    Should never have been allowed to get that bad. There should have been a maintenance program For the City’s most iconic and recognisable structure.

    As a fiercely proud Geordie,I am appalled to see this beautiful bridge in such a bad state ,it should never of been allowed to get in such a state.But the evil that is the Tory party is squarely to blame our region is probably the most neglected area in England, however we are a strong proud race up here and,as my gran would of said we may be lying doon but we're not deid yet!!! So onwards and upwards 🎉.Thank you Eddie love your channel keep up the great work.😊

    As a truck driver from Yorkshire I use the Tyne Bridge every week . The bridge has been looking decidedly shabby for the last few years , this is no way to treat such a monument ....and it is a monument to the North East absolutely . It will be a nuisance but , wow it will be worth it when its done . Stay safe all of you working on it 😊.

    Great video, Eddy! Giving the Tyne Bridge a good seeing to was never going to be a job that lasted a few months so I feel for those that are going to be caught up in the upheaval for the next few years. Will it get more folks onto the Metro, I wonder? And I echo the other comments on here about how the bridge has been allowed to get into this condition in the first place. I bet they aren't as negligent in Sydney!

Bit like yourself Eddy, travelling round the world, dropping the lads off on the way - travelling vouchers were a god send back in the day! The Quayside as is, was derelict - funny how times change! It’s also utter shite that they’ve let it become a kittiwake sanctuary. They should be doon the coast. Also the bird shit from them and the pigeons contributes towards the rot

    The Forth Railway Bridge which crosses the river Forth in Scotland is a World heritage and my most fav bridge in the World it was blasted down to the bare bones because was in need of re-painting and checked under sea water the basements of the bridge which were said to be ok Them days they sprayed with a special type epoxy paint from one side , part by part to the other , this whilst under cover from the elements ..This paint said to last for 40 yrs was done few yrs back now , i recall taking pics of it whilst they were working on it whilst crossing the Forth road bridge Now also have the Queensferry crossing bridge across from one another the three bridges But none come remotely close to Forth Railway Bridge as said is a World heritage site .

    I walk by the Tyne bridge regularly and it is in desperate need of a decent paint job. It had one a few years ago but it never lasts. I think it’s the pollution from the cars. If only there was a paint that would last a century. The Tyne Bridge is if not the icon of the North East and to see it looking shoddy is embarrassing.

    "It was opened on the 10th of October 1928 by King George V and HIS LASS Queen Mary"! Brilliant! Sheer brilliant! I don't know about my situation. Two days from now on April 11 it will be the final 100 days until I fly to Spain with "my lass". On July 19 I will be using the bridge to go the airport for the overnight stay at the Hilton (hopefully). I should be over around 4:45ish. I am unsure as to the volume of traffic at that time. Can anyone help me give an estimation of what to expect of the volume of traffic northbound at that time? Will it be heavy or light? I am not bothered by how many lanes are open. Only by how much traffic I can expect to be a part of.

    The high level bridge should be re-opened to cars and vans while the repairs are taking place,it would relieve a lot of the coming traffic congestion

  • @TynesideLife

    @TynesideLife

    3 ай бұрын

    I’m sure if it was that simple they would have done it. The High Level is a single lane carriageway that is in operation for buses and to allow cars to travel over would obviously cause a significant disruption to the public transport infrastructure, the very thing the government is trying to encourage during the refurbishment

    @@TynesideLife Yes,i realise it would take a bit of planning and organisation considering that the gateshead side at Oakwellgate is now closed to everything but buses sand cyclists,but the bridge is physically wide enough for two way traffic and it managed okay for many decades beore the major refurbishment of the 2000's,i would have thought that the changes to the bridge and approach roads made since then are not irreversable

    @gntdriver2840 the reversal of the current transport system and infrastructure on both sides of the bridge, which has only recently been completed and the disruption to the flow of buses over the bridge is clearly not a feasible plan and an added expense to the public purse that is just not available mate. @@TynesideLife You are right of course ,it would all come down to money in the end. Also such a plan would heavily involve both Newcastle and Gateshead councils who are two of the most anti-motorist organisations in the country,and motorists should not expect any favours from them
