Gaming P50 ACA actually there is, it's just not visible in the video, of you look at some of Romeoville's other sirens, for example there is a 2001 D.C. In Romeoville that was filmed and put on KZread the CD sticker is clearly visible on the left side of the rotator box.

CD was replaced by FEMA in the 80s, hence why all sirens from 1985 ish to present are single tone. The thunderbolt ended production in 1993 selling only single toned models painted grey.

That 508 looks epic in yellow. Also if you haven't heard a P-50 yet, you should go get one in Plainfield/Joliet or whatever next month.

The shape of the 508s reminds me of a cereal bowl.

Great recording! It seems like it would be a bit harder to get a 508 in yellow rather than a 2001, since you have to color the fiberglass itself rather than painting over metal. I would love to see more modern sirens like this one in custom paint schemes.

It is. IIRC, Romeoville, IL uses all yellow sirens.

it wouldnt. Single tone is a FEMA requirement. Other than electronic sirens, all mechanical sirens have to be single toned.

Wrong, only nuclear facilities require 500Hz single tone. Mechanical sirens can be any port ratio they want to be, but the problem is that the companies don't care enough to change anything that they already have. Dual tone is the better overall option, but the manufacturers don't care. Once Civil Defense was retired and the dual tone requirements were lifted, companies immediately switched to single tone because it makes higher numbers on range and dB outputs, even though they are much worse at making an effective tone to get people's attention.

well since Civil defense was associated with yellow, they painted the sirens yellow, and red for fire department, generally. Since Civil Defense is now under the jurisdiction of homeland security, they dont need to be yellow anymore, i guess they still paint them under special request.

NWIN Weather the Tempest series sirens from ASC and the 508 and Eclipse 8 all share the same chopper/stator unit. They might even use the same motor.

thats because the 508 is Federal signals answer to compete with the T128 for a 500hz sound requirement for nuclear power plants. Hence the name, 508. its peak sound is 508 hz

The amount of ignorance in your comment is astounding. 1. Google maps is DATED. You will see that the streetview imagery is taken BEFORE this video. 2. Use your common sense. WHY would a town replace a brand new 508 with "some P-15?" 3. READ THE DESCRIPTION.

I did not like the maintenance costs that we had to keep throwing in to the ACA siren that I had taken out. It constantly broke down, finally the base plate and chain had worn out. It failed one time and ran for an hour until we could pull the fuses in the middle of a very cold night. We already had Federal Signal controllers there anyway. So I purchased the 508 and yes, I specified the color to be yellow. Mike / Romeoville EMA Coordinator
