This piece of music is very intense because it’s based on the book War and Peace and it leads up to the climax accordingly. Rick Wakeman was replaced by Patrick Moraz on this album and his jazz influence shows through but this is Yes’s most avant garde work by far.

You should do the symphonic live version or the live 1975 one. The latter is a bit rough on the audio. The symphonic one is from 2003 and in HD with a full orchestra. Try them 😊

Having seen Chris Squire and Yes 36 times I can assure you that they are better live. So James a song called Ritual from their 35th Anniversary Tour called Songs From Tsongas will prove my point. Keep up the sincere reactions. 🙏🍁

In these days, Yes pieced together the songs bit by bit, and had to rehearse, working long and hard to learn the arrangements to play that shit live. They were demonstrably NOT "better" live, even though they managed some good live recordings in the '70s. Singles came out. Albums followed. THEN a tour, where you'd see the bands live, and judge whether they could bring their music into a stadium. Which was filled with fans, who'd already loved the songs enough to show up. That's not where you want to point a first-time KZread reactor. I really don't understand this thinking of you "live, geriatric-era" fans. Unless it's already a jam-band like the Allman Brothers, or Miles Davis or something, listen to the album track first. Yes were a studio band, that happened to be able to reasonably bring it live, nothing more. Start from the beginning.
