Yellowtail kingfish off the Rocks

Yellowtail Kingfish off the Rocks
We fly onto a Far North rock location in New Zealand, in search of a big kingi from the rocks. It’s a full on day of action that has some great snapper action and a dramatic big kingfish finale.

Wow huge fish. I like the way you gently release the fish back into the water. Nice and easy. I've watched videos of fish being thrown back in the water from a height risking the fish air bladder to burst. Keep up the good work

it depends on how they are setting the hook. suicide hooks are fine if you know how to set them correctly. otherwise, yeah, circle hooks do tend to set themselves in a good spot.

yes, but the problem is, so does everything else. in that situation, where you can't directly target the fish you want, you need to use a bait the rest of the smaller fish will leave alone. hence, freelining kawi. if you can approach from the ocean side, in deeper water, you have a better chance of targeting the kingies themselves.
