made this cake, but I added yogurt instead of buttermilk, and 4 whole eggs instead of separating, it turned out really good and finished in one night, thank you for the recipe :)

Usually the food is so perfect it's unreal with his perfection seeing the little drops and spills in this episode makes him even more endearing... Also that buttercream is crazy strong I love it

When I was a kid my parents made me this cake for every last one of my birthdays until I was in high school. I love it so much, so simple and so delicious! Especially with some sprinkles and some strawberry ice cream!

I would like to mention about your diy cake strip video. I was floored how perfect and leveled they came out. For someone that's a novice to baking, it definitely made me feel like an expert. 😆

I've been *obsessed* with researching yellow cake recipes for the last two weeks...so this video comes at a great time. Definitely needed John's input on the topic :D

I can't deny every preppy kitchen cake I've made has come out so beautiful and delicious, AMAZING.

I made this cake this morning and it is superb! Frosting not too sweet. I love swiss and italian buttercream but they take a little too long to make at times. This frosting was done in 10 mins. Love 'Preppy Kitchen' - John's enthusiasm for his dishes shines thru every video. Thank u

John gives useful tips that _really_ elevate your baking skills. I like to know *why* I’m doing something not just being told to do it then being left wondering why my baking doesn’t look anything like the pros.

I just saw this recipe and had to make it. My dad loves yellow cake with chocolate frosting since he was a kid so I used this recipe and made it in a sheet cake just as he likes it and it was delicious. Just like how he remembered it! Thank you so much for the wonderful recipe

I made this cake today, and it turned out awesome! I used King Arthur cake flour instead of AP flour and cornstarch, and it was so light and fluffy. @@alaura5147 I used 2 1/2 cups of cake flour. The recipe calls for 2 1/4 cups of AP flour and 1/4 cup of cornstarch. Since I used cake flour instead of AP and cornstarch, I used 2 1/2 cups. It's a really good recipe, I hope you give it a try!

Thanks for baking what I like baking, john. If I can't do it the next best thing is watching you do it. Lucky for me I'm always way ahead on my baking supplies so I was so lucky because the last ten trips to my grocery store was bare of flour, sugar and baking powder. Keep it up. Cheers!

I LOVE the fact that he uses his old cake strips. To see something has been used and loved so much really sold me on them. It’s also a breath of fresh air to see something that feels real and genuine instead of picture perfect
