I don't think they are toal opposite at all in terms of personality. Nat alway longed for a family just like her, she use alot of sarcasm too, and joke about death/dangerous situations all the times in the others marvel movies. I think here the real change is that she has to be the big sis and Yelena the younger one so it's can of a shift. I think the only true dfference between them is the immature childish aspect of Yelena (totally understandable given she didn't have a childhood) while Nat is trying to remain more serious (again big sister and all).

I love this scene but it surprised me to hear that it's what she said since in the French version she says "What? Do you want to wait for the bus?" and when Natasha is struggling with the car she says "do you have your driver's licence?". It's funny to see how different it is from one country to another!

Not gonna lie, Wanda's Sokovian accent sounds weird and Lizzie looks like she constipated every time she's trying to match the accent. While Florence has a natural deep voice so the accent suits her. My theory is, Natasha taught her American accent after Age of Ultron event to blend in with everyone.

@@Mysikrysa It is actually very normal how she's still a bit childish since she never really had the chance to be a child. She's not brainwashed because she got the red stuff in her face. So there you have it, she's a great wrtitten character and they chose the perfect actress to bring her to life.

i honestly thought i was gonna hate her character but who was i kidding its florence pugh, yelena was the highlight of the movie *edit* - Ok, first of all, i've never gotten 1.5 likes on a post within, like, 24 hrs, so thanks, i suppose? secondly, i feel like i should explain, i didn't mean that i thought i'd _despise_ her character from the trailers, but i thought they were going to make her a conceited, too cocky, semi comic relief with no personality character. Admittedly I didn't watch that many trailers, only two, and i may have speculated a bit much because i was very anxious for the film. I mean, i've been waiting for a solo widow movie since i was twelve! That was over a decade ago. But i do love ms. Pugh's films and her acting, so yeah. Just to reiterate, yelena was so good, i stan 100%, can't wait for her future mcu endeavours.

One of them is Villanelle, a Russian assassin with a similar accent and with pretty similar personality when it comes to jokes and being childish. She's fun to watch, though her jokes can get more mean-spirited compared to Yelena. Florence is in Little Women and Midsommar though, but if you're a fan you've seen those probably.

Interesting fact: the scene where she mocks Natasha's "pose" was made up on set. Florence had basically come to an epiphany about how stupid it is and started taking the mick out of Scarlett. One of the writers was on set and overheard it all, and found it so funny that he(?) Wrote it into the film.

Not really an epiphany. Somebody told her that these superhero landings wouldn't work in real life, and would break someone's bones, so when she went on set she started asking Scarlet if she knew about it and gave her shit about it (in a fun way). The director heard it and decided to add it to the movie.

Florence Pugh is to Black Widow what Michael Pena is to Ant-Man: scene stealer extraordinaire.

She was easily the best part of the movie. I wasn’t much interested in the future of the MCU…but now I am. Just for Yelena.

@@shaimazaffar4726 The crime here is that it took fifteen years to get Nat her own movie, and that it was made after the character was dead and her fate sealed. This movie isn’t about Nat - not really. It was about passing the torch. About introducing a character that will take her mantle. I love Nat, I hate that they killed her (though it was one hell of a way to go, she cleared her ledger) but I am stoked that they managed to come up with a portrayal of a character that can fill her shoes.

@@shaimazaffar4726 Nat. Is. Dead. If they had just made the movie years ago, it would be a Nat movie. But because it happened after Nat was dead, they couldn't just make a Nat movie. It would be pointless. we already know how it ends. I hate to say it, Nat is one of my favorites. But it's the truth. This movie from the get go, was always about passing the torch. It was always going to be about Yelena. This movie delivered where it mattered in regards to Nat - showing us something we haven't gotten to see before. A lot of the scenes where Yelena is shining is also casting light on Nat - we get to see her be the big sister, to see the less confident, less sure side of her - her humanity. What did you want? a mindless action flick where Nat was running around being a solo badass? We got that in every movie she's been in. She's a badass. we already know that. She's also a dead badass who sacrificed herself to save the universe. That movie would have been sentimental sure, but it wouldn't have served a purpose in the MCU. it'd be an outlier.

@@ml0723 everything you said was good but the fact that yelena got her solo movie in the first movie is what is outrageous..she had the limelight all to her self..which I wouldn't have mind if it was after this movie but to get a movie before the og one is the issue

she’s so eastern european, the dry wit is what everyone loves

She plays Russian superbly. And it's not just the accent. Intonation, behavior, a mixture of sarcasm and innocence. Excellent. I think it's entirely the merit of the actress.

Funnier when you find out the "poser" joke was actually Florences way of teasing Scarlett and the writer liked it and included it in the script while they were already filming! Florence is brilliant.

I absolutely love this character and her sarcasm and humor fits so perfectly in the MCU, especially in contrast with a character like Natasha imo. I loved those sisterly little moments like the scene where she sarcastically asks if she should just duck and cover and Nat is all flustered for being called out like "My plan was to... drive us away" 😭 I loved how Yelena constantly called Nat's flaws like real family would. Same thing with the pose thing.

This movie actually explained Nat's American accent and the plot hole fell onto Yelena's. They're Russian sleeper agents, they're supposed to raised as Americans.

They called them just Widows. Black Widow is a name only given to Natasha to differentiate her from the rest. Cause shes is most dangerous and lethal

I think what makes the character special is that we know her childhood back story and saw how she grew up as a normal kid. And now we see that side of her meshed with the trained assassin side of her. It gives her complexity and makes her more human. If all we knew was that she was an assassin, then we'd feel less sympathy towards her, and would be perplexed by her moments of humanity. But because we see her whole story, we don't take her too seriously.... And she even adds to the humanity of her fake family who's really her real family. She was the innocents in the family when they were young. They all sorta knew it was fake, but she was the only one who believed it, and so she sorta was the glue for them and it shows in the film. Very powerful stuff.

LIKE SERIOUSLY THE ACTRESS IS ON POINT AND DID BETTER THAN GREAT! LIKE IF EVER SHE'S THE NEW BLACKWIDOW, I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THAT AT ALL. SHE'S VERY WELCOME LOL BUT I'LL DEFINITELY GONNA MISS SCARJO :((

Yelena, Red Guardian, Melina, Sylvie, Mobius, John Walker, Monica, Agatha. Most the new characters in this phase have been freaking awesome.

On one hand yes the Kang variant was doing what he did for the greater good, but on the other hand, he had been punning innocent timelines for millions of years including her own. That hatred just can't be forgotten, and hey on the brighter side what she did is giving us some crazy awesome stories to look forward to.
