If getting a rental car...take out the insurance. Elk, bison, rock slides, and city folk often do not do well driving in the mountains or on hairpin curves, and are subject to "brake checks" for no reason (lol).

Bobbie LaVanway that’s a great suggestion Bobbie. Folks not accustomed to driving over mountains and rivers, and around critters might be surprised at how treacherous it can be. Some extra insurance might be very wise.

Hello! I don’t know if you will see this comment or not since the video is a little old but my family and I are going to Yellowstone soon and this video got me really excited. Thank you for those tips as well, they should help make the trip go smoother. We do have a question tho, how often do people see moose in/around Yellowstone? That is one animal everyone in the family wants to see! Thanks again and hope all is well!

Hi Buffalo 007! - we never did see moose at Yellowstone ourselves. We arrived at the Park on May 15 and stayed until June 14. When we got there Dunraven Pass was not yet open because of the winter snow at that elevation. I will say, however, that we did see Moose in Grand Teton National Park which we visited just prior to Yellowstone. We spent a week there and there was a Cow and her calf there in the Gros Venture Campground. They are huge animals but were completed nonplussed at many people standing around watching them and taking pictures. We plan to return in 2021 at about the same time of year. God Bless & Happy Trails!

I currently drive a rwd car that isn’t very good in snow. I got a job in Gardiner for the summer and will be leaving in may. Do u think I will face any issues with my car and driving some of these roads with weather?

As I have gone alone in there And with my treasures bold, I can keep my secret where, And hint of riches new and old. Begin it where warm waters halt And take it in the canyon down, Not far, but too far to walk. Put in below the home of Brown. From there it’s no place for the meek, The end is ever drawing nigh; There’ll be no paddle up your creek, Just heavy loads and water high. If you’ve been wise and found the blaze, Look quickly down, your quest to cease, But tarry scant with marvel gaze, Just take the chest and go in peace. So why is it that I must go And leave my trove for all to seek? The answers I already know, I’ve done it tired, and now I’m weak. So hear me all and listen good, Your effort will be worth the cold. If you are brave and in the wood I give you title to the gold.

We are heading to Yellowstone for the first time next Thursday. Plan entering the park via the Beartooth highway, camping at Canyon. What time of you did you go?

I am so sorry I only saw your question just now!! I don’t know how I missed it ! I hope you enjoyed your trip to Yellowstone. It is our favorite National Park. To belatedly answer your question, we visited Yellowstone from May 15 thru June 15 in 2019. We were are Grand Teton for Ten days before that!

Hi Elizabeth - we stayed a month at Valley View RV Park in Island Park, Idaho. It’s about 20 minutes to the West Gate.

We spent four weeks in Island Park, Idaho - which is 20 minutes from the West Entrance to Yellowstone. We got there on May 15, 2019 which is about two weeks before Memorial Day and it was great. There was no waiting at the entrance gate and parking was generally available at all the sights. Starting Memorial Day weekend though, was an entirely different story with crowds, lines, and jammed parking lots. If you can’t go early, before Memorial Day or late, after Labor Day, you still should go. It will just be a nicer experience when not in the height of tourist season.
