldn't tell her that I despised the flavor (or the absence of it). I've been watching so many videos about it that I think it's time to give it a second chance. Your intro convinced me and the recipe is easy enough. Wish me luck!!
I’m lying on bed at 2AM making myself wait until tomorrow to make this. Looks awesome!
Love watching you, so good with food. I need to try this. Thank you x
I've made this twice and it's amazing
Wow the way this video is formated is genius
Never thought of tearing tofu into chunks! You’ll definitely get more crunch crunch. Awesome! Will definitely start doing this ❤
Gonna make that
I just tried this recipe and it tastes just wow 😳❤
Made it! Nice 😋 Thanks for the written instructions too! 👍
I love tofu now! I even make the tofu, itself, from scratch. It's really simple.
I recommend to freeze the tofu before adding it to the pan. After a few hours take it out from the freezer and let it thaw. After that press it again and now it lost even more water, so it get’s even more crispier. This step is totally optional, but I really loved the result
i love your videos so much, your positive energy is contagious! i made this today and it came out delicious
Thank you, thank you for your healthy and fun foods and attitudes!
OH MY GOODNESS. This is so good . I just made it. Ahhhh it's a perfect meal . Thank you for sharing. It was easy and it tastes amazing ❤
Hmmmmm you have influenced me to buy some tofu im like what now its in my house lol. Going to try this steam broccoli and a vegan egg roll tonight should be interesting
It came out really tasty 😋😄
I tried it and i didnt rly like it but my dad liked it
You nailed it again, Maya!!!
Agree; tofu tossed with cornstarch or tapioca starch and pan-fried is a game-changer. I like to whisk together almond butter, sriracha, and coconut aminos to coat the tofu in once it comes out of the pan.
Love it ❤thank you Maya
You have spectacular vibes!
That’s how I make Tofu! Except I use fresh garlic and ginger. So delicious 😋
Yum! Made the tofu as instructed and the sauce as well and it was much tastier than my own cubed, fried tofu.
I agree, you have to learn how to give and add to the tofu in order for it to really taste good if you aren’t accustomed to it. And I hated the thought of tofu until I found out how to actually use it. Now my favorite ways to use it are Barbecue skewers, Spicy Orange Tofu (BoshTVs recipe is my go to), in cheesecake etc
I tried this and its was absolutely wonderful thank u so much for the recipe
That recipe looks Incredible! By the way- I love tofu!
Your videos are awesome! I appreciate you so much! Thank you for the delicious ideas!
great recipe, enjoyed it lots !
Excellent recipe... Thanks!
Sooooo dishish!! I’ve made this a few times. Fave!!❤
This is soo good!
This is exceptional! So tasty! Thanks for the recipe!
By far best tofu recipe, Thanks!
Best served hot with rice or you can eat it on its own The sauce can be used for dipping as well
You can reduce the oil in the recipe by baking the tofu instead of pan-frying it.
I hate tofu too but I'm definitely going to give this a try!
So easy- and delicious! Thank you. ❤
IT ACTUALLY TASTES GREAT
