Yes, the Bar From Cheers Is Real - Look Inside

Ойын-сауық

Cheers may be one of the most successful television shows to ever air, but many people don’t realize that the titular bar that served as the show’s location was actually based on a real-life pub. The real-life pub that inspired the titular bar on Cheers was originally called the Bull and Finch Pub. Founded in 1969, the pub quickly grew to become one of the most popular bars in Boston, Massachusetts. The popularity of the location grew even more after it began being used for exterior shots of the fictional bar on Cheers, and the location subsequently changed its name to Cheers Beacon Hill to capitalize on the show’s growing success.

Although the exterior of Cheers Beacon Hill continued to be used for exterior shots of the titular bar on Cheers, the interior of the real-life bar didn’t match the set that was used for the show. The set of Cheers was small and cozy, while Cheers Beacon Hill was much larger. In 2001, the owner of Cheers Beacon Hill opened up a second and smaller location that served as a more authentic representation of the Cheers experience. This location was called Cheers Faneuil Hall. Sadly, this second location was recently forced to close its doors due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
When Cheers Faneuil Hall was forced to close its doors, it was also forced to sell off a great deal of memorabilia that it had been housing. The location had been functioning as a veritable Cheers museum, and all of this merchandise is now in the hands of private parties that may never unveil it to the public again. However, Cheers Beacon Hill is still operating, and fans of the show will still be able to visit the location that served as the titular Cheers bar’s exterior. Join Facts Verse as we take a look inside the real bar from Cheers!

Been there in a visit to Boston and loved it. Had a beer and took selfies all over. A great experience for fans of the show. But you will comment as you walk in that it's not like the set but still so welcoming.

I went to Boston thirty-one years ago [I'm 50 now] just to see that sign. The sign said Cheers and had an arrow pointing down the stairs. I knew that the show was filmed elsewhere it was just cool to see it.

I visited it back in 1999 when this Brit visited Boston. Lovely place. Although I did notice a strange light about the city and put that down to the tall buildings creating a kind of twighlight.

I got to visit the Bull & Finch Pub in Boston back in 1989. I was on tour with a band called Hothouse Flowers from Dublin Ireland. While we were in California, I met 2 girls from Polygram records. They promised me that they would show me around Boston when we got there. Having forgotten all about it, I tied one on the night before in Boston. I was awakened by a knock on my door. It was the 2 girls. I just wanted to go back to sleep, I had a doozy of a hangover. They wasn't having it. Reluctantly I obliged, and off we went. I was really glad that I did. They drove me past Harvard and other places, followed by parking, and walking to the pub. True to life, we walked down the side steps, I was excited just doing that. As the video shows that's where the changes take place. As soon as you open the door. We walked around the place, I bought a really cool cheers beer mug, and a t-shirt. To the right of the bar is a hallway that has pictures on the wall as you walk down it. We sat at the bar and had a few beers. I wish we had the capabilities with our cell phones as we have now. I had taken "alot" of pictures from coast to coast. Some while watching a lift-off of the space shuttle at a nearby beach. I remember wanting to have a few rolls developed while we were on sunset strip in California. We were staying at the Hyatt right next to the comedy store. (Great rooftop pool there) I can't remember how much they wanted for one roll of film, but I remember it being outrageous. I took most of my film home with me. As time went on, I never found the film. So so many memories lost forever. The Bull & Finch pub being one of them. I was so bummed out. Great coverage here. Such fond memories. I miss them ..

I watched the 1974 Super Bowl at that location. It was named "The Townhouse Pub" at the time. The stairs on the ground level led to "The Townhouse Restaurant." (no admittance without a tie I learned the hard way) The interior was much different, much less "crowd" friendly on big days like the Super Bowl. I was relatively new in Boston and Super Bowl Sunday was my first visit to the pub. The game was boring, the Dolphins beat the Vikings 24-7. I returned there occasionally but it was never a regular stop. It was exciting to see the entrance and the staircase down to the door on the opening credits to "Cheers." I completely identified. I lived in Dallas at the time; my companions watching TV that night barely blinked at my enthusiasm about seeing a place I used to frequent. I chalked it up that they just had never been anyplace worth talking about!
