Yebba isn't singing in this performance. She's telling a story and she's making everyone in the audience part of that story. Every technique she used was exact and purposeful with the aim to make you feel. Make no mistake, this performance is as much about being technical as driving a car is to sitting in a seat.

You can't sing that song like she did without knowing someone hurt her badly. She felt every word of that song in her soul. She had me crying.

In black churches, lifting our eyes to heaven and crying out in song is a prayer - it’s an understanding things are in Gods hands - the wailing with her head lifted - she learned that in black church. She is, hands down, my favorite singing storyteller in the last 10 years. She’s magic.

This was my first time hearing this artist. Had not heard of her before. Nice voice with great control. I like how her stage name is her real name spelled backwards. Clever. Lol

This is a song of sorrow ……there is a level of loss , pain and anguish that is STRAIGHT out of the BLACK CHURCH ……and these songs and the wailing of slaves coming from the fields . the way YEBBA learned to sing you hear ALL THAT …..you don’t just hear church ….you hear BLACK CHURCH!!!! I also hear Jon Michell and Dolly Parton in her storytelling . I can hear her world music influences as well …..this woman has pulled EVERYTHING at her disposal to to THIS!!!! And a lot of it is just a GIFT!!!!! OH!! I can also hear her BLUED influences in the wailing ) I.e Bessie Smith with Jazmine Sullivan runs (which needs their OWN grammy)

I’ve been looking forward to this one. ❤️ Her performance of this song, it just rips your heart out. She’s doing so many things vocally it’s hard to keep up! She seems to make just the right choices to convey all the feelings. Beautiful, emotional rollercoaster. That was a lot to analyze! Thank you for helping us understand what’s she’s doing. 😊

i have seen many reaction of this and voice teacher, vocal coach´s and other speaking of technik´s and her tone´s, but no one seems to notice it, of course she has wailing tones, the story and the emotions she puts into it (heartache and anger) say it, what does a lovesick person do, cry, she has the sobs, the sighs, the whimpering, the bitter gasp and the pressed exhalation, transformed into tones of their singing. In other words "she cries the song in sorrow and rage" and the emotions she puts into it makes it so effective, remember and watch the performance again, you'll realize how impressive the song and her singing really is

One of my absolute favorite songs to see people react to. Would be really interesting to follow it up with her recent song Boomerang, which is a complete contrast emotionally. A suggestion: Shea Diamond. She's not well known, but has an amazing, rich voice. (If you decide not to react to her, just check out her music. I Am Her is a great first song.)

this is why I don't like to watch the reactions of vocal coaches it's as if they miss the emotions the meaning of the song they react without the humanity everything has to be dissected. wouldn't want to go through life that way you would miss so much! sorry but I need more of a human reaction if you will

You complain about the technique/ song being "dissected" yet you actively sought out a VOCAL COACH reaction, which you knew would absolutely involve "dissecting" the singer's techniques and the song. Make it makes sense. She also talked about how well the singer portrayed emotions over and over and over so.....
