Yes ~ The Fish (Schindleria Praematurus) ~ Live at Montreux [2003] [HD 1080p]

Музыка

Live at Montreux 2003 is a live album from the English progressive rock band Yes. It is a live recording of the group's headlining concert at the Montreux Jazz Festival on 14 July 2003. This is the first official album to feature the classic line-up of lead vocalist Jon Anderson, guitarist Steve Howe, keyboardist Rick Wakeman, bassist Chris Squire and drummer Alan White since the 1996/1997 Keys to Ascension live albums, along with a DVD also entitled Keys to Ascension. The album was released on September 3, 2007, during a hiatus in the band's activity following a tour ending in 2004.
"The Fish" was Chris Squire's nickname. He earned it primarily due to his very long baths he would take, back when several members lived in the same flat and had to share the bathroom. Bill (Bruford) especially was not amused. He also happens to be a Pisces.
The subtitle for this song is "Schindleria Praematurus," which is an obscure, neotenic marine fish from the Pacific ocean. "Neotenic" means the adult fish exhibits no adult characteristics, only juvenile characteristics. The story is that Chris Squire had the melody and wanted to sing the name of a fish that had eight syllables, and dispatched a roadie (Maybe Michael Tait) to find one. The best he could find had nine, which is why the last syllable kind of trails off.
Squire's solo also incorporates much of the bass lines from the song "Tempus Fugit", which is a Latin phrase usually translated into English as "Time Flies".

What moves us through the silence of Chris Squire's passing is to know that he will live in our hearts always. What he leaves behind is not to die, but to live on in the minds and hearts of those who loved him. Chris, you made part of this life shared very special for both of us. R.I.P dear Chris ~ Bass Player Extraordinaire ღღღ In the love of There, as in the love of Here, we will think of him still as the same ... 1948~2015 ~> You (Chris Squire) were a superb talent. YES! RIP- (Dan & Donna) ~ Forever fans ...

Chris was a wonderful musician but kind of a turd personally. I was in a band called Roots Of Consciousness that opened for them in Atlanta on....the Talk tour? Jon brought us out around the stage with them before the show because they were going to do Purple Haze as an encore, and he couldn't remember the lyrics. His bright idea, which was incredibly fun for about 10 minutes, was for us to help him re-learn the lyrics.... until Mr. Squire came out and said, if I recall, "Get these twats out of here." We got a smile and a wink from Jon and split. Still love you Chris.

This was probably the last time in their touring career they were at their best. Howe was simply a virtuoso, White hadn't started to decline yet, Squire was alive and at the top of his game, and Wakeman was awesome and with the band. I loved this group for 50 years. RIP Mr. Squire and Mr. White. You are missed.

I’d agree with that…the tempo sadly dropped to a snails pace after this then they began replacing Jon and it was just a sad sight to see… I’m sure The Steve Howe experience play more like this now but I don’t care for tribute bands…

He had a style and sound that no one else came close to. He was extremely melodic, and many of Yes' songs were as good as they were because of Squire's inventive bass lines. There are so many songs I could mention; the most obvious being "Roundabout". "Heart of the Sunrise" is another beauty. Thanks for the excellent comment, Sebastian. R.I.P. Chris "the fish" Squire.

My dad took me to a record store when I was 14 after I had been been listening to his hand me down Beetles and Led Zeppelin records. He asked the store clerk to help me pick an album. The Fragile album had just been released and it was my first very own full length album ever. It's amazing that over 40 years later I still listen to it proudly.

@@nickavenoso7851 I had never heard that! If Chris said it, it must be true. Ricks have a distinctive high end sound and "growl" that I love. One thing's for sure, nobodies Rick sounded like Chris Squire's.

MysticRhythmsLive He talks about it in the rig rundown he did with Premier Guitar. Some of Geddy’s playing on Cygnus X-1 Book 2, actually kind of reminds me of Chris. You can definitely hear Yes influences in Rush’s earlier material. I also remember hearing Geddy say that Yes is the only band that he waited in line for hours to see.

Chris split his signal output going to a bass amp and a guitar amp. Additionally, when Chris strikes a string with a pick his thumb follows it a split second later giving each stroke a slight chorus effect.

He's definitely one of my faves, along with Geddy Lee and others. Chris had such a great melodic style, never overplaying on the songs or trying to show he was the best. His bass lines are what made so many of the Yes songs as incredible as they are.

My favorite part about Chris Squire's style, is that he played the bass in a way that reminds me of the way I, a clasically trained flutist, play my instrument. Not exactly going full improv, but rather focusing on remembering every note and the correct timing of it.
