In 1967 i saw yehudi menuhin perform the Bach Chaconne in the cloisters in NYC and it changed my life.

Menuhin plays Bach better then anyone, in a strict methodical but very musical way. He is never underrated!

Bach’s music is the gods music. No explanation is necessary!!

It's a shame, that Menuhin's play was visited by less than 50 thousand people(15/Oct/2013), but when Vanessa Mae played the same one, more than 2.5 millions (!) listened to her, who can hardly find a clear voice.

The reason he was visited by less than 50,000 people is because he can hardly play it. I'm surprised he mustered 50,000.

@@nickfish8345 Perhaps a better reason is that "popular ears" are more common than artistically fine ears. I even doubt those million people listen; the eyes are certainly more dominant than the ears. Not to mention the latter's appearance.

@@jamesmarshall4752 He peaked when he was about 18 and was at that point acknowledged as arguably the best in the world. Subsequently, on account of a technical flaw in his bowing which had become embedded and which he was never going to get rid of because of muscle memory, it was downhill all the way and he turned mostly to conducting and teaching. By the time he'd reached the age he was in this video, his playing was a mere shadow of what it had been. Tragic stuff. Try listening to the same piece played by the likes of Grumiaux from a while back, and any of the top violinists playing currently and you'll see the difference.

@@nickfish8345 His problem in his arm is what some would describe as shaking arms. Some think that this is from his life experiences such as the deaths of his dear friends and colleagues such as furtwangler as well as the impact the Second World War had on him and the fact he was a Jew living in those times. This technical problem was present throughout most of his life. Nonetheless, I prefer the later recordings he made because of their ‘un-perfectness’ as they almost feel more human to me and more fragile and vulnerable, which reflects the way he was in life. As he got older, his interpretation developed massively and you can tell that by listening to the later recordings which have more feel and care and thought behind them. From the simplest things like a fingering that changes the tone or the speed of the vibrato. These things he only realised and thought about and took care over in the later stages of life as he learned from teaching others and from reflecting on his own playing, making sure he was comfortable and really importantly, putting the music first which is a problem today as violinist don’t do that, they put themselves before the music. That is what makes Menuhin’s interpretation better (in my opinion) as he plays it how he thinks Bach would have liked it.

suena difícil de interpretar, pero no tiene ninguna nota del otro mundo, lo que si cuesta es acostumbrarse a los movimientos, de modo que la notas no lo hacen dificil de interpretar, pero se necesita mucha practica para poder llevar a cavo a la perfección la interpretación de esta pieza. c c tienes toda la razón, son sólo combinaciones de 7 notas con algunos bemoles y sostenidos que con un poco de práctica y unos buenos golpes de Arcos Unidos a una digitacion precisa te permitirán tocar esta obra después de unos 90 años de práctica de la forma como lo hace yehudi.

It is not that bad, but it is a bad recording yes, there was some issues with recording due to all the bouncing in the place where this was recorded as with all greek inspired buildings, awsome acoustics for the person enjoying the concert , but awful for recordings. Many live opera concerts on KZread have the same issues. Voices and sounds so strong , bounce. Same goes for pretty much any and all recordings made in a church. There is however a version of this performance on Spotify that has been " rectified", although most will claim its fake bla bla.

Sorry but for me that's the worst playing from Menuhin i heard.

Simon Binovsky I agree. He seems to tramps over the notes without any feeling whatsoever. And to make matters worse his rhythm and tempo are unsteady. I much prefer Vanessa Mae's version

I am thankful that he allowed for this interpretation to be recorded. He is very old here and there is something else than perfection in the sound production that one young violinist or listener should expect. You people have/had no grandparents around you?

@@roman14032 Old people loose a lot of things, wait till you will be at his age! But if you do get there, you may hope to arrive a reach and generous individual in your heart....But if you have such a shortness of outlook on people (as you have now), I am afraid that you are close to loosing your interior wealth. Watch a grandma cook, or clean or dress, and you will see that she doesn’t do things well anymore but there’s an undeniable beauty coming out of her, and there is a wisdom that white hair has despite all the weaknesses. Eugenists don’t see that beauty thus they see only that old people “loose it” and count them as undesirable....
