Yemeni Jewish Dance

Музыка

Yemeni Jews singing and dancing: A performance of the Yemenite Troupe.
Here is a "simple" translation of the Yemeni Dialect part--I need help with the Hebrew part (some words are translated based on the way the performers pronounce them, which is in some parts "questionable")
Note: the words in parentheses are added for clarification:

Down (the hill or mountain) I went
To the stream
To water my horse--
My foot slipped
And I fell into the water.
I went to propose (engagement)
But they rejected me,
(and) my "qat" (a stimulant)
And the "mada3ah" (water-pipe)
Although I'm the son of a Chief
The son of a Jew.
I went to propose
Carrying my qat and the mada3ah
But the bad guys
Made a fool of me.
Sweet heart and the apple of my eye
Tell those who made you
Think bad of me:
Who of you would entertain me?
From the early dawn
She got angry with me
And went cry--
Got angry--oh darkness (of the night)
Out of sight is my beloved.
For a year and two months,
Never returned.
Alas people
She left
And deserted me.
To whom shall I complain,
And would understand me?
Before whom shall I cry,
And would pity me?
And who of you
Would entertain me.

These proxy war between Iran and US and Saudi is the reason for it all, Muslim, Jews and Christians been living together in Yemen for thousands of years without any problem. Such good music I attended a Shabbos in Jerusalem at a yemeni Jewish family's home, they are delightful people and their music more so I'd heard that yemenite Jews provided security to the yemeni Royal family Is this sung in yemenite Arabic or a Jewish language besides ladino? Too bad that no one talks about the pain that Yemen is going through at the hands of its fellow Muslims. Shalom!

Instead of focusing on political and religious differences, how about we focus on the reason why we visited this page: to appreciate the beauty of the music and dance that is intrinsic to the Yemenite Jewish culture. At the end of the day if you open us up, we are identical on the inside. One heart, two lungs, etc. Speaking of Yemenite music, can anyone kindly tell me the name of this song? I think Daklon or Moti Nahari also did a rendition of this song, and I've been trying to look for it.

emperor7772 I'm really saddened by all the arguing and fighting among us. It's all just for power and influence. The things happening in Israel are atrocious and the way the Ashkenazim are dealing with the Yemeni and Ethiopian Jews and other ethnic Jews is just straight up racism (things no one wants to talk about). All these things are why we don't have our country or our temple. We are all suppose to be united...

  • @emperor7772

LeeltDevorah Tafari Yes you are right. It is about power and political interests/agendas. Many Jews and Muslims were worrisome that establishing a one state religion in the Holy Lands will send shock waves throughout the world and that wars will continue to ravage this blessed land. The Ottoman Empire and those before solved the problem by giving each faith a quarter in the old city of Jerusalem. To the extent they helped to reconcile between the feuding religious groups/ideologies within Christianity and Judaism. They also allowed the people to adhere to their religious laws without any hindrance by state. So Muslims use their Shariah, Jews use their Beth din and Christians use their Biblical laws. This was a consensus that all the Abrahamic faiths agreed upon. So be honest my friend, people need to fear God and the coming the day of judgement. It is forbidden to do injustice and oppression even if someone does not belong to your faith group. I don't see no resolutions or solutions coming from politics. Things will only get worse. They only way is when Scholars/Religious representatives of all 3 faiths get around a table and discuss a practical way forward for their future. Politicians have their own agendas and many people don't trust them. They say sweet words but no actions.

***** I don't understand. How could she not be biracial? She's from the new world, so the chances of her being multi-racial, if not truly "biracial", are high. If you could see the avatar of a lighter-skinned, different-textured (or maybe similar) haired women who claimed to be ashkenazi/sephardi, would you fret? This is clear inner-religion racism. The lighter women could be just as mixed with Brit, Slav, Roman, Spanish, etc. as the lady above is with darker pigmented groups. But beside that, if she claims her family is Jewish, could not her mother be Jewish? What is the problem? What about the Jewish communities around the world which partially descend from ancient mother converts and Jewish men? These are the interpretations of man anyway. Patrilineage clearly has a more important role in the Torah, and intermarriage from both men and women can be seen. Obviously certain groups don't even follow this custom (Karaite). I'm not on either side, but why are we so quick to judge this women?

Yemen needs to rebuild a country based on community, gender equality, ethnic equality with the spirit of brotherhood, diversity, peace, and culture so that it can become the most beautiful place that causes anyone and wherever people want to live there.

Sheba's queen(sheba is the name of the kingdom, and there were many shebean kings in the history of yemen),on her name Bilkis was the queen of yemenis aswell, but most of them still doesnt identify themselves as jews..but call themselves shebeans..i do not know a lot about how the habasha people(ethiopians, eritreans) identify themselves but i know they have a great history aswell and we share a queen,Bilkis with them..

@arkhatych when I used the term hammer, I wasn't refer to a real hammer, but I was talking figuratively. But anyway, maybe a Im being biased, and after all things are never what they seem, so peace be to you and shalom.
