Yeosang really struggled during his trainee days. Balancing school and training. His parents were completely against it. So he made an agreement with them that he would get into an academic academy if they agreed to let him pursue his dream. He would train really early, then spend until really late at night at the academy, then return to train. His academy even had classes on the weekends. But he did it. And showed his parents how serious he was about becoming a singer. They are now very supportive of him. At the academy he attended they would write their dream job on their lockers. Yeosang was actually very nervous about his thinking it would not be received well. On the fan site for Ateez (TokToq) Hongjoong posted a still shot of that scene and commented “I waited for today”. Showing how proud he is that Yeosang finally wrote 가수 (pronounced gasu) singer on his locker. Yeosang’s voice is just soothing.

For the recent cover, the music video is based on his trainee days and how hard they were for him, he said he chose that song because it's the one he'd listen to those days for comfort. I think the emotional/ballad type songs are definitely his style. His vocals are somehow a fan favorite and underrated at the same time, just goes to show why he deserves more lines than he's given.

it’s funny that you mentioned that yeosang’s voice fits well for telling bedtime stories because he did, in fact, narrate an audio book of a children’s story for kids back in 2020 with mingi… it’s called “star bookstore”! the story behind him choosing “to my youth” as his latest birthday cover was it was one of the songs that gave him comfort when he was balancing his trainee life and school life… the whole video for the cover actually showed snippets of his actual experiences back when he was at school (falling asleep at school because of staying up late going to trainee practice, receiving a banana milk from a classmate with a note saying ‘go for it’, and writing ‘artist/singer’ as his future dream career on his locker). i think the lyrics also resonated with him as his parents weren’t initially supportive of him becoming an idol and wanted him to be on a more secured career path.

the second cover, ‘me after you’ by paul kim was not from vlive but was uploaded on twitter by yeosang back in 2020 i believe… for yeosang, i think he have a natural deep voice which you will definitely notice when he’s speaking with other ateez members on their various contents! your reaction for ‘it’s you’ is literally me when i first watched it 😂 i was just speechless and shocked all throughout xD i agree, the choreo and editing of the music video is phenomenal! yeosang, san, and wooyoung absolutely smashed that song! 💜 yeosang’s ‘hug me’ cover never fails to make me emotional, and at the same time, happy because it was the first time i was able to hear his voice outside of ateez’s discography and i’m really proud of him and how people, through that cover, acknowledges how underrated his voice was and how his voice is soothing, calming and heavenly! i hope we hear more from yeosang in their future albums and thank you for the reaction! 🫶

The time yeosang choses to cover a happy song is that time when his company treats him right. The first cover you reacted is To My Youth by BOL4. Its actually a pretty popular song, the lyrics is relatable too, especially to yeosang who had a very kdrama youth success story before he became ateez. His journey is really interesting and makes you want to look at yourself whenever you give up on doing the barest minimum. The mv of that is a real story of that one time when he needed to juggle being a student of a highly academic focused school and a trainee, he always sleeps a lot in the classroom because he couldn't sleep much cause of training and the rest is how he feels, the uncertainty and the risk while pursuing his dream. The last part when he stick up a note in his locker is when his class supposedly had a locker in the hallway and they get to post it what they want to be or dream to be in the future, his classmates went to put doctors or lawyers and he put 'artist or singer' in his which he became embarrassed because his friends also thought he was just kidding but then he realize that it was his dream and he didn't need to be embarrassed about something that he wants. Yeosang is a very good and kind person, if i leave kpop. I only leave kpop, not him.

It's kinda sad that yeosang tends to have the least amount of lines since debut he's capable of so much more. Without him covering songs I don't think we would be aware of his full potential 😢

His Paul Kim cover has got to be my favorite ever. Then the Hug Me cover. And his latest is a story of what he went through during school/trainee days. YeoSang does have a deep voice but it is quite different from Felix. YeoSang’s is more light and really feels quite comforting like you said.
